Clinicopathological and oncological significance of persistent prostate-specific antigen after radical prostatectomy:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective:To investigate the association of persistently elevated prostate-specific antigen(PSA)after radical prostatectomy(RP)with clinicopathological features and long-term oncological prognosis for the development of a potential management ***:A systematic literature search was performed using PubMed and Web of Science up to June 2021 to identify the eligible studies focusing on understanding the impact of persistent PSA in patients who underwent RP for localized prostate ***-analyses were performed on parameters with available ***:A total of 32 RP studies were identified,of which 11 included 26719 patients with consecutive cohorts and the remaining 21 comprised 24177 patients with cohorts carrying specific *** the 11 studies with consecutive cohorts,the incidence of persistent PSA varied between 3.1%and 34.6%with a median of 11.0%.Meta-analyses revealed patients with persistent PSA consistently showed unfavorable clinicopathological features and a more than 3.5-fold risk of poorer biochemical recurrence,metastasis,and prostate cancer-specific mortality prognosis independently,when compared to patients with undetectable ***,cases with persistent PSA in different specific patient cohorts with a higher risk of prostate cancer also showed a trend of worse ***:We found that the frequency of persistent PSA was about 11.0%in consecutive RP *** PSA was significantly associated with unfavorable clinicopathological characteristics and worse oncological *** with persistent PSA after RP may benefit from early salvage treatment to delay or prevent biochemical recurrence,improving oncological outcomes for these *** prospective randomized controlled trials are warranted to understand optimal systemic therapy in these patients.

Recent progress in the physics and engineering design study for themodification programme of JT-60 is presented. In order to achieve a steady state high-βplasmaoperation, which is the dominant issue of this programme, physics design for the MHD control and thestability analysis is investigated. Engineering design and the R & D for the superconducting coils,irradiation shield are performed well towards the mission of programme.

Glaxo Laboratories, Bombay, have prepared a potent tetanus vaccine of 250 Lf as a substitute of the previous 5 Lf tetanus vaccine. The safety evaluation of the vaccine has been reported, but the teratogenic potential was not studied. In the experiment reported herein we have studied the teratogenic action of the vaccine in the progeny of rabbits. No congenital anomalies were observed.

Sequential treatment with doxorubicin and zoledronic acid has no additive effects in an aggressive model of established bone metastases

Aim: Bisphosphonates are used as an adjuvant treatment in breast cancer bone metastasis patients, often simultaneously with chemotherapeutic agents. Interestingly, their sequential combination has been reported to have synergistic anti-tumor effects on bone metastases in preclinical models. We studied the effects of doxorubicin (DOX) and zoledronic acid (ZOL) and their combination on established bone metastases in the MDA-MB-231(SA) GFP bone metastasis model. Methods: Tumor burden and osteolytic bone lesions were quantitated by fluorescence imaging and radiography, respectively. The mice were randomized in four groups receiving vehicle, DOX, ZOL or both DOX and ZOL in a sequential combination on day 14. Serum marker of osteoclast number was followed weekly, and blood ionized calcium was measured at sacrifice. Bone and tumor area, apoptosis and proliferation of tumor cells were analyzed from histological sections. Results: ZOL prevented hypercalcemia and osteolytic lesion progression, whereas DOX induced apoptosis in the MDA-MB-231(SA)GFP cells. However, neither of the treatments alone nor in sequential combination were able to reduce tumor burden in bone. Furthermore, no additive effects on tumor cell apoptosis were observed in the ;combination group. Conclusion: No additive effects in combination of DOX and ZOL were observed in this aggressive model of breast cancer bone metastasis.

