We demonstrate an adjustable pure dispersion slope compensating-module based on strain-chirped fiber Bragg gratings. The center wavelength of the module is preserved while the pure dispersion slope is tuned.

CE （=%C＋（1/3）x（%Si）） does not suit experiment results in many cases. In this work. the effect of alloy elements on primary crystal temperature was measured and the relationship between primary crystal temperature （Tc） and carbon equivalent （CEL） was investigated. The results show that Tc （Celsius degree） = 1650-110 × （%C） -25 × （%Si）＋3 × （%Mn） -35 × （%P） -71 × （%5）-2 × （%Ni） -7 × （%Cr）; CEL=%C ＋ 0.23×（%Si）-0.03× （%Mn）＋0.32×（%P）＋0.64×（%S）＋0.02×（%Ni）＋0.06×（%Cr）. That is, in hypo eutectic composition, carbon equivalent should be calculated with CEL=%C＋ 0.23×（%Si）, not with CE=%C＋（1/3） x（%Si）.

This paper tries to find interaction rules between members and self-reform rules of members in some scientific research laboratories at a graduate school. The candidate of rules are extracted from the personality description sentences about factors： extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness in the big five theory of personality psychology. In this paper, interaction and self-reform rules are not described by personalities themselves; instead, they are described by corresponding phenomena： activity, empathy, persistence, autonomy, and analytical ability which appear in the behavior side. Each member＇s initial value is determined from the main 5-factor personality investigation to the member, and the target value is given by the member＇s self-declaration. The rule selection is carried out by the genetic algorithm, where a sigmoid function is introduced in the renewal algorithm of the value, whereby a difficulty of setting the renewal parameters is avoided. An analysis is added about the obtained rules, and the validity of this approach and the subjects for future study are discussed. Finally, consideration is extended to the effect of environment on the behavior of members to reinforce the set of rules.

The detailed groundwater flow and water chemistry to illustrate landscape structure of the infertile peatless mire by using piezometers and groundwater wells were measured. The instruments were installed in lines through a small spring-fed wetland underlying little peat from the hillslope to the valley bottom in southwestern Japan. Flow net and EC data clearly indicated that the wetland was situated in a high-EC groundwater upspring area. The low-productivity graminous vegetation was related with four hydrological factors such as: (1) high water level; (2) low-EC(k.y upward hydraulic gradient; and (4) overflowing of negatively pressured groundwater. In other words, the “old or deep groundwater” constructed the foundation of slope-wetland, and maintained the high groundwater level. In contrast, overflowing “youthful groundwater” is supplied from head of slope-wetland preferentially through the shallow substratum. The plant communities of the peatless mire in southwestern Japan are similar to those of raised bog in northern cool temperate Japan. There have been some reports verifying that the underlying mineral substrata of such wetlands were quartzile rock. such as granite, rhyolite, chart and well-leached sand. Results showed (1) low cation availability affects the water acidity; (2) upward seepage of high-EC groundwater composed the foundation of the investigated peatless mire; and (3) the poor mineral condition seems to play a similar role to northern ombrotrophic(rain-fed) condition.

Since the automobile turbochargers are installed in an engine compartment with limited space, the ducts upstream of the turbocharger compressor may be curved in a complex manner. In the present paper, the effect of a curved duct upstream on performance of small centrifugal compressors for automobile turbochargers is discussed. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of a turbocharger compressor validated for the compressor model with the straight pipe applied to the compressor with the curved pipe are executed, and the deterioration of the performance for the curved pipe is confirmed. It is also found that the deterioration of compressor performance is caused by the interaction of the secondary flow and the impeller.

In this paper, a generalized three-dimensional(3D) scattering channel model for macrocellular land mobile environments is considered. This model simultaneously describes angular arrival of multi-path signals in the azimuth and elevation planes in an environment where uniformly distributed scatterers are assumed to be present in hemispheroids around the base station(BS) and mobile station(MS). Using this channel model, we first derive the closed-form expression for the joint and marginal probability density functions of the angle-of-arrival and time-of-arrival measured at the BS and the MS corresponding to the azimuth and elevation angles. Next, we derive an expression for the Doppler spectral distribution caused by motion of the MSs. Furthermore, we analyze the performance of multiple-input multiple-output antenna systems numerically. The results show that the proposed 3D scattering channel model performs better than previously proposed two-dimensional(2D) models for indoor and outdoor environments. We compare the results with previous scattering channel models and measurement results to validate the generalizability of our model.

A three-dimensional （3D） Von Mises Fisher （VMF） distribution model was derived in multiple-input and multiple-output （MIMO） antenna communication environment. The azimuth of arrival and elevation of arrival are distributed for VMF distribution instead of the uniform or other traditional distributions. In particular the MIMO uniform Y-shaped array （UYA） and the uniform circular array （UCA） antenna topology are considered at mobile station and base station. The developed spatial fading correlation of the VMF model is determined by parameters of the concentration parameter, antenna spacing, mean azimuth of arrival, mean elevation of arrival. Using the channel model, the effects of the concentration parameter and the mean elevation angle on the capacity of MIMO antenna systems was analyzed. It is shown that the mean elevation of arrival must be tak.n into account in 3D MIMO communication environment.

Map-based control has the advantage of a simple control structure. However, in the case of a complex plant, calibrating the map is difficult. Calibration methodology using plant model is increasing in engine calibration industries. However, the models are for steady-state operation and cannot simulate at transient operation well. This study introduces the dynamic empirical model and applies the transient corrective function of an electronic control unit to simulate more realistic behavior. The optimization problem for calibrating maps of diesel engines is constructed, and the formulation of cost function and constraints is discussed. Consequently, the proposed calibration scheme can find an optimal map in satisfied ***, the optimized maps are validated using mass production diesel engines.

A surface-hardening treatment for AZ31 magnesium alloy using an atmospheric-pressure plasma jet(APPJ)at room temperature was *** is a potential engineering material because it is lightweight;however,magnesium alloys are difficult to heat-treat because of their low flaming *** alloy specimens were irradiated with a localized atmospheric-pressure plasma jet generated by dielectric-barrier discharge for 180 s in *** APPJ excited oxygen and nitrogen molecules in the ambient air,resulting in the formation of an oxynitrided layer;oxygen and nitrogen diffusion layer,on the surface of the magnesium *** hardness and elemental distribution for the treated surface were *** top surface of the APPJ-treated magnesium alloy achieved a maximum hardness of 108 HV,which was~1.7 times greater than that of the untreated *** analysis using an electron-probe microanalyzer revealed strong oxygen and nitrogen signals corresponding to the hardened region of the magnesium alloy,meaning that the hardness increased as a result of the formation of the oxynitrided *** proposed APPJ treatment is a promising approach for locally hardening magnesium alloys without using a heat treatment.
