In recent years,there has been a significant transformation in the field of incoherent imaging with new possibilities of compressing three-dimensional(3D)information into a two-dimensional intensity distribution without two-beam interference(TBI).Most of the incoherent 3D imagers without TBI are based on scattering by a random phase mask exhibiting sharp autocorrelation and low cross-correlation along the ***,during reconstruction,high lateral and axial resolutions are *** based on scattering requires an astronomical photon budget and is therefore precluded in many power-sensitive *** this study,a proof-of-concept 3D imaging method without TBI using deterministic fields has been demonstrated.A new reconstruction method called the Lucy-Richardson-Rosen algorithm has been developed for this imaging *** believe that the proposed approach will cause a paradigm-shift in the current state-of-the-art incoherent imaging,fluorescence microscopy,mid-infrared fingerprinting,astronomical imaging,and fast object recognition applications.

Iridium Implantation in T1 and T2 Cancers of Anterior Tongue: Report from B. P. koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, Nepal

Early stage cancers of tongue are treated traditionally with a wide local excision or hemiglossectomy, but the preservation of normal speech and swallowing are hampered. Most of the patients are treated with external beam irradiation to achieve the best locoregional control as only a limited number of tongue cancers can be excised. Underdeveloped nations with finite resources are still dependent on cobalt based external beam radiotherapy and sometimes a Linear Accelerator with two dimensional planning. This treatment has many limitations, as the large radiation fields irradiate not only the tumor but also normal tissue. The sequalae include mucositis, dry mouth, teeth and gum injury, spinal cord damage and rarely mandibular necrosis. Intensity modulated radiotherapy, which can abrogate these side effects, is not available to these patients. Irradiation using implanted solid radioactive sources into the tumor tissue is a viable option in this context. This kind of treatment is termed as brachytherapy and if the implant is introduced into the tissue then it is interstitial brachytherapy. This report details our experience in interstitial implantation, planning, dosimetry and treatment. Diagnosed cancers of anterior 2/3rd of lateral border of tongue with T1 N0M0 or T2 N0M0 stages were subjected to Iridium implantation under general anesthesia. Orthogonal films were taken and planning done with brachyvision treatment planning system. High dose rate radiotherapy was delivered as per the prescription. Excellent local control of the tumor was achieved with no undue morbidity to the adjacent structures. The patients were asked to undergo regular follow up. Surgical salvage was advised in cases of nodal recurrence. Interstitial implantation is a treatment that can be safely administered in early stage cancers of the tongue. This has remarkable efficacy and is also a patient friendly procedure.

Synthesis and characterization of ZnS-based quantum dots to trace low concentration of ammonia

In the present work,a solution-based co-precipitation method has been adopted to synthesize pure and cobalt-doped ZnS quantum dots and characterized by XRD,SEM,TEM with EDX,FTIR and gas sensing *** analysis has shown a single phase of ZnS quantum dots having a zinc blend *** and XRD line broadening indicated that the average crystallite size in the sample is in the range of 2 to 5 *** micrographs show spherical-shaped quantum *** studies show that cobalt has been successfully doped into the ZnS cubic *** spectra have analyzed the elemental presence in the samples and it is evident that the spectra confirmed the presence of cobalt(Co),zinc(Zn),oxygen(O),and sulphur(S)elements only and no other impurities are *** ZnS-based quantum dot sensors reveal high sensitivity towards 50 ppm of ammonia vapors at an operating temperature of 70℃.Hence,ZnS-based quantum dots can be a promising and quick traceable sensor towards ammonia sensing applications with good response and recovery time.

Anticancer activity of the ethanolic extract of Crateva nurvala bark against testosterone and MNU-induced prostate cancer in rats

AIM: In the present study the anticancer activity of the ethanolic extract of Crateva nurvala bark was evaluated against testosterone and N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU)-induced prostate cancer in male Wistar rats. METHODS: Prostate cancer was induced in rats by the injection of testosterone for 3 d followed by injection of the chemical carcinogen MNU for 1 week. The prostate cancer-induced rats were treated with the ethanolic extract of C. nurvala bark, and testosterone injection was also continued through the experimental period of 4 months. Biochemical estimations including prostatic acid phosphatase, lipid peroxidation, enzymic antioxidants and non-enzymic antioxidants activity were done in the prostate and seminal vesicle tissue homogenate. RESULTS: There was a significant increase in the level of acid phosphatase and lipid peroxidation in prostate cancer-induced rats, and after treatment with C. nurvala extract a significant decrease in the level of acid phosphatase lipid peroxidation were observed. The enzymic and non-enzymic antioxidants were decreased in the prostate cancer induced group and after treatment they were restored to near normal values. Histopathological examination showed significant changes such as hyperplastic prostatic acini and malignant proliferation of ductal epithelial cells in the prostate and seminal vesicle of carcinogen induced rats. After treatment with C. nurvala extract normal and flow-dilated ducts and acini with regular epithelial lining were observed in the prostate and partially hyperplastic and partially flattered epithelium were observed in seminal vesicles. CONCLUSION: The ethanolic extract of C. nurvala has significant anticancer activity evaluated by in an in vivo model.

