Induc.d mutation in plant improvement has been used in several c.ops to generate new sourc.s of genetic.variations. A study was c.nduc.ed to determine the effec. of different doses of gamma irradiation on different morpho-agronomic.c.arac.eristic.. Agronomic.traits that were analyzed inc.uded: grain yield, number of pods/plant, number of seeds/plant and weight of 100 seeds and numbers of days to 50% flowering. Morphometric.c.arac.erisation of the desc.iptive data inc.uded plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves/plant, leaflet length, leaflet width and number of ramific.tion/ plant. Groundnut seeds were treated with various doses of gamma rays (100, 200, 400 and 600 Gy). Among the various dose treatments, gamma rays treatment at 100 Gy resulted in a higher inc.ease of grain yield and other morpho-agronomic.parameters espec.ally for the JL24 variety. In fac. the gamma irradiation at 100 Gy inc.eased signific.ntly grain yield by 14% for JL24, and 4 % for JL12. The number of pods per plant was inc.eased by 2% for JL12 and 37% for JL24. For the number of seeds per plant, there was a signific.nt inc.ease of 8% for JL12, and 62% for JL24 at 100 Gy. A similar trend was observed for the JL24 at 200 Gy dose. Higher doses of gamma rays (400 and 600 Gy) reduc.d signific.ntly plant growth and grain yield. The usefulness of the mutants identified in a groundnut breeding program is disc.ssed.

Groundnut leaf spot is one of the important fac.ors limiting groundnut produc.ivity in Afric. partic.larly in the Democ.atic.Republic.of c.ngo (DR c.ngo). Early and late leaf spot disease of groundnut c.used by c.rc.spora arac.idic.la Hori and c.rc.sporidium personatum (Berk.& c.rt.) Deighton, respec.ively, c.n c.use c.nsiderable yield losses without fungic.de management. The main objec.ives of this researc. were to analyze plant and disease developmental c.c.es. Signific.nt differenc.s were observed among the groundnut varieties evaluated for resistanc. to the leaf spot disease. The results show that plant development c.c.e c.n be divided into three developmental stages. A first stage c.arac.erized by a low produc.ion of leaves, a sec.nd stage with a signific.nt leaf development and finally a third stage with a reduc.ion of leaves. Interestingly, the leaf spot disease c.c.e was also divided in three stages. The disease stage c.arac.erized by the highest level of symptom expression was not assoc.ated with the plant phase with the highest emerged leaves. Disease symptoms reac.ed the highest pic.0}only after the phase of intense leaf development. The molec.lar analysis revealed that all the groundnut varieties analyzed were genetic.lly c.osely related even though they showed different reac.ions to the leaf spot disease.

Mutation breeding in c.op plants is an effec.ive approac. in improvement of c.op having narrow genetic.base suc. as soybean. The main objec.ive of the present study is to determine the effec. of different doses of gamma irradiation on different morpho-agronomic.c.arac.eristic.. Agronomic.traits that were analyzed inc.uded;grain yield, number of pods/plant, number of seeds/plant and weight of 100 seeds and numbers of days to 50% flowering. Morphometric.c.arac.erization of the desc.iptive data inc.uded plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves/plant, leaflet length, leaflet width, number of ramific.tions/plant, and pod length and width at 3 lodge stage. The results of the present study revealed that the two gamma irradiation doses used (0.2 k.y and 0.4 k.y) dec.eased signific.ntly most of agronomic.and morphologic.l traits evaluated in M1 populations. Different effec.s of 0.2 k.y and 0.4 k.y irradiation were observed in M2 populations with signific.nt inc.ease of grain yields and yield c.mponents in all the three soybean varieties. In general, a signific.nt dec.ease or no c.anges of morphologic.l traits were observed for the two irradiation doses in M2 populations. The levels of c.anges varied among varieties. Potential high yielding mutants were identified in progenies of irradiated seeds.

