Associations of Mental and Behavioral Problems among Children Exposed to Intimate Partner Violence Previously and Visits with Their Fathers Who Perpetrated the Violence

Back.round: Intimate partner violence has long-term and negative effects on the health of mothers and children worldwide. This study aimed to identify the mental and behavioral effects of past exposure to intimate partner violence among children and examine their associations with the children’s visits with their fathers who perpetrated the intimate partner violence. Methods: A cross-sectional study of women who had been abused by their intimate partners and had one or more children aged 4 - 18 years old was conducted from March 2015 to December 2016. Questionnaires were used to collect (1) demographic data about the mothers and children, (2) information about the children’s visits with the mother’s former partner (i.e., father), and (3) psychological data using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Child Behavior Check.ist/4 - 18. Results: The average scores and rates of internalizing, externalizing, and total problems among the children who had been exposed to intimate partner violence were: 10.8 (SD = 10.4), 26 (51.0%);9.0 (SD = 9.0), 14 (27.5%);and 26.3 (SD = 21.5), 15 (29.4%), respectively. Children’s visits with fathers who were IPV perpetrators were significantly associated with the internalizing (AOR = 12.6, β = 0.56;p β = 0.48;p Conclusion: Attention should focus on traumatized children exposed to intimate partner violence, and thorough and cautious assessments and decisions regarding visits with their fathers who are IPV perpetrators are essential to safeguard and improve their mental and behavioral health.

Target Detection Improvement in Distance Measurement System Using Two Rotatable Cameras for FPSO

This paper describes target detection improvement in a distance measurement system using two rotatable cameras for floating production, storage and offloading （FPSO） facilities. The authors have developed a distance measurement system that consists of two rotatable cameras on a ship and a target on a wharf for the automatic berthing of ships. This system measures a distance by detecting and track.ng the target on the wharf using the two rotatable cameras on the ship. Our goal is to apply this distance measurement system to an automatic relative positioning system for a ship at an FPSO facility. In this application, the shape of the target in the images captured by the cameras is deformed by their relative positions and attitudes, which increases the measurement errors. To solve this problem, we propose a target detection method that improves the target deformations. The proposed target detection method is able to detect the deformed targets using a target database that is created by image conversion with the perspective projection of a reference target. By using the proposed target detection method, the distance measurement error is decreased. Experimental results on a miniature scale and in an indoor environment confirmed that the measurement error of the relative distance is decreased by using the proposed target detection method.

Synchronous Changes of Nitrogen and Carbon Isotopic Ratios and Nannoplank.on Assemblage in Marine Sediments off Peru at 250 k.: A Role of Phytoplank.on in Primary Ocean Productivity

We report the mechanism controlling changes of δ15Norg and δ13Corg values of marine organic matter, based on the change of calcareous nannoplank.on assemblage during the last 500,000 years in core samples from ODP Hole 846B off Peru in the equatorial Pacific Ocean. The δ15Norg values fluctuate in a range from 2.1‰ to 6.7‰, giving an abrupt increase since about 250 k. with the averages of 3.8‰ and 5.0‰ during the older and younger periods, respectively. The δ13Corg values change in a range from ?23.5‰ to ?20.1‰ in an inverse correlation with δ15Norg values, describing an increase of average values at 250 k. as well as those of δ15Norg values. The total organic carbon content also shows averages of 0.6% and 0.3% during the younger and older periods, respectively. The numerical increase of deep dwelling species (Florisphaera profunda) of calcareous nannoplank.on during the younger period in comparison with the older period indicates that these chemical and isotopic jumps synchronized with nannoplank.on assemblage changes in marine sediments are caused by activity of deep dwellers in photic zone more stratified by an abrupt decline of trade wind strength on this sea area since about 250 k.. A study coupling δ15Norg and δ13Corg values and nannoplank.on assemblage can be a useful method for evaluating the extent of stratification of photic zone and the roles of surface and deep dwellers of phytoplank.on in producing primary organic matter.

Depressive mood, bonding failure, and abusive parenting among mothers with three-month-old babies in a Japanese community

Objective: To investigate the relationships between depressive mood, bonding failure, and abusive parenting. Method: We distributed questionnaires to 1198 mothers attending a three-month postnatal health check.up in rural areas in Japan. The questionnaires assessed these three variables along with demographics. We evaluated the causal relationships by comparing different structural equation models to the data. Results: Although all the models fit the data well, the best Ak.ik. Information Criterion was obtained from a model where both depressive mood and bonding failure predict abusive parenting, but depressive mood and bonding failure do not predict each other directly. The determinant coefficient of child abuse in the final model was 0.13. Discussion: We found depressive mood and bonding failure during postpartum period impacted negatively on mother’s parenting behaviour. Because only 13% of the variance of abusive parenting was explainable by this model, further study should be needed to identify other risk.factors of child abuse. Similarly, midwives and public health nurse in community should pay attention to not only depression but also bonding failure to prevent child abuse.

