In this study, reduction and desorption of oxides of nitrogen （NOx） were conducted using an electrical discharge plasma technique. The study was carried out using a simulated gas mixture to explore the possibility of re-generation of used adsorbents by a nonthermal plasma desorption technique. Three different types of corona electrodes, namely, pipe, helical wire, and straight wire, were used for analyzing their effectiveness in NOx reduction/desorption. The pipe- type corona electrode exhibited a nitric oxide （NO） conversion of 50%, which is 1.5 times that of the straight-wire-type electrode at an energy density of 175 J/L. The helical-wire-type corona electrode exhibited a NOx desorption efficiency almost 4 times that of the pipe-type electrode, indicating the possibility that corona-generated species play a crucial role in desorption.

Most of life maintains itself through turnover, namely cell proliferation, movement and elimination. Hydra＇s cells, for example, disappear continuously from the ends of tenta- cles, but these cells are replenished by cell proliferation within the body. Inspired by such a biological fact, and together with various operations of polynomials, I here propose polynomial-life model toward analysis of some phenomena in multicellular organisms. Polynomial life consists of multicells that are expressed as multivariable polynomials. A cell is expressed as a term of polynomial, in which point （m, n） is described as a term zmy~ and the condition is described as its coefficient. Starting with a single term and following reductions by set of polynomials, I simulate the development from a cell to a multicell. In order to confirm uniqueness of the eventual multicell-pattern, GrSbner base can be used, which has been conventionally used to ensure uniqueness of normal form in the mathematical context. In this framework. I present various patterns through the polynomial-life model and discuss patterns maintained through turnover. Cell elimina- tion seems to play an important role in turnover, which may shed some light on cancer or regenerative medicine.

Peginterferon and ribavirin combination therapy for the treatment of hepatitis C virus （HCV） is well k.own to be associated with significant adverse effects. Sensorineural hearing loss, that in most cases is unilateral, has been reported as a consequence of therapy with both non-pegylabed and pegylated interferon （pegIFN） but is not a well-k.own adverse effect. We report a 45-year-old Caucasian woman who developed acute sensorineural hearing loss 2 mo after starting therapy with pegIFN-α 2b and ribavirin for the treatment of chronic HCV, genotype la. She did not report the hearing loss to the hepatitis clinic until 1 mo, later whereupon therapy was promptly discontinued. Although her serum alanine aminotransferase （ALT） normalized and her HCV-RNA became undetectable after 12 wk.of pegIFN and dbavirin therapy, after discontinuation, her HCV-RNA became detectable with significant elevations of serum ALT. Four months after initial discontinuation, the patient re-commenced pegIFN and ribavirin combination therapy. After 44 of 48 wk.of therapy, the patient＇s liver biochemistry has normalized and the HCV-RNA is undetectable. She has not developed worsening of her hearing loss and hearing on the left-side is unaffected. Both patients and physicians should be aware that sensorineural hearing loss may occur with pegIFN therapy. Our experience suggests that re-institution of therapy is not always associated with further hearing impairment.

A predual of B_σ-spaces is investigated. A predual of a predual of B_σ-spaces is also investigated,which can be used to investigate the boundedness property of the commutators. The relation between Herz spaces and local Morrey spaces is discussed. As an application of the duality results, one obtains the boundedness of the singular integral operators, the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operators and the fractional integral operators, as well as the commutators generated by the bounded mean oscillation(BMO) and the singular integral *** is new in this paper is that we do not have to depend on the specific structure of the operators. The results on the boundedness of operators are formulated in terms of B_σ-spaces and B_σ-spaces together with the detailed comparison of the ones in Herz spaces and local Morrey spaces. Another application is the nonsmooth atomic decomposition adapted to B_σ-spaces.

About three decades after the establishment of the plate tec- tonics theory in the late 1960s, Maruyama （1994） proposed the ＂plume tectonics＂ theory based on whole-mantle seismic tomogra- phy image （Fuk.o, 1992; Fuk.o et al., 1994）. According to this the- ory, the earth＇s interior is divided into three regimes： the earth＇s surface region governed by lateral motions of tectonic plates, the mantle governed by vertical motions of ＂superplumes＂（i.e., large- scale mantle upwelling/downwelling plumes）, and the core, whose convection style is probably controlled by superplumes in the mantle. With the rapid progress in earth science after the birth of the plume tectonics theory, it is now widely accepted that various geological phenomena observed in the earth＇s surface are closely link.d to the fluid motion in the deep mantle （e.g., Davies, 2011）.

Text mining, also k.own as discovering k.owledge from the text, which has emerged as a possible solution for the current information explosion, refers to the process of extracting non-trivial and useful patterns from unstructured text. Among the general task. of text mining such as text clustering, summarization, etc, text classification is a subtask.of intelligent information processing, which employs unsupervised learning to construct a classifier from training text by which to predict the class of unlabeled text. Because of its simplicity and objectivity in performance evaluation, text classification was usually used as a standard tool to determine the advantage or weak.ess of a text processing method, such as text representation, text feature selection, etc. In this paper, text classification is carried out to classify the Web documents collected from XSSC Website （http：//***）. The performance of support vector machine （SVM） and back.propagation neural network.（BPNN） is compared on this task. Specifically, binary text classification and multi-class text classification were conducted on the XSSC documents. Moreover, the classification results of both methods are combined to improve the accuracy of classification. An experiment is conducted to show that BPNN can compete with SVM in binary text classification; but for multi-class text classification, SVM performs much better. Furthermore, the classification is improved in both binary and multi-class with the combined method.

At elevated temperature, creep failures of polycrystalline metals after long-term constant loading are often caused by the nucleation, growth and coalescence of creep voids on the grain boundaries. Void h＇action is an important parameter for the evaluation of creep damage level of structural materials operating at high temperature. In this paper, a 2-D numerical simulation method was developed for analyzing the void fraction evolution during the process of creep, based on some hypothesis from experiments. The model was implemented and then was used to predict the evolution of void fraction in the 2.25Cr-1Mo steel of uniaxial creep experiment at 570 ℃, in which the simulation results showed good agreement with the experimental results.

This paper presents an algorithm that tests whether a given degree-bounded digraph is k.edge-connected or E-far from k.edge-connectivity. This is the first testing algorithm for k.edge- connectivity of digraphs whose running time is independent of the number of vertices and edges. A digraph of n vertices with degree bound d is ε-far from k.edge-connectivity if at least εdn edges have to be added or deleted to mak. the digraph k.edge-connected, preserving the degree bound. Given a constant error parameter ε and a degree bound d, our algorithm always accepts all k.edge-connected digraphs and reiects all digraphs that is ε-far from k.edge-connectivity with orobabilitv at least 2/*** runs in O（d（εd^-c）^k.logεd^-1O）（c〉1 is a constant）time when input digraphs are restricted to be （k.1）-edge connected and runs in O（d（εd^-ck.^k.ogεd^-k.）（c〉1 is a constant）time for general digraphs.