Effects of corner modifications on wind loads and local pressures on walls of tall buildings

In this study, the aerodynamic characteristics of tall buildings with corner modifications (e.g., local wind force coefficients, mean pressure distributions, normalized power spectrum density, and extreme local pressure) were examined. Wind tunnel experiments were conducted to measure the wind pressures on building models with different heights and recessed corners of different ratios. At a wind direction of a = 0° (i.e., wind blowing on the front of a building), corner modifications effectively reduced wind forces in all cases. Specifically, small corner modification ratios reduced wind forces more effectively than their larger counterparts. However, corner modifications resulted in extreme local pressure on building surfaces. In addition, for small corner modification ratios, the probability of extreme local pressure occurring at a = 0° was high. This probability was also high for large corner modification ratios at a = 15° (i.e., wind blowing slightly obliquely on the front of a building) because wind blowing obliquely creates substantial vortex shedding on one side surface and extreme negative pressure over one building side surface. Results of computational fluid dynamic modeling were adopted to determine details of the aerodynamic characteristics of tall buildings with corner modifications.

Understanding Durability Problems with Dolerite in Roads in South Africa

Dolerite is one of the most widely used road pavement construction materials in South Africa and is classified as a basic crystalline rock. The variable performance of road pavements constructed with such rocks in South Africa has frequently been linked to the durability of the freshly crushed dolerite which can undergo rapid deterioration in service. This poor durability affects the life cycle of the road as they can fail prematurely. The prevailing conditions under which rapid deterioration of dolerite occurred on the road are somewhat contradictory. The objective of this study was to provide insight into what influences rapid deterioration in dolerite when used in the base course of road pavements. The evaluation was completed by conducting surveys, field investigations and laboratory experiments comprising mineralogical analyses and engineering tests. Surveys were done to identify the investigation sites. Field investigations comprise visual condition assessment of road pavement surface and pavement structure using test pits. Field investigations were followed by a sampling of material from the identified investigation sites for laboratory material testing. Laboratory testing included standard engineering soil tests and specialised techniques for mineralogical analysis. Two approaches for durability investigations were followed. For each approach, two samples were used (control sample and investigated sample), and the results of the sample investigated were compared with the control sample results. Findings from both approaches were compared. An interesting finding was that, contrary to conventional wisdom, not all of the dolerites investigated contained discernible smectite contents.

Analysis of Genotoxicity Induced by Food Dyes in Root Meristem of Salvia hispanica L.

Food dyes are chemicals either natural or synthetic that were used by humans to give attractive colors to numerous food products. Colorful food products may cause several health-related issues to us because they may be prepared through synthetic food dyes. The color which is intended to attract people to eat is given to them by the use of some artificial food dyes such as Erythrosine, Allura red, Indigostine, Tartrazine, Sunset yellow, etc. These artificial food dyes are synthetic chemicals that can cause numerous health-related problems if they were taken in by individuals more than the limited amount. Artificial food dyes are becoming very common in use in different ways to provide an attractive and soothing color to food products such as sweets, drinks, candies, etc. The food products we consume with very good and attractive colors are not as good for our health as they appear. Here in this study, we are observing the cytological effect of two different synthetic food dyes (Brilliant blue and Sunset yellow) in the root meristem of Salvia hispanica L. (Chia plant) which is a major source of α-linolenic acid, mainly omega 3 fatty acids and dietary fibers found in the seed. For this purpose, germinated seeds of Chia are in the germinator. After the emergence of the young roots, we have given the treatment of the respective dyes of 0.5%, 1%, 1.5% & 2% respectively with a control set. After treatment, the roots were fixed in Carnoy’s fixative and preserved in alcohol for further analysis. When the slides of the treated roots were prepared and analyzed we observed that numerous cytological abnormalities such as (stickiness, fragmentation, bridge, laggards, disorientation, etc.) were there in the root cells and the level of abnormalities are increasing with increasing treatment period due to the exposure of them to respective dyes. These results are enough to conclude that the consumption of these dyes is harmful to the health of humans.

Studies on Phylogenetic Relationship of Sheep Population in East and South of Central Asia

This paper was based on the Hu sheep in China, after collecting the same data about 9 Asia sheep populations and 5 European sheep (breeds in japan) populations. It clustered 15 populations in terms of the gene frequency of 10 loci and 33 allele in blood enzyme and other protein variations. The result of Hierarchy Clustering showed that the sheep populations in the East and South of Central Asia could be classified into three genetic groups: Mongolia sheep, South Asia sheep and European sheep, and the Hu sheep belonged to Mongolia sheep.