Mesozoic Fangcheng basalts from the North China Craton contain many clinopyroxene xenocrysts and pyroxenite xenoliths,which provide important information about melt circulation and crust-mantle interaction in the evolution of the sub-continental lithosphere beneath the *** the xenocrysts show textural and chemical *** zoning is mostly simple(simply-zoned),but some show complex patterns(complexly-zoned).In-situ major and trace element analyses suggest that all the simply-zoned xenocrysts may have been disaggregated from pyroxenite veins at mantle *** zoning is interpreted to result from chemical exchange with the host magma after their *** complexly-zoned xenocrysts record a complicated history of the lithospheric evolution:their cores could preserve information of high-temperature granulite-facies metamorphism in the lower crust and their intermediary zones might record metamorphic overgrowth in the mantle spinel-facies stability ***,the cores of the complexly-zoned xenocrysts have probably been derived from the Archean lower crust or newly-accreted lower crust and the intermediary zones could be formed through crust-mantle *** the pyroxenite xenoliths are cumulates and were crystallized from the LREE enriched melts at mantle depth or crust-mantle transitional *** the clinopyroxene xenocrysts and pyroxenite xenoliths provide evidence for the existence of considerable crust-mantle interaction and melt circulation in the lithospheric mantle,which led to rapid lithospheric enrichment.

Gastrectomy for patients with gastric cancer and non-uremic renal failure

AIM： To investigate the safety and outcome of gastrectomy for patients with gastric cancer and nonuremic renal failure （NURF）.METHODS： One hundred forty-seven patients who underwent gastrectomy for carcinoma were retrospectively divided into two groups： a group with Ccr values of ≥ 50 mL/min （Group 1, n = 110）, and one with Ccr values of ≥ 20 to 〈 50 mL/min （Group 2, n = 37）. Preoperative patient characteristics, intraoperative parameters （including operation time and blood loss）, and postoperative management and complications were evaluated.RESULTS： There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in operation time （297.9 rnin vs 272.6 rnin, P = 0.137） or blood loss （435 rnL vs 428 rnL, P = 0.078）. The differences in postoperative complications and hospital stay between the groups were not statistically significant. None of the patients in Group 2 required dialysis therapy, and no patients died due to gastrectorny or gastrectorny-related causes. The overall 4-year survival rates in Groups 1 and 2 were 86.6% and 81.8%, respectively （P = 0.48）, and the corresponding 4-year disease-free survival rates for stage I, I, and Ⅲ patients were 88.7% and 83.5%, respectively （P = 0.65）.CONCLUSION： Gastrectomy can be performed as safely in patients with NURF similar to patients with normal renal function.

eGFR is a reliable preoperative renal function parameter in patients with gastric cancer

AIM: To evaluate the validity of the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) as a preoperative renal function parameter in patients with gastric cancer. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted in 147 patients with gastric cancer. Preoperative creatinine clearance (Ccr), eGFR, and preand postoperative serum creatinine (sCr) data were examined. Preoperative Ccr and eGFR were then compared for their reliability in predicting postoperative renal dysfunction. RESULTS: Among 110 patients with normal preoperative Ccr values, 7 (6.3%) had abnormal postoperative sCr values, and among 112 patients with normal preoperative eGFR values, postoperative sCr was abnormal in 5 (4.5%) (P = 0.53). Among 37 patients with abnormal preoperative Ccr values, 30 (81.1%) had normal postoperative sCr values, and of 35 patients with abnormal preoperative eGFR values, postoperative sCr was normal in 25 (71.4%) (P = 0.34). PreoperativeCcr was signifi cantly correlated with eGFR (r = 0.514), and postoperative sCr was significantly correlated with preoperative Ccr (r = -0.334) and eGFR (r = -0.02). CONCLUSION: Preoperative eGFR is as effective as Ccr for predicting postoperative renal dysfunction. eGFR should therefore be used as an indicator of preoperative renal function in place of Ccr since it is a cheaper and easier to perform test.