Greenhouse gases fluxes and soil thermal properties in a pasture in c.ntral Missouri

Fluc.uations of greenhouse gases emissions and soil properties oc.ur at short spatial and temporal sc.les, however, results are often reported for larger sc.les studies. We monitored c.2, c.4, and N2O fluxes and soil temperature （T）, thermal c.nduc.ivity （k., resistivity （R） and thermal diffusivity （D） from 2004 to 2006 in a pasture. Soil air samples for determination of c.2, c.4 and N2O c.nc.ntrations were c.llec.ed from static.and vented c.ambers and analyzed within two hours of c.llec.ion with a gas c.romatograph. T, k. R and D were measured in-situ using a k.2 probe. Soil samples were also tak.n for measurements of soil c.emic.l and physic.l properties. The pasture ac.ed as a sink.in 2004, a sourc. in 2005 and again a sink.of c.4 in 2006. c.2 and c.4 were highest, but N2O as well as T, k.and D were lowest in 2004. Only k.was c.rrelated with c.2 in 2004 while T c.rrelated with both N2O （r = 0.76, p = 0.0001） and c.2 （r = 0.88, p = 0.0001） in 2005. In 2006, all gases fluxes were signific.ntly c.rrelated with T, k.and R when the data for the entire year were c.nsidered. However, an in-depth examination of the data revealed the existenc. of month-to-month shifts, lac.0}of c.rrelation and differing spatial struc.ures. These results stress the need for further studies on the relationship between soil properties and gases fluxes. k.and R offer a promise as potential c.ntrolling fac.ors for greenhouse gases fluxes in this pasture.

Diffusivity Models and Greenhouse Gases Fluxes from a Forest,Pasture,Grassland and c.rn Field in Northern Hok.aido,Japan

Information on the most influential fac.ors determining gas flux from soils is needed in predic.ive models for greenhouse gases emissions. We c.nduc.ed an intensive soil and air sampling along a 2 000 m transec. extending from a forest, pasture, grassland and c.rn field in Shizunai, Hok.aido （Japan）, measured c.2, c.4, N20 and NO fluxes and c.lc.lated soil bulk.density （Pb）, air-filled porosity （fa） and total porosity （Ф）. Using diffusivity models based on either fa alone or on a c.mbination of fa and 4, we predic.ed two pore spac. indic.s： the relative gas diffusion c.effic.ent （Ds/Do） and the pore tortuosity fac.or （T）. The relationships between pore spac. indic.s （Ds/Do and T） and c.2, c.4, N2O and NO fluxes were also studied. Results showed that the grassland had the highest Pb while fa and Ф were the highest in the forest. c.2, c.4, N20 and NO fluxes were the highest in the grassland while N20 dominated in the c.rn field. Few c.rrelations existed between fa, Ф, Pb and gases fluxes while all models predic.ed that Ds/Do and T signific.ntly c.rrelated with c.2 and c.4 with c.rrelation c.effic.ent （r） ranging from 0.20 to 0.80. Overall, diffusivity models based on fa alone gave higher Ds/Do, lower τ, and higher R2 and better explained the relationship between pore spac. indic.s （Ds/Do and τ） and gases fluxes. Inc.usion of Ds/Do and τ in predic.ive models will improve our understanding of the dynamic. of greenhouse gas fluxes from soils. Ds/Do and τ c.n be easily obtained by measurements of soil air and water and existing diffusivity models.

Simulation of Growth and Leaf Area Index of Quality Protein Maize Varieties in the Southwestern Savannah Region of the DR-c.ngo

Logistic.and exponential approac.es have been used to simulate plant growth and leaf area index (LAI) in different growing c.nditions. The objec.ive of the present study was to develop and evaluate an approac. to simulate maize LAI that expresses k.y physiologic.l and phonologic.l proc.sses using a minimum entry requirement for Quality Protein maize (QPM) varieties grown in the southwestern region of the DR-c.ngo. Data for the development and testing of the model were c.llec.ed manually in experimental plots using a non-destruc.ive method. Simulation results revealed measurable variations between c.op seasons (long season A and short season B) and between the two varieties (Mudishi-1 and Mudishi-3) for height, number of visible leaves, and LAI. For both seasons, Mudishi-3, a short stature variety was assoc.ated with expec.ed stable yield based on simulation data. In general, the model simulated reliably all the parameters inc.uding the LAI. The LAI value for mudishi-1 was higher than that of Mudishi-3. There were signific.nt differenc.s among the model parameters (k. Ti, a, b, Tf) and between the two varieties. In all c.op c.nditions studied and for the two varieties, the senesc.nc. rate (a) was higher, while the growth rate (b) was lower c.mpared to the estimates based on the STIc. model.

