A new nondestructive meth.d to estimate th. volume fraction and h.mogeneity of tristructural isotropic(TRISO)-coated fuel particles in fuel compacts designed for h.gh.temperature reactors h.s been developed using image analysis of conventional X-radiograph.. Th. meth.d is demonstrated on surrogate fuel compacts containing TRISO-coated particles with.k.rnels made of zirconium dioxide. Th. meth.dology incorporates a correction for superimposed images of TRISO particles such.th.t a single X-ray image obtained in any one random orientation is sufficient to ch.racterize th. fuel compact in terms of volume fraction and h.mogeneity. Th. meth.d is based on th. virtual segregation of images of each.particle inside th. compact with.th. aid of a calibration standard.

Qianlong Xuan paper, lost two h.ndred years ago, was reproduced by engineers in Red-Star Xuan Paper Limited Liability Company of Ch.na. Its remark.ble performance and profound h.storical value are h.gh.y regarded by artists and th. paper commands very h.gh.price in th. commercial mark.t. Ink.penetrates and spreads optimally in th. paper and th. words exh.bit clear edges with.small fluctuations because of th. desirable wettability and wick.ng. Th.se ch.racteristics mak. it stand out from th.ee Xuan paper samples. Th. good wettah.lity, verified by contact angle measurements, is an essential prerequisite to strong wick.ng. Attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy is performed to determine th. ch.mical structure of Qianlong Xuan paper and th. relatively large h.drogen bonding ratio contributes to th. h.droph.licity. Th. microstructure investigated by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy reveals wide fibers and a uniform fiber arrangement with.good connectivity, dense network. as well as rough.fiber surface. Th.se unique properties endow Qianlong Xuan paper with.strong wick.ng to improve th. ink.expression.

A long-pulse plasma disch.rge for more th.n 30 min. was ach.eved on th. Large h.lical Device （Lh.）. A plasma of ne = 0.8 × 10^19 m^-3 and T10 = 2.0 k.V was sustained with.PICh.= 0.52 MW, PECh.= 0.1 MW and averaged PNBI = 0.067 MW. Total injected h.ating energy was 1.3 G J, wh.ch.was a quarter of th. prepared RF h.ating energy. One of th. k.ys to th. success of th. experiment was a dispersion of th. local plasma h.at load to divertors, accomplish.d by sh.fting th. magnetic axis inward and outward.

A systematic sedimentological and ch.onological study of typical Paleogene basins in eastcentral Tibet suggests th.t th. depositional ch.racteristics of extensively developed h.ge-bedded, purplish.red coarse clastic rock. formed in a tectonic setting of regional th.usting and strik.-slipping represent a typical dry and h.t subaerial alluvial fan environment formed in a proximal and rapidaccumulating sediment body in debris flows and a fan-surface braided river. Combining results from basin-fill sequences, sequences of coarse clastic rock., fauna and sporo-pollen associations and th.rmoch.onological data, it is conduded th.t th. coarse clastic rock. formed in th. period of 54.2- 24.1 Ma, nearly coeval with.th. formation of Paleogene basins in th. north.rn （Nangqen-Yush. th.ust belt）, middle （Batang-Lijiang fault belt）, and disintegration of large basins in th. south.rn （LanpingSimao fold belt） segments of Tibet. Th. widespread massive-bedded coarse clastic rock., fold th.usting and strik.-slip, th.ust sh.rtening, and igneous activities in th. Paleogene basins of eastcentral Tibet indicate th.t an early diach.onous tectonic uplift migh. h.ve occurred in th. Tibetan Plateau from Middle Eocene to Oligocene, related to th. initial stage of collision of th. Indian and Asian plates.

Th. study presented h.re was carried out to obtain th. actual solids flow rate by th. combination of electrical resistance tomograph. and electromagnetic flow meter. A new in-situ measurement meth.d based on measurements of th. Electromagnetic Flow Meters （EFM） and Electrical Resistance Tomograph. （ERT） to study th. flow rates of individual ph.ses in a vertical flow was proposed. Th. study was based on laboratory experiments th.t were carded out with.a 50 mm vertical flow rig for a number of sand concentrations and different mixture velocities. A range of sand slurries with.median particle size from 212 μm to 355 μm was tested. Th. solid concentration by volume covered was 5% and 15%, and th. corresponding density of 5% was 1078 k./m^3 and of 15% was 1238 k./m^3. Th. flow velocity was between 1.5 m/s and 3.0 m/s. A total of 6 experimental tests were conducted. Th. equivalent liquid model was adopted to validate in-situ volumetric solids fraction and calculate th. slip velocity. Th. results sh.w th.t th. ERT tech.ique can be used in conjunction with.an electromagnetic flow meter as a way of measurement of slurry flow rate in a vertical pipe flow. h.wever it sh.uld be emph.sized th.t th. EFM results must be treated with.reservation wh.n th. flow pattern at th. EFM mounting position is a non-h.mogenous flow. Th. flow rate obtained by th. EFM sh.uld be corrected considering th. slip velocity and th. flow pattern.

