Effect of interferon and ribavirin combined with amantadine in interferon and ribavirin non-responder patients with chronic hepatitis C (genotype 1)

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of amantadine plus interferonalpha and ribavirin in non-responder patients with chronic hepatitis ***: Twenty-six non-responder patients received the regimen of IFN-α-2a at a dose of 6 million units three times a week, 1 000-1 200 mg of ribavirin daily, and 200 mg of amantadine daily in divided doses over 48 wk. After the end of treatment, at the 72nd wk, a sustained viral response rate was ***: An early (after 12 wk of therapy) response was seen in 34.6% (9/26) of patients. Response rate at the 24th wk was 42.3% (11/26). End of treatment response (ETR) was 53.8% (14/26). Sustained viral response (SVR) was 42.3% (11/26). There was a statistically significant difference between 0 and 12 wk (P = 0.04), 0 and 24 wk (P = 0.01), 0 and 48 wk (P = 0.00), and 0 and 72 wk (P = 0.001). No patient had severe adverse effects during the ***: Combination regimen of interferon-α,ribavirin and amantadine can enhance sustained viral response on IFN-α and ribavirin non-responder patients with HCV. Triple therapy with amantadine should be evaluated in further studies.

BACkGROUND Chronic radiation proctopathy(CRP) occurs as a result of pelvic radiation therapy and is associated with formation of abnormal vasculature that may lead to persistent rectal bleeding. While incidence is declining due to refinement of radiation delivery techniques, CRP remains one of the major complications of pelvic radiation therapy and significantly affects patient quality of *** ablation(RFA) is an emerging treatment modality for eradicating abnormal vasculature associated with CRP. However, questions remain regarding CRP pathophysiology and optimal disease *** To study feasibility of optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA) for investigating subsurface vascular alterations in CRP and response to RFA *** Two patients with normal rectum and 8 patients referred for, or undergoing endoscopic RFA treatment for CRP were imaged with a prototype ultrahighspeed optical coherence tomography(OCT) system over 15 OCT/colonoscopy visits(2 normal patients, 5 RFA-na?ve patients, 8 RFA-follow-up visits). OCT and OCTA was performed by placing the OCT catheter onto the dentate line and rectum without endoscopic guidance. OCTA enabled depth-resolved microvasculature imaging using motion contrast from flowing blood, withoutrequiring injected dyes. OCTA features of normal and abnormal microvasculature were assessed in the mucosa and submucosa. In this study, an off grid wind-solar hybrid power generation system was established at Afyon kocatepe University to meet the energy need of lighting system of three different laboratories. It is planned to efficiently use the energy obtained from the designed hybrid power generation system. For this purpose, PIC 16F877 was used in controlling of lighting load of laboratories. The off-grid wind-solar hybrid power generation system consists of 570 W 24 V mono crystal solar panels, 600 W wind power generation system and accumulator groups. The load control circuit made with PIC 16F877 is designed in a manner that will control the lighting armature groups individually activate and deactivate the armature groups according to intensity of illumination in environment. Besides, separately from generation and storing units constituting the hybrid power generation system, data in kWh are recorded by means of software in 10 seconds intervals. With the obtained power generation and storing data, analyzing of power consumption data when the load control system in active or passive position is made. According to analysis results, with controlling of lighting load and using of energy obtained from off grid wind-solar hybrid power generation system, 20.6% energy saving has been ensured.

The flow properties of blood play significant roles in tissue perfusion by contributing to hydrodynamic resistance in blood vessels. These properties are influenced by pathophysiological processes, thereby increasing the clinical relevance of blood rheology information. There is well-established clinical evidence for impaired blood fluidity in humans of advanced age, including enhanced plasma and whole blood viscosity, impaired red blood cell (RBC) deformability and enhanced RBC aggregation. Increased plasma fibrinogen concentration is a common finding in many studies owing to the pro-inflammatory condition of aged individuals;this finding of increased fibrinogen concen-tration explains the higher plasma viscosity and RBC aggregation in elderly subjects. Enhanced oxidant stress in advanced age is also known to contribute to altered blood fluidity, with RBC deformability being an important determinant of blood viscosity. Several studies have shown that physical activity may improve the hemorheological picture in elderly subjects, yet well-designed observational and mechanistic studies are required to determine the specific effects of regular exercise on hemorheological parameters in healthy and older individuals.

Objective:Perirenal fat stranding(PFS)is linear areas of soft-tissue attenuation in the perirenal space on non-contrast computed *** present study aimed to investigate whether PFS is associated with infectious complications after ureterorenoscopy(URS)in patients with ureteral calculi in any ***:The data of 602 patients with ureteral stones who underwent URS were analyzed *** patients were divided into two groups as Group 1(PFS not detected)and Group 2(PFS detected).Gender,and age of patients,size,side,and location of the stone,operation time,double-J stent insertion status,perioperative ureter injury,postoperative infection after URS and related complications,and duration of hospital stay were ***:While PFS was not detected in 530 patients,PFS was detected in 72 *** mean age,male/female ratio,side and localization of the stones,operation time,and perioperative insertion of the double-J after lithotripsy were statistically similar(p>0.05).The median stone diameter was smaller in Group 2(9 mm vs.8 mm)(p=0.033).Fever was observed in 30 and 38 patients in Group 1 and Group 2,respectively(p=0.0001).Urinary tract infection was detected in 24 and 27 patients in Group 1 and Group 2,respectively(p=0.0001).The urosepsis did not occur in any patients in Group 1,whereas 8(11.1%)patients in Group 2 experienced urosepsis(p=0.0001).Conclusion:According to the results of the present study,patients with ureteral stones accompanied by PFS are much more prone to ureteral injuries and infectious complications such as urinary tract infection,fever,and sepsis after URS.

Structural and Electrical Properties of Niobium Doped Y0.6Gd0.4Ba2-xNbxCu3O7-ySuperconductors

Polycrystalline samples of Y0.6Gd0.4Ba2-xNbxCu3O7-y(YGBNCO) with different Nb contents (x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, and 0.25) were prepared using the usual solid state reaction technique. The structure for all samples was characterized by XRD and SEM. The electrical properties were measured by the FPP method in the temperature range from 70 to 130 k. The lattice constant of b remains almost unchanged and a and c increases with the increase of Nb content with x ≤ 0.10. The zero resistance transition temperature and Jc decrease with increasing Nb content. But superconductivity did not suppress. As the Nb content in the samples increases, it gives a diffused phase indicating a niobium perovskite phase and it is a small amount of unidentified phase.

Aim: Numerous non-surgical methods and surgical options are available for the solution of baldness in the practice. Technology provides mighty weapons in this field. Thus, individualized solutions are best carried out with well-trained and qualified practitioners. Here, a modification of follicular unit extraction, direct hair implantation is introduced with previously licensed unique pens. Methods: Follicular unit extraction and direct hair implantation methods were carried out in 207 hair transplantations between January and December of 2014. The nests for the grafts were created via pieces of hand-cut razor blade in follicular unit extraction. In addition, a new modification of follicular unit extraction, direct hair implantation, is done via pens that are produced for this purpose. Results: Thirty-eight direct hair implantations were performed in addition with 169 follicular unit extractions. An average number of 2973 grafts were transplanted. Mean operation time was calculated as 385 min. Conclusion: Hair transplantation is still the best solution for hair loss. In conjunction with the surgery, the addition of non-surgical interventions may give a better result to the patient. On the other hand, the promising results in the field of regenerative medicine with cell-based solutions may alter hair transplantation and change the options solely into this field.