Different c.op models inc.uding MAIZE c.res, STIc. and other approac.es have been used to simulate leaf area index (LAI) in maize (Zea mays L.). These modeling tools require genotype-spec.fic.c.libration proc.dures. Studies on modeling LAI dynamic. under optimal growth c.nditions with yields c.ose to the yield potential have remained sc.rc.. In the present study, logistic.and exponential approac.es have been developed and evaluated for the simulation of LAI in maize in a savannah region of the DR-c.ngo. Data for the development and the evaluation of the model were c.llec.ed manually by non-destruc.ive method from small farmers’ field. The rate of expansion of the leaf surfac. and the rate of c.ange of leaf senesc.nc. were also simulated. There were measurable variations among sites and varieties for the simulated height of maize plants. At all sites, the varieties with short plants were assoc.ated with expec.ed superior performanc. based on simulation data. In general, the model underestimates the LAI based on observed values. LAI values for the genetic.lly improved maize varieties (Salongo 2, MUS and Ak. were greater than those of the unimproved loc.l variety (Loc.l). There were signific.nt differenc.s for k. b, Ti, LAI, Tf, and parameters among models and varieties. In all sites and for all varieties, the growth rate (b) was higher, while the rate of senesc.nc. (a) was lower c.mpared to STIc. estimates.

