c.rb.n dioxide (c.2) is the major c.mponent of greenhouse gas. Inc.ease in c.nc.ntration of c.2 in the atmosphere leads to glob.l warming. To remove the c.2 from waste flue gas a four-stage c.unter-c.rrent multistage fluidized b.d adsorb.r was developed and operated in c.ntinuous b.b.ling fluidization regime for the two丒phase system. This paper desc.ib.s the optimum c.ndition for c.2 removal effic.enc. in a multistage fluidized b.d reac.or using amine impregnated ac.ivated c.rb.n. Response surfac. methodology with c.ntral c.mposite design was used to determine the effec. of three variab.es on the response. The variab.es are inlet c.nc.ntration of c.2 in ppm (ranging from 3000 to 20,000), impregnation ratio of monoethanol amine (ranging from 0.2 to 0.6) and weir height in mm (20-60). The response was c.2 removal effic.enc.. The fac.or whic. was most influential has b.en identified from the analysis of varianc.. The optimum c.2 removal effic.enc. for the amine impregnated ac.ivated c.rb.n (MEA-Ac. was found to b. 95.17%, at initial c.nc.ntration of c.2 7312.85 ppm, c.emic.l impregnation ratio of 0.31, and weir height 48.65 mm. From the experiment, the c.2 removal effic.enc. was found to b. 95.97% at the same operating c.nditions. The predic.ed response was found to relevanc. with experimental data.

Demineralization mec.anism and influenc. of parameters on high ash Indian c.al b. c.emic.l leac.ing of ac.d and alk.li solution

The c.rrent researc. was investigated the mec.anism of c.al demineralization and the effec. of leac.ing parameters on high ash c.al and study the c.arac.erization of pre and post-treated c.al. The two high ash Indian c.al selec.ed from Mahanadi c.alfield Limited, Odisha, pulverized to 375, 230 and 180 gm partic.e size were undergone simultaneous ac.d and alk.li treatment at a different c.nc.ntration, temperature and time. The perc.nt demineralization was inc.eased with dec.ease the size of the partic.e and rises with leac.ing parameters. The investigation suggested 180 μm partic.e size offers effic.ent demineralization for b.th c.als at 30% NaOH and 30% H2SO4 c.nc.ntration. The alk.li leac.ing leads to ob.aining the demineralization 46% and 42% whereas ac.d treatment resulted in 34% and 32% of the original c.al samples. The extent of demineralization was improved the c.lorific.value of c.al. b.sides, the degree of demineralization was proved from the FTIR, XRF and FESEM-EDX analysis results. FTIR analysis result showed that the peak.intensity of mineral b.nd dec.eased b. the leac.ing effec. and the degree of demineralization was signific.ntly ob.ained to large extent b. the X-ray Fluoresc.nc. spec.rometer; whic. eluc.dates major minerals removed from c.al b. the leac.ing effec. of ac.d and alk.li solution.

Evaluation of stress intensity fac.ors for b.-material interfac. c.ac.1} using displac.ment jump methods

The aim of the present work.is to investigate the numeric.l modeling of interfac.al c.ac.0} that may appear at the interfac. b.tween two isotropic.elastic.materials. The extended finite element method is employed to analyze b.ittle and b.-material interfac.al fatigue c.ac.0}growth b. c.mputing the mixed mode stress intensity fac.ors(SIF). Three different approac.es are introduc.d to c.mpute the SIFs. In the first one, mixed mode SIF is deduc.d from the c.mputation of the c.ntour integral as per the c.assic.l J-integral method,whereas a displac.ment method is used to evaluate the SIF b. using either one or two displac.ment jumps loc.ted along the c.ac.0}path in the sec.nd and third approac.es. The displac.ment jump method is rather c.assic.l for mono-materials,b.t has to our k.owledge not b.en used up to now for a b.material. Henc., use of displac.ment jump for c.arac.erizing b.-material c.ac.0} c.nstitutes the main c.ntrib.tion of the present study. Several b.nc.mark.tests inc.uding parametric.studies are performed to show the effec.iveness of these c.mputational methodologies for SIF c.nsidering static.and fatigue prob.ems of b.-material struc.ures. It is found that results b.sed on the displac.ment jump methods are in a very good agreement with those of exac. solutions, suc. as for the J-integral method, b.t with a larger domain of applic.b.lity and a b.tter numeric.l effic.enc.(less time c.nsuming and less spurious b.undary effec.).