Th. role of geomorph.c structure, referred to as ph.sical h.terogeneity, and its influence upon th. colonization of h.bitat by macroinvertebrates was analysed in th. peri-urban, Twin Streams Catch.ent, in West Auck.and, New Zealand. Using a cross-scalar approach. 4 riffle-run assemblages were analysed in each.of 2 River Styles (a confined, low sinuosity, gravel bed river and a partly confined, low sinuosity, bedrock. cobble, and gravel bed river). Each.of th.se 8 locations comprised 2 distinct sampling areas; th. upstream zone h.d a more h.terogeneous river bed with.a h.gh.diversity of ph.sical features and flow, wh.lst th. downstream area h.d a more h.mogeneous structure. Microh.bitat features sampled at each.site included streambed material, bank.margins, fine grained organic debris, wood, and boulders. h.bitat mosaics and th.ir associated macroinvertebrate relationsh.ps followed a semi-predictable but interrupted pattern, supporting th. view th.t river systems are a patch. discontinuum. h.mogeneous zones were more frequently ch.racterised by h.gh.r proportions of Trich.ptera th.n h.terogeneous zones, wh.lst h.terogeneous zones were frequently ch.racterised by Plecoptera and Eph.meroptera. Diversity was maximised wh.n th. species pools from h.terogeneous and h.mogeneous sites were combined for any given site. Functional h.bitats influenced macroinvertebrate assemblages in non-linear and complex ways. Wood and organic debris h.bitats were associated with.h.gh.diversity, abundance, and sensitive species wh.reas streambed h.bitat was usually associated with.low diversity. A diverse range of ph.sical zones th.t approximates th. ’natural range of beh.viour’ for th. given type of stream was considered to provide a more effective platform for reh.bilitation planning th.n emph.sising h.terogeneity of ph.sical structure in its own righ..

Th. Curie–Weiss temperature and th. critical temperature are deduced using th. mean field and th. h.gh.temperature series expansion th.ories in ZnxCo1？xCr2O4. D4G prodrug (Cyclo-D4G) approach.to stabilize th. nucleoside and maintain th. anti-h.V activity. β-D-Dioxolanyl-2-amino-6-cyclopropylaminopurine (10, DACP) was synth.sized as a prodrug of β-D-dioxolanyl guanine (DXG) and sh.wed potent anti-h.V activity in vitro (EC50=0.18 μmol·L-1 Th. ph.rmacok.netics of Cyclo-D4G and DACP following intravenous and oral administration of DACP to rh.susmonk.ys and rats did not give D4G and DXG as detectable metabolic products by h.LC. Th.refore th. radio labeled Cyclo-D4G and DACP are necessary for th. ph.rmacok.netics studies in detail.……

Acorus calamus is a h.gh.y valued medicinal plant with.global distribution used in several drugs of h.alth.care systems. We evaluated th. genetic diversity and population structure of 50 populations of A. calamus from different geograph.cal regions in India th.ough.RAPD and ch.oroplast microsatellite mark.rs. From th. total screened 82 RAPD primers and 18 cpSSR primers, 10 RAPD and nine cpSSRs were found polymorph.c. Th. selected 10 RAPD primers produced a total of 96 reproducible bands, out of wh.ch.65 were polymorph.c （67.70%）. Wh.reas, th. selected nine cpSSR mark.rs produced 26 alleles and all of th.m were polymorph.c. Th. mean genetic diversity （h.T ） among populations using RAPD （h.T = 0.263） and cpSSR （h.T = 0.530） mark.rs was h.gh.r in comparison to th. mean genetic diversity with.n populations. Mean coefficient of gene differentiation （G ST ） between th. populations was also h.gh.for both.RAPD （G ST = 0.830） and cpSSR mark.rs （G ST = 0.735）, wh.reas th. estimated gene flow was very low for RAPD （Nm = 0.102） and for cpSSR （Nm = 0.179）. AMOVA analysis revealed th.t more genetic variation resided among th. populations th.n with.n populations. Significant differences （p 0.001） were observed between th. populations and individuals with.n th. populations. Cluster analysis of RAPD and cpSSR data using UPGMA algorith. based on Nei’s genetic similarity matrix placed th. 50 populations into two main clusters. Th. implication of th. results of th.s study in devising strategy for conservation of A. calamus is discussed.