Spectrally Efficient Multi-Carrier Modulation Using Gabor Transform

Non Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (NOFDM) systems make use of a transmission signal set which is not restricted to orthonormal bases unlike previous OFDM systems. The usage of non-orthogonal bases generally results in a trade-off between Bit Error Rate (BER) and receiver complexity. This paper studies the use of Gabor based on designing a Spectrally Efficient Multi-Carrier Modulation Scheme. Using Gabor Transform with a specific Gaussian envelope;we derive the expected BER-SNR performance. The spectral usage of such a NOFDM system when affected by a channel that imparts Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) is estimated. We compare the obtained results with an OFDM system and observe that with comparable BER performance, this system gives a better spectral usage. The effect of window length on spectral usage is also analyzed.

Essential oils(EOs)are more complex and comprise a number of volatile and natural bioactive compounds,which often used in food industries as the best *** review focuses on the impact of EOs and the roles of their major components in food manufacturing as natural preservatives with the related mechanisms of *** addition,the major bioactive molecules of different types of EOs and their pharmacological activities such as antioxidant,antifungal and antimicrobial effects on crop protection were also *** major compounds of EOs represent potential antioxidant,antimicrobial and antifungal activities through various *** types of EOs such as tea tree oil,lemon oil,clove oil,cinnamon oil and thyme oil from various traditional plants,have significantly showed better antimicrobial and antioxidant activities,and also effectively increased the shelf lives of the cereal products and increased the quality of food *** major groups of EOs such as terpenes and aromatic volatile compounds,play a key role in food safety without affecting the *** to their various activities including antioxidant and antimicrobial activities,EOs could be used as alternative preservatives to increase the shelf lives of cereals and crops.

AIM: To screen for the co-infection of hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected patients in southern India. METHODS: Five hundred consecutive HIV infected patients were screened for Hepatitis B Virus (HBsAg and HBV-DNA) and Hepatitis C virus (anti-HCV and HCV-RNA) using commercially available ELISA kits; HBsAg, HBeAg/ anti-HBe (Biorad laboratories, USA) and anti-HCV (Murex Diagnostics, Uk). The HBV-DNA PCR was performed to detect the surface antigen region (pre S-S). HCV-RNA was detected by RT-PCR for the detection of the constant 5' putative non-coding region of HCV. RESULTS: HBV co-infection was detected in 45/500 (9%) patients and HCV co-infection in 11/500 (2.2%) subjects. Among the 45 co-infected patients only 40 patients could be studied, where the detection rates of HBe was 55% (22/40), antiHBe was 45% (18/40) and HBV-DNA was 56% (23/40). Among 11 HCV co-infected subjects, 6 (54.5%) were anti-HCV and HCV RNA positive, while 3 (27.2%) were positive for anti-HCV alone and 2 (18%) were positive for HCV RNA alone. CONCLUSION: Since the principal routes for HIV transmission are similar to that followed by the hepatotropic viruses, as a consequence, infections with HBV and HCV are expected in HIV infected patients. Therefore, it would be advisable to screen for these viruses in all the HIV infected individuals and their sexual partners at the earliest.

Redox flow batteries are considered a promising technology for grid energy ***,capacity decay caused by crossover of active materials is a universal challenge for many flow battery systems,which are based on various *** this paper,using the vanadium redox flow battery as an example,we demonstrate a new gel polymer interface(GPI)consisting of crosslinked polyethyleneimine with a large amount of amino and carboxylic acid groups introduced between the positive electrode and the *** GPI functions as a key component to prevent vanadium ions from crossing the membrane,thus supporting stable long-term *** voltammetry(CV)and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)measurements were conducted to investigate the effect of GPI on the electrochemical properties of graphitic carbon electrodes(GCFs)and redox reaction of catholyte.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and ^(1)H nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)spectra demonstrated that the crosslinked GPI is chemically stable for 100 cycles without dissolution of polymers and swelling in the strong acidic *** from inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS),Fourier-transform infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy,and energy-dispersive X-ray(EDX)spectroscopy proved that the GPI is effective in maintaining the concentration of vanadium species in their respective half-cells,resulting in improved cycling stability because of it prevents active species from crossing the membrane and stabilizes the oxidation states of active species.
