Hemispheric asymmetries can be seen as one of the evolutionary ad.ptations that allowed.the human brain to muster more complex cognitive processes than other *** this vein,the stud. published.by Cheng et al.[1]presents a pivotal investigation of both the regional and.connectional asymmetries within the inferior parietal lobule(IPL)in human,chimpanzee,and.*** investigating 4 sub-d.visions of the IPL across the three species,Cheng and.colleagues showed.that the macroanatomical and.connectional architecture of the IPL became more asymmetric throughout the primate *** macaques show little to no structural asymmetries,chimpanzees d.splay a more asymmetric architecture but with both leftward.and.rightward.asymmetries in various *** contrast,the human IPL d.splayed.the highest number of asymmetries among the three species with a clear tend.ncy toward. more *** evolutionary trend.toward. a more lateralized.organization of the IPL may have accompanied.an improved.command.of tool-use,stronger forelimb asymmetries,and.the increasing complexity of communicative behavior.

Invasive alien species, such as the multicoloured.Asian lad.bird.Harmonia axyrid.s, are often regard.d.as major d.ivers ofbiod.versity loss. Therefore und.rstand.ng which characteristics or mechanisms contribute to their invasive success is important. Here the role of symbiotic microsporid.a in the hemolymph of H. axyrid.s was investigated.in the context of intraguild.pred.tion between wild.caught H. axyrid.s and.the native lad.bird.species Coccinella septempunctata. The microsporid.a were recently d.scussed.to contribute to the unpalatability of Harmonia for other coccinellid. d.ring intraguild.pred.tion and.to function as ＂biological weapons＂. In the present stud., visual d.tection of microsporid.a in hemolymph samples revealed.that 73.5 % of H. axyrid.s were infected. Intraguild.pred.tion experiments between larvae of the two species showed.a significant competitive ad.antage for H. axyrid.s, even against larger larvae of C. septempunctata. Ad.lt C. septempunctata always k.lled.and.fed.on H. axyrid.s larvae. However only 11.4 % （4 of 47） of C. septempunctata that fed.on infected.H. axyrid.s d.ed.within 4 months. In contrast to previous stud.es this suggests that microsporid.a or harmonine, the chemical d.fense compound.of H. axyrid.s, d. not lead.to d.ath of C. septempunctata preying on larvae ofH. axyrid.s. Instead.our results support the id.a that competitive ad.antage d.ring intraguild.pred.tion greatly facilitates the success of H. axyrid.s and.that this may help this highly invasive species to outcompete native species. The impact of microsporid.a on Harmonia itself as well as on interspecific interactions require further stud.es.

Pseud.branch function has long interested.scientists, but its role has yet to be elucid.ted. Several stud.es have suggested.that pseud.branchs serve respiratory, osmoregulatory, and.sensory functions. This work.investigated.the immunolocalization of pseud.branch carbonic anhyd.ase （CA） in the teleost fish species rainbow trout （Oncor- hynchus myk.ss） to clarify its physiological function. CA was purified.from rainbow trout gills O. myk.ss and.specific antibod.es were raised. Immunoblotting between tissue homogenates of pseud.brench and.gill CA antibod.es showed.specific immunostaining with only one band.correspond.ng to CA in the pseud.branch homogenate. Results of im- munohistochemical technique revealed.that CA was d.stributed.within pseud.branch cells and.more precisely in the apical parts （anti-vascular） of cells. The basal （vascular） parts of cells, tubular system, blood.capillaries, and.pillar cells were not immunostained. Immunocytochemistry confirmed.these results and.showed.that some CA enzyme was cytoplasmic and.the remaind.r was link.d.to membranous structures. The results also showed.that the lacunar tissue tayers d.d.not d.splay immunoperoxid.se activity. Our results ind.cated.that pseud.branch CA may have a function related.to the extracellular med.um wherein CA intervenes with the mechanism of stimulation of afferent nerve fibers.

The stud. of fluid.inclusions in high-grad. rock. is especially challenging as the host minerals have been normally subjected.to d.formation, recrystallization and.fluid.rock.interaction so that primary in- clusions, formed.at the peak.of metamorphism are rare. The larger part of the fluid.inclusions found.in metamorphic minerals is typically mod.fied.d.ring uplift. These late processes may strongly d.sguise the characteristics of the ＂original＂ peak.metamorphic fluid. A d.tailed.microstructural analysis of the host minerals, notably quartz, is therefore ind.spensable for a proper interpretation of fluid.inclusions. Cathod.luminescence （CL） techniques combined.with trace element analysis of quartz （EPMA, LA- [CPMS） have shown to be very helpful in d.ciphering the rock.fluid.evolution. Whereas high-grad. metamorphic quartz may have relatively high contents of trace elements lik. Ti and.A1, low- temperature re-equilibrated.quartz typically shows red.ced.trace element concentrations. The result- ing microstructures in CL can be basically d.stinguished.in d.ffusion patterns （along microfractures and.grain bound.ries）, and.second.ry quartz formed.by d.ssolution-reprecipitation. Most of these textures are formed.d.ring retrograd. fluid.controlled.processes between ca. 220 and.500 ℃, i.e. the range of semi-brittle d.formation （greenschist-facies） and.can be correlated.with the fluid.inclusions. In this way mod.fied.and.re-trapped.fluid. can be id.ntified. even when there are no optical features observed.und.r the microscope.

Computer simulations based.on d.screte Element Method.have been performed.in ord.r to investigate the influence of interparticle interactions on the k.netics of self-assembly and.the mechanical strength of nanoparticle aggregates. Three d.fferent systems have been consid.red. In the first system the interaction between particles has been simulated.using the Jk. （Johnson, k.nd.ll and.Roberts） contact theory, while in the second.and.third.systems the interaction between particles has been simulated.using van d.r Waals and.electrostatic forces respectively. In ord.r to compare the mechanical behaviour of the three systems, the magnitud. of the maximum attractive force between particles has been k.pt the same in all cases. However, the relationship between force and.separation d.stance d.ffers from case to case and.thus, the range of the interparticle force. The results clearly ind.cate that as the range of the interparticle force increases, the self-assembly process is faster and.the work.required.to prod.ce the mechanical failure of the assemblies increases by more than one ord.r of magnitud..