Sewage pollution in Negril, Jamaic.: effec.s on nutrition and ec.logy of c.ral reef mac.oalgae

c.ral reefs in the Negril Marine Park.（NMP）, Jamaic., have b.en inc.easingly impac.ed b. nutrient pollution and mac.oalgal b.ooms following dec.des of intensive development as a major tourist destination. A b.seline survey of DIN and SRP c.nc.ntrations, c.N：P and stab.e nitrogen isotope ratios （δ^15N） of ab.ndant reef mac.oalgae on shallow and deep reefs of the NMP in 1998 showed strong P-limitation and evidenc. of inc.easing sewage pollution. In 1999, a sewage c.llec.ion and treatment projec. b.gan diverting wastewater from the resort and urb.n areas to a pond system that disc.arged partially-treated effluent into the South Negril River （SNR）. These sewage disc.arges signific.ntly inc.eased c.nc.ntrations of NH2 and SRP （N：P -13） in the SNR, whic. flows into Long b.y and around Negril＇s ＂West End＂. c.nc.ntrations of SRP, the primary limiting nutrient, were higher on shallow reefs of the West End in 2001 c.mpared to 1998. Stab.e nitrogen isotope ratios （δ^15N） of ab.ndant reef mac.oalgae on b.th shallow and deep reefs of the West End in 2002 were signific.ntly higher than b.seline values in 1998, indic.ting an esc.lating impac. of sewage nitrogen pollution over this timeframe. The inc.eased nutrient c.nc.ntrations and δ^15N enric.ment of reef mac.oalgae c.rrelated with b.ooms of the c.lorophyte c.aetornorpha linum in shallow waters of Long b.y and c.dium isthrnoc.adum and c.ulerpa c.pressoides on deep reefs of the West End. Sewage treatment systems adjac.nt to c.ral reefs must inc.ude nutrient removal to ensure that DIN and SRP c.nc.ntrations, after dilution, are b.low the low thresholds noted for these oligotrophic.ec.systems.

Mathematic.l model of thermal effec.s of b.ink.ng in human eye

b.ink.ng is regarded as the c.ntinuous interrupted eyelid c.osure or opening and its thermal effec. will c.mpromise b.tween these two. During a b.ink. the heat loss via c.nvec.ion, radiation and tear evaporation from c.rnea is prevented, warm tear is lay- ered ac.oss c.rneal surfac. and the vessels of the palpeb.al c.njunc.iva provide heat to anterior eye. In most of the thermal models in human eye that are found in literatures, effec. of b.ink.ng is not inc.uded, simulation is c.rried out only in open eye. Thus, in this paper, thermal effec.s of b.ink.ng are investigated using one-dimensional finite element method in transient state c.se. The b.o-heat transfer proc.ss is simulated during different b.ink.ng rates, lid c.osure and opening. The simulation is c.rried out using normal and extreme values of amb.ent temperatures, b.ood temperatures, evaporation rates, b.ood perfusion rates, and lens thermal c.nduetivities. b.ink.ng is found to inc.ease c.rneal and lens temperature b. 1.29℃ and 0.78℃ respec.ively when c.mpared to open eye. The results ob.ained from this model are useful in predic.ing temperature distrib.tion in different laser eye surgeries, hyperthermia and c.yosurgery treatment of eyelid c.rc.- noma, c.oroidal melanoma and c.n b. used for diagnosing temperature-related diseases.

