Characterization of Microstructure, Strength, and Toughness of Dissimilar Weldments of Inconel 625 and Duplex Stainless Steel SAF 2205

The dissimilar combinations of Inconel 625 and duplex stainless steel SAF 2205 obtained from manual GTA welding process employing Er2209 and ErNi CrMo-3 filler metals have been investigated. Formation of secondary phases at the HAZ of Inconel 625 and grain coarsening at the HAZ of SAF 2205 were witnessed while using these filler wires. The average hardness of Er2209 weldments was found to be greater than ErNi CrMo-3 weld. Tensile fracture was observed at the weld zones for both the fillers. Impact test trials showed brittle mode of fracture on employing Er2209 filler and mixed（ductile–brittle） mode of fracture while using ErNi CrMo-3 filler. Further optical microscopy and SEM/EDS analysis were carried out across the weldments to investigate the structure–property relationships.

Distribution of Pill Millipedes (Arthrosphaera) and Associated Soil Fauna in the Western Ghats and West Coast of India

Seven sampling sites in each of three biomes (Western Ghats, foothills of Western Ghats and west coast) of south- western India were investigated to study the distribution, abundance and ecology of pill millipedes (Arthrosphaera) and associated fauna in relation to edaphic features. Abundance and biomass of Arthrosphaera and other millipedes were the highest in Western Ghats, while earthworms were in foothills. Arthrosphaera magna and Arthrosphaera spp. were common in Western Ghats and foothills respectively, while no Arthrosphaera were found in the west coast. None of the sampling sites consisted of more than one species of Arthrosphaera. Biomass of Arthrosphaera, other millipedes and earthworms significantly differed in Western Ghats (P = 9.48 × 10-7) and foothills (P = 1.35 × 10-8), as did the biomass of species of Arthrosphaera (P = 2.76 × 10-7) between Western Ghats and foothills. Correlation analysis revealed that biomass of Arthrosphaera was significantly (P = 0.01, r = 0.45) correlated with soil organic carbon rather than other edaphic fea- tures (pH, phosphate, calcium and magnesium). Distribution pattern, abundance, biomass and ecology of Arthrosphaera of Western Ghats in relation to soil qualities were compared with millipedes of other regions of the world.

Endophytic fungi of wild legume Sesbania bispinosa in coastal sand dunes and mangroves of the Southwest coast of India

Evaluation of 450 surface sterilized tissue segments of a seasonal wild legume, Sesbania bispinosa （Jacq.）, of coastal sand dunes and mangroves of southwest India yielded 546 isolates comprising 39 endophytic fungi with six dominant taxa （Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Cladosporium tenuissimum, Fusarium moniliforme, Penicillium chrysogenum and morpho sp. 1）. A consortium of saprophytic, pathogenic and toxigenic fungi exists as endophytes in S. bispinosa. Number of segments colonized, number of isolates obtained, species richness and diversity were higher in S. bispinosa in mangroves compared to coastal sand dunes. Seeds yielded more fungal isolates, but species richness and diversity were low. In spite of low fungal colonization in root segments, the diversity was high. Up to 30-40 % endophytic fungi of S. bispinosa differed between coastal sand dunes and mangroves revealing partial host- and habitat-specificity. As S. bispi- nosa is extensively used as green manure and forage in southwest India, further studies especially on the bioactive compounds of its endophytic fungi might broaden its range of uses. In addition to conventional morphologicaltechniques, molecular tools would provide precise insight on the endophytic fungi of coastal sand dunes and mangroves.

Identifying the optimal HVOF spray parameters to attain minimum porosity and maximum hardness in iron based amorphous metallic coatings

Flow based Erosion e corrosion problems are very common in fluid handling equipments such as propellers, impellers, pumps in warships, submarine. Though there are many coating materials available to combat erosionecorrosion damage in the above components, iron based amorphous coatings are considered to be more effective to combat erosionecorrosion problems. High velocity oxy-fuel(HVOF)spray process is considered to be a better process to coat the iron based amorphous powders. In this investigation, iron based amorphous metallic coating was developed on 316 stainless steel substrate using HVOF spray technique. Empirical relationships were developed to predict the porosity and micro hardness of iron based amorphous coating incorporating HVOF spray parameters such as oxygen flow rate, fuel flow rate, powder feed rate, carrier gas flow rate, and spray distance. response surface methodology(rSM) was used to identify the optimal HVOF spray parameters to attain coating with minimum porosity and maximum hardness.