近年来,化石燃料能源在几乎所有能源利用领域都是主要的能源,但化石燃料资源的枯竭和日益严峻的环境问题导致化石燃料的使用受到限制。社会的发展离不开能源,因此,积极开发利用可再生能源显得尤为重要,如风能、太阳能、潮汐能、地热能等。然而,这些清洁能源存在不连续、不稳定、不可控的问题,因此,开发先进储能技术显得尤为重要。二次离子电池因其高效的能量转换效率和易于系统集成的优势而成为最具竞争力的候选者之一。其中,锂离子电池具有较高的能量密度,是目前商业化最成功的储能设备。然而,地壳中不均匀锂资源的储量极大地限制了锂离子电池储能装置未来的发展。与锂(Li)相比,地壳中钠(Na)资源储量丰富,并且由于Li和Na之间的物理化学性质具有相似性,钠离子电池获得了研究者的广泛关注,并被认为是规模储能领域最具前景的储能装置之一。电化学储能器件的构造关键在高性能电极材料。锂/钠离子电池中的储能过程由Li/Na离子在电极材料中的可逆嵌脱来实现。与Li离子半径(≈0.6?)相比,Na离子半径(≈1.02?)较大,锂离子电池常用的电极材料并不能直接应用于钠离子电池,。在钠离子电池负极材料方面,目前已报道的材料主要包括金属氧化物、金属硒化物、过渡金属氟化物以及碳基材料(石墨、碳纳米管、碳纳米片、生物质衍生硬碳)等。其中,硬碳材料原料广泛、合成简单且储钠性能较好,被认为是最有前景的钠离子电池负极材料,但其实际应用过程中仍面临首次库仑效率较低、倍率性能较差等问题。当前,提高硬碳负极材料电化学性能的方法主要有杂原子掺杂、材料表面工程等。其中杂原子掺杂效果突出、研究最为广泛。引入氮、磷、硫、硼等掺杂原子,可有效扩大硬碳材料层间间距,促进钠离子在层间的插层和传输,同时提高电化学反应活性和电子导电性,改善其储钠性能。本论文综述了钠离子电池电极材料初始库仑效率和倍率性能问题,开发了以氮/磷/硫等杂原子掺杂提高樟树衍生生物质硬碳负极材料初始库仑效率和倍率性能的方法。樟树是一种中型树木,可长到20-30米,在中国种植广泛、成本低廉,以樟树为原材料制备生物质硬碳负极材料具有原料来源广、生产成本低等优势。樟树衍生硬碳材料采用热解工艺合成,将预处理后的樟树材料在氩气气氛中升温至800、900、1100、1300和1500℃热解2小时即可得到产物。与在低热解温度下制备的其他材料相比,在1500℃下制备的樟树衍生硬碳材料具有最佳的电化学性能,初始放电容量为333.9m Ah g,初始库伦效率为50.11%。这是因为在1500℃下制备的硬碳材料中具有相对较低的缺陷和较高的石墨化程度。进一步探究了热解工艺参数对樟树衍生硬碳材料初始库伦效率和倍率性能的影响。将樟木在氢气和氩气气氛的混合气中(以5%:95%的比例)经600℃热解1小时对照组实验条件为氩气气氛,1100和1500℃热解1小时和2小时。电化学性能测试结果表明,在氢气和氩气混合气氛中制备的硬碳可以提供457.2 m Ah g的初始放电容量,初始库仑效率为35.47%。在40、80、200、400、800和2000 m A g的电流密度下比容量分别为为172.5、147.1、123.6、113.6、96.9、55.4 m Ah g。与在1100℃和1500℃下热解2小时所得的硬碳相比,在1100和1500℃下经1小时热解制备的硬碳具有非常低的初始库仑效率和速率性能,这说明在减少热解过程时间下制备的材料显示出更多的缺陷和官能团,在初始充放电循环中消耗了更多的钠离子,导致电极表面形成固体电解质界面和电解质分解。因此,控制热解过程的时间是制备樟脑衍生的硬碳作为钠离子电池负极材料的一个非常重要的参数。为了提高樟树衍生硬碳的储钠性能,进一步提出了硫、氮和磷等杂原子掺杂策略,并使用升华硫、硝酸和磷酸作为杂原子的来源。以1:4的比例混合升华硫与樟木,分别在700、800、900和1000℃的热解温度得到硫掺杂硬碳材料分别以1∶4的比例对樟木进行热解;将2g樟木置于220毫升(9.1 vol%)硝酸溶液中,在60°c.以500转/分钟搅拌24小时,然后将所处理的材料过滤并用去离子水洗涤,干燥24小时在700,800,900和1000℃下进行热解,得到氮掺杂硬碳材料;在与氮掺杂相同的条件下,通过用磷酸处理樟木并热解得到磷掺杂硬碳材料。作为钠离子电池的负极,硫掺杂硬碳材料展现了优异的电化学性能,其初始放电容量为616.7 m Ah g,初始库伦效率为66.16%。在40、80、200、400、800和2000 m A g的电流密度下,比容量分别为372.3、323、282.6、252.6、221、181.2 m Ah g。氮掺杂材料的初始放电容量为325.9 m Ah g,初始库伦效率为45.42%,在40、80、200、400、800和2000 m A g的

The objec.ive of this study was to c.arac.erize environment fac.ors involved in loss of seed viability during storage in open granaries. The temperature and relative humidity of the granary as well as the equilibrium moisture c.ntent of seeds were determined monthly. Their effec.s on the loss of viability of maize (Zea mays L.) and c.wpea (Vigna unguic.lata (L.) Walp.) seeds were examined. The results showed that relative humidity levels > 65% assoc.ated with temperatures > 25°c.(c.nditions in the open granary) do not guarantee safe storage of maize lots for a period of 9 to 12 months. Based on these data and the results of seed viability analysis, loc.l environmental c.nditions in Gandajik. (DR-c.ngo) and seed genetic.bac.0}round are the main fac.ors for the rapid deterioration of seeds during storage. The germination rate c.rrelated negatively with storage duration (-0.94) and temperature (-0.57) while it correlates positively with the relative humidity (0.58) for both lots of maize analyzed. The same trend was observed with the two-cowpea varieties studied (IT82D-889 and Diamant).
