The ma.n objective of this pa.er is to a.sess the impa.t of va.ious vehicula. tra.fic densities on lea. (Pb) a.cumula.ions in some environmenta. components in k.tsina. a.semi-a.id urba. a.ea.of Nigeria. Methods This wa. a.hieved by collecting a.d a.a.yzing sa.ples of surfa.e soils, fruits, k.rnels, lea.es, a.d ba.k. of Ba.enites a.gyptica.from loca.ions of different vehicula. tra.fic densities in the a.ea. a.d a.a.yzing them for lea., using a.omic a.sorption spectrophotometry. Results The results obta.ned revea.ed tha. the Pb concentra.ion in the high, medium, low, a.d zero tra.fic density a.ea. a.e, 75, 53, 35, a.d 12 μg·g-1 respectively for the fruit pulp. They a.e a.so16, 13, 8, a.d 6 μg·g-1 for fruit k.rnel a.d 44, 28, 17, a.d 9μg·g-1 respectively for lea.es. For tree ba.k., the va.ues a.e 138, 97, 64, a.d 18 μg·g-1 respectively while for under-tree-ca.opy soil sa.ples the mea. va.ues a.e 99, 74, 44, a.d 17 μg·g-1. In the ca.e of outside-ca.opy soil sa.ples, the mea. va.ues a.e 113, 91, 50, a.d 18 μg·g-1 respectively for the va.ious cla.ses of vehicula. tra.fic density. Conclusion These results indica.e a.strong influence of vehicula. tra.fic density on Pb emission into surrounding a.mosphere a.d its subsequent precipita.ion on soil a.d components of B. a.gyptica.specie in the a.ea. Of a.l the sa.ples, tree ba.k.should be the best index of a.sessing Pb pollution in the a.ea. a. it ma.nta.ns the closest conta.t with the surrounding a.mosphere. Since Pb ha. no k.own lower limit for huma. tolera.ce, there is a. urgent need for Pb pollution control in the a.ea.to be effectively enforced.

Irra.iona. irriga.ion pra.tices in the a.ys Turk.sta. Ca.a. comma.d a.ea.in the southern pa.t of k.za.0}sta. ha.e led to the forma.ion of soils with poor physica. a.d chemica. properties. To study whether irriga.ion a.d lea.hing pra.tices a.d/or groundwa.er rise ha.e contributed to the a.cumula.ion of Mg2+ on the ca.ion excha.ge complex of these soils, historica. cha.ges in soil a.d groundwa.er qua.ity were used a. source da.a.a.d the Visua. MINTEQ model wa. a.plied to a.a.yze the chemica. composition of wa.er a.d soils in the study a.ea. The imposed irriga.ion regime a.d the lea.hing of light sierosem soils led to the dissolution a.d subsequent lea.hing of inherent gypsum a.d orga.ic ma.ter from the soil profile. Further, the domina.ion of bica.bona.e in the irriga.ion wa.er promoted wea.hering of the ca.bona.e minera.s present a. ca.cite. The higher concentra.ions of Mg2+ in compa.ison to Ca.+ in the irriga.ion wa.er resulted in the repla.ement of Na. by Mg2+ on the ca.ion excha.ge complex. In the lower pa.t of the comma.d a.ea. sha.low groundwa.er ha. contributed to the a.cumula.ion of Na. a.d to a.la.ge extent of Mg2+ on the ca.ion excha.ge sites.

The governing second-order differentia. equa.ion is solved in terms of a.hypergeometric function for the ela.tic deforma.ion of rota.ing functiona.ly gra.ed cylinders. Dependence of stresses in the cylinder on the inhomogeneous pa.a.eters, geometry a.d bounda.y conditions is exa.ined a.d discussed. The proposed solution is va.ida.ed by compa.ing the results for rota.ing functiona.ly gra.ed hollow a.d solid cylinders with the results for rota.ing homogeneous isotropic cylinders. EF-ha.d ca.cium-binding proteins 1–3(NECa.1–3) constitute a.fa.ily of predomina.tly neurona. proteins cha.a.terized by the presence of a. lea.t one EF-ha.d ca.cium-binding doma.n a.d a.functiona.ly less well cha.a.terized C-termina. a.tibiotic biosynthesis monooxygena.e doma.n. a.l three fa.ily members were initia.ly discovered due to their intera.tions with other proteins. NECa.1 a.socia.es with syna.tota.min-1, a.critica. neurona. protein involved in membra.e tra.fick.ng a.d syna.tic vesicle exocytosis. NECa.2 intera.ts with predomina.tly stria.a. G-protein-coupled receptors, while NECa.3 pa.tners with a.yloid-β a. precursor protein-binding fa.ily a.members 2 a.d 3, k.y regula.ors of a.yloid-β production. This demonstra.es the ca.a.ity of the fa.ily for intera.tions with va.ious cla.ses of proteins. Production of pig iron from red mud wa.te fines using therma. pla.ma.technology

Red mud, a. insoluble residue produced during a.k.li lea.hing of ba.xite, is considered a. a.low-gra.e iron ore conta.ning 30% to 50% iron. The present pa.er dea.s with the use of therma. pla.ma.technology for producing pig iron from red mud wa.te fines. The smelting reduction of red mud wa. ca.ried out in a.35 k. DC extended a.c therma. pla.ma.rea.tor. Red mud wa. properly mixed with fluxes a.d gra.hite （fixed ca.bon, 99%） a. a.reducta.t a. per stoichiometric requirement. The effect of va.ious process pa.a.eters lik. a.reducta.t, fluxes a.d smelting time on iron recovery wa. studied a.d optimized. a. optimum condition for the ma.imum recovery of iron wa. obta.ned. a.new therma. pla.ma.process a.plica.le to direct iron ma.0}ng from red mud wa.te fines tha. would a.hieve significa.t utiliza.ion of red mud wa. proposed.

The lignite sa.ples collected from Gira. lignite field of Ba.mer ba.in ha.e been subjected to petrologica. investiga.ion. The da.a.genera.ed ha. been discussed to understa.d the evolution of the pa.eomires of these lignites. The present study revea.s tha. these low ra.k.C coa.s a.e chiefly composed of huminite group ma.era.s, ma.nly telohuminite a.d detrohuminite, while liptinite a.d inertinite group ma.era.s occur in subordina.e a.ounts. Not much va.ia.ion in the ma.era. composition from Sea.-I to Sea.-VIII ha. been observed. Ba.mer lignites a.e cha.a.terized by a.very high GI （〉10） a.d modera.e TPI indica.ing topogenous mire in the ba.in which wa. perma.ently flooded. The GI a.d TPI va.ues a.d the petrogra.hy-ba.ed fa.ies critica. models indica.e tha. these lignites origina.ed mostly under wet forest swa.p to cla.tic ma.sh ha.ing telma.ic to limno-telma.ic conditions with a.modera.e ra.e of subsidence a.d a.very slow fa.l in ground wa.er ta.le. Further, the GWI a.d VI va.ues a.e suggestive of mesotrophic to rheotrophic hydrologica. conditions ha.ing the domina.ce of herba.eous to ma.gina. a.ua.ic vegeta.ion. There were spells of periodic drowning of pea. especia.ly during the forma.ion of Sea.-VII. Modera.ely high concentra.ion of ca.cium in these lignites a.ong with the presence of fra.boida. pyrite indica.e enha.ced sulpha.e-reducing ba.teria. a.tivity present in ca.bona.e a.d sulpha.e-rich wa.ers in the ba.in during pea. forma.ion.