Aquatic hyphomycetes in the lateritic cave streams of Southwestern India

For the first time,assemblage and diversity of aquatic hyphomycetes were investigated in four lateritic cave streams of the southwest coast of *** study includes physicochemical features of cave habitats and stream *** richness,diversity and equitability of aquatic hyphomycetes in foam,water,leaf litter and woody litter(bark and cambium)have been *** cave streams yielded up to 21 species of aquatic hyphomycetes,which is comparable to the population in nearby *** leaf litter of cave streams consist of highest number of species,while it was the lowest in the foam samples(15 vs.7 spp.).Cave stream water,bark and cambium consist of 14,11 and 9 species,***’s and Shannon’s diversities were the highest in water samples,while the Pielou’s equitability was highest in foam *** species richness as well as the core-group(highly frequent)aquatic hyphomycetes are comparable with nearby *** megalospora,Anguillospora angulata,***,Condylospora spumigena,Ingoldiella fibulata and Trinacrium subtile were the new records to the coastal region of southwest India.

Effect of dietary incorporation of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids rich oil sources on fatty acid profile, keeping quality and sensory attributes of broiler chicken meat

The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of dietary replacement of commonly used vegetable oil(sunflower oil, SFO) with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA) rich oil sources on broiler chicken performance, carcass yield, meat fatty acid composition, keeping quality and sensory attributes of meat. In the current experiment, 300 day-old krishibro broiler chicks were randomly distributed to 5 dietary groups(50 replicates with 6 chicks in each) prepared by replacing SFO(2% and 3% of diet during starter and finisher periods, respectively) with n-3 PUFA rich soybean oil(SO), mustard oil(MO), linseed oil(LO) or fish oil(FO) on weight basis. Variation in oil sources had no influence(P > 0.05) on performance and carcass yield. Supplementation of MO, LO or FO significantly(P reased the n-3 PUFA, lowered the n-6 PUFA deposition and n-6:n-3 ratio in breast and thigh without affecting the organoleptic characters(appearance, flavour, juiciness, tenderness and overall acceptability) of ***, thiobarbituric acid reacting substances concentration in meat was increased(P red with SFO. It is concluded that, dietary incorporation of MO, LO or FO at 2% and 3% levels during starter and finisher phase can enrich broiler chicken meat with n-3 PUFA without affecting the bird's performance and sensory characters of meat.

Effect of dual and new generation wide-base tire assembly on inverted pavements

The conventional flexible pavements have been constructed such that the stiffness of the layer reduces with *** crust thickness becomes significantly high for heavy traffic corridors resulting in the consumption of large quantities of construction materials and also increasing environmental *** pavements with the aggregate interlayer(AIL)or stress absorbing membrane interlayer(SAMI)are considered to be one of the alternatives for thick conventional flexible pavements for heavy traffic *** AIL or SAMI is placed between a stiff cement-treated base and asphalt concrete layer to function as crack relief *** change in the composition alters the behaviour of inverted pavements compared to the conventional flexible *** the other hand,wide-base tires are being increasingly preferred by trucking industries due to increased fuel economy and cargo ***,the effect of wide-base tires on the performance of inverted pavements is yet to be *** this study,the 3D finite element(FE)models of inverted pavements considering different crack relief layers were developed,and load from dual-wheel and wide-base tires were *** stress-strain evolution in the various layers of inverted pavements was investigated and discussed in this *** results indicated the higher stress and strains due to wide base tires compared to the dual-wheel ***,pavement with SAMI was found to result in lower stress and strains in the asphalt concrete layer compared to AIL pavements.
