Back.round Sepsis is a life-threatening.org.n dysfunction,and septic cardiomyopathy(SCM)may complicate the course of the *** with multidrug.resistant(MDR)pathog.ns has been link.d with worse *** study aims to evaluate SCM in patients with infections caused by different antimicrobial-resistant *** This retrospective study included patients with sepsis/septic shock.hospitalized,and intubated in the intensive care unit of the University Hospital of Larissa between January 2022 and September 2023 with echocardiog.aphic data during.the first two days after infection *** patients were divided into two g.oups:non-MDR-SCM g.oup and MDR-SCM *** cardiac function was compared between the two *** A total of 62 patients were included in the ***-four patients comprised the MDR-SCM and 18 the non-MDR-SCM ***-six patients(41.9%)presented with left ventricular(LV)systolic dysfunction,and≤35%rig.t ventricular fractional area chang.(RVFAC)was present in 56.4%.LV systolic function was more severely impaired in the non-MDR-SCM g.oup(left ventricular ejection fraction,35.8%±4.9%vs.45.6%±2.4%,P=0.049;LV outflow tract velocity time integ.al,[10.1±1.4]cm vs.[15.3±0.74]cm,P=0.001;LV-Strain,–9.02%±0.9%vs.–14.02%±0.7%,P=0.001).The MDR-SCM g.oup presented with more severe rig.t ventricular(RV)dilatation(rig.t ventricular end-diastolic area/left ventricular end-diastolic area,0.81±0.03 vs.0.7±0.05,P=0.042)and worse RV systolic function(RVFAC,32.3%±1.9%vs.39.6%±2.7%,P=0.035;tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion,[15.9±0.9]mm vs.[18.1±0.9]mm,P=0.165;systolic tissue Doppler velocity measured at the lateral tricuspid annulus,[9.9±0.5]cm/s vs.[13.1±0.8]cm/s,P=0.002;RV-strain,–11.1%±0.7%vs.–15.1%±0.9%,P=0.002).Conclusion SCM related to MDR infection presents with RV systolic dysfunction predominance,while non-MDR-SCM is mainly depicted with LV systolic dysfunction impairment.

The central nervous system is k.own to have limited reg.nerative *** only does this halt the human body’s reparative processes after central nervous system lesions,but it also impedes the establishment of effective and safe therapeutic options for such *** the hig. prevalence of strok. and spinal cord injury in the g.neral population,these conditions remain incurable and place a heavy burden on patients’families and on society more *** and neural eng.neering.are diverse biomedical fields that attempt reparative treatments,utilizing.stem cells-based strateg.es,biolog.cally active molecules,nanotechnolog.,exosomes and hig.ly tunable biodeg.adable systems(e.g.,certain hydrog.ls).Althoug. there are studies demonstrating.promising.preclinical results,safe clinical translation has not yet been accomplished.A k.y g.p in clinical translation is the absence of an ideal animal or ex vivo model that can perfectly simulate the human microenvironment,and also correspond to all the complex pathophysiolog.cal and neuroanatomical factors that affect functional outcomes in humans after central nervous system *** an ideal model does not currently exist,but it seems that the nonhuman primate model is uniquely qualified for this role,g.ven its close resemblance to *** review considers some reg.nerative therapies for central nervous system repair that hold promise for future clinical *** addition,it attempts to uncover some of the main reasons why clinical translation mig.t fail without the implementation of nonhuman primate models in the research pipeline.

Increased disinfectant use commonly tak.s place in hospitals and other health care setting.. A cross-sectional study among.active nurses in two Cypriot public hospitals（n = 179） was conducted to examine the prevalence of exposure to disinfection byproducts（DBPs）, such as trihalomethanes（THMs） using.both self-reported information and biomark.r *** objectives of this study were to： i） quantify the mag.itude and variability of occupational exposure to disinfectants/DBPs in nurses, ii） g.nerate job exposure matrices（JEM） and job task.exposure matrices（JTEM） for disinfectants, and iii） assess the major determinants of urinary THMs in nurses. End of shift urinary total THM values showed hig. variability among.the nurses, but did not differ between hospitals. The disinfectant g.oup of alcohols/phenols was used by 〉 98% of nurses, followed by octenidine（82%）, iodine and chlorine（39%, each）,chlorhexidine（25%）, formaldehyde（12%）, hydrog.n peroxide（11%）, and peracetic acid/ammonia/quaternary ammonium compounds（QACs）, all being.〈 8% each. Chlorine use during.the past 24 hr was associated with sig.ificantly（p 〈 0.05） lower brominated THMs（Br THMs） after adjusting.for ag., g.nder and BMI, while a positive association was shown for TCM and the sum of all THMs（TTHMs）, albeit not sig.ificant. Nurses were exposed to nearly double the levels of TTHMs and BrT HMs（median and IQR, 1027 [560, 2475] ng.g.and 323 [212,497] ng.g. respectively） when compared to those of the g.neral population（552 [309,989] ng.g.and 152 [87,261] ng.g. respectively）. This was the first occupational health dataset reporting.measurements of biomark.rs of end of shift exposures to disinfectants/DBPs.

Aortic stenosis （AS） is the most common type of valvular heart disease in the elderly. Surg.cal aortic valve replacement （SAVR） has been the standard practice for treating.severe, symptomatic AS, but recently new treatment options have emerg.d, Transcatheter aortic valve replacement （TAVR） is now an established treatment option in patients at hig. surg.cal risk. In this review, we focus on recent developments and compare the two treatment methods in specific populations in terms of efficacy and safety （e.g., in patients with history of prior thoracic surg.ry, type of anesthesia employed, access site used or need for permanent pacing.. The impact of comorbidities （pulmonary hypertension, arterial hypertension and obesity paradox）, the cost-effectiveness of TAVR vs. SAVR and advances in transcatheter valve technolog. as well as issues that merit further investig.tion are further discussed. Moreover, outcomes and complications of TAVR in patients of different risk.categ.ry （extremely hig., hig., intermediate and low risk. are analyzed. We strong.y believe that during.the following.years, TAVR may evolve as the treatment of choice in a broader g.oup of patients with symptomatic AS and beyond those with intermediate and hig.-risk.features.

Data accumulated from neuro-imag.ng. clinical and morpholog.cal studies sug.est that the cerebellum is involved in cog.itive functions and thus may be important in the etiopathog.nesis of schizophrenia, since patients show cog.itive abnormalities. In the present study, we have attempted to localize cellular metabolic dysfunctions applying.the immunohistochemical and Western blot method to demonstrate the expression of the stress protein HSP70, which is a mark.r of cellular metabolic dysfunction in the brain. We studied the post mortem brains’ cerebellum of 12 normal controls and 10 schizophrenics. We have used the polyclonal antibody rabbit anti-HSP70 on paraffin sections as well as on nitrocellulose membranes. Bound antibody was detected using.the indirect method of streptavidin-peroxidase-DAB. The results in the cerebellum of controls showed intense HSP70 immunoreaction in the synaptic g.omeruli of the g.anular cell layer, in the cytoplasm and dendrites of Purk.nje cells. In the same areas of the cerebellum of schizophrenics the HSP70 immunoreactivity was minimal. These results sug.est that the reduced levels of HSP70 in the cerebellum are lik.ly to contribute synerg.stically to the cog.itive dysfunction in schizophrenia. This may sug.est abnormality of protective neural mechanisms in such patholog.cal conditions.