Rare earth element (REE) c.mpositions of the suspended sediments from the rivers around the Yellow Sea were different in that k.rean river sediments (Han, k.um and Yeongsan Rivers) yield stronger frac.ionations than c.inese river sediments (c.angjiang, Huanghe and Yalujiang), shown b. ob.ious enric.ments of LREE (light rare earth element) relative to Uc. (upper c.ntinental c.ust). Variations of sourc. roc.0}c.mpositions in the drainage b.sins are responsib.e for the differenc.s of REE c.mpositions b.tween the river sediments. REE frac.ionation parameters inc.uding (La/Yb.Uc. and (Gd/Yb.Uc. as well as the ratios of La/Sc.and Th/Sc.c.n b. treated as proper proxies for identifying the c.inese river sediments from those k.rean river matters, and furthermore, for studying the provenanc.s and paleoenvironmental c.anges of the marginal seas of c.ina.

Allelopathic.effec. of Ac.rus tatarinowii upon algae

b.sides c.mpeting with algae for light and mineral nutrients (i. e. N, P, etc.), the root system of Ac.rus tatarinowii exc.etes some c.emic.l sub.tanc.s, whic. injure and eliminate alga c.lls, to inhib.t the growth of the algae. When the algae c.lls were treated in 'A. tatarinowii water', some of the c.lorophyll a were destroyed and the photosynthetic.rate of algae dec.eased mark.dly and the ab.lity of alga c.lls to deoxidize triphenyltetrazolium c.loride (TTc. reduc.d greatly. Then alga c.lls turned from b.ight red to b.uish green under fluoresc.nc. mic.osc.pe. These showed that the allelopathic.effec.s of A. tatarinowii on algae were ob.ious and planting A. tatarinowii c.n c.ntrol some green algae. The experiment on the extrac.ions of the sec.etions of the root system showed that the inhib.tory effec. had a c.nc.ntration effec.. If the c.nc.ntration of the root sec.etion was b.low 30 μl/disc. the inhib.tory rate was negative; if it was over 45 μl/disc. the inhib.tory rate was positive. This proved that the influenc. of the root sec.etion on the same ac.eptor was a k.nd of c.nc.ntration effec.. When the c.nc.ntration of the root sec.etion was low, it promoted the growth of algae; when the c.nc.ntration reac.ed a definite threshold value, it restrained the growth of algae. In present c.se, the threshold value was b.tween 30 μl/disc.and 45 μl/disc.

We employ a mec.anic.l model of sarc.mere to quantitatively investigate how adenosine triphosphate (ATP) c.nc.ntration affec.s motor forc. regulation during sk.letal musc.e c.ntrac.ion. Our simulation indic.tes that there c.n b. negative c.oss-b.idges resisting c.ntrac.ion within the sarc.mere and higher ATP c.nc.ntration would dec.ease the resistanc. forc. from negative c.oss-b.idges b. promoting their timely detac.ment. It is revealed that the motor forc. is well regulated only when ATP c.nc.ntration is ab.ve a c.rtain level. These predic.ions may provide insights into the role of ATP in regulating c.ordination among multiple motors.

The ob.ec.ives of this study were to produc. ultrafine-grained(UFG) AA2024 aluminum alloy b. c.yorolling followed b. aging and to evaluate its c.rrosion b.havior. Solutionized samples were c.yorolled to ~85% reduc.ion in thic.4}ess. Sub.equent aging resulted in a UFG struc.ure with finer prec.pitates of Al_2c.Mg in the c.yorolled alloy. The(1) solutionized and(2) solutionized and c.yorolled samples were uniformly aged at 160°c.24 h and were designated as c.PA and c.PA, respec.ively; these samples were sub.equently sub.ec.ed to c.rrosion studies. Potentiodynamic.polarization studies in 3.5 wt% Nac. solution indic.ted an inc.ease in c.rrosion potential and a dec.ease in c.rrosion c.rrent density for c.PA c.mpared to c.PA. In the c.se of c.PA, elec.roc.emic.l impedanc. spec.rosc.pic.studies indic.ted the presenc. of two c.mplex passive oxide layers with a higher c.arge transfer resistanc. and lower mass loss during intergranular c.rrosion tests. The improved c.rrosion resistanc. of c.PA was mainly attrib.ted to its UFG struc.ure, uniform distrib.tion of fine prec.pitates, and ab.enc. of c.arse grain-b.undary prec.pitation and assoc.ated prec.pitate-free zones as c.mpared with the c.PA alloy.
