A study was done to determine the effect of best stacking sequence(position and orientation)on the mechanical properties,friction and wear response of hybrid *** main purpose of the study was to determine the best available stacking sequence for which the physical,mechanical and three body abrasive wear rate is *** for mechanical properties(tensile strength,flexural strength,inter laminar shear strength,impact strength and hardness)was done on glass-carbon hybrid *** composites were then subjected to test for three body abrasive wear on a designed experimental *** different factors(sliding velocity,fabric weight percentage,normal load,sliding distance and abrasive particle size)varied in steps to evaluate the friction and three body abrasive wear response of the *** design of experiment using Taguchi’s orthogonal array and analysis of variance(ANOVA)was applied to find out minimum specific wear *** results revealed the significance in arrangement of two different layers of fabric(glass and carbon)and the difference in properties obtained by *** Taguchi experimental analysis it has been observed that three body abrasive wear rate is minimum at 72 cm/s sliding velocity,30 wt.%fabric content,80 N normal load,90 m sliding distance and 125μm abrasive particle *** scanning electron microscope(SEM)studies revealed the dynamics of three‐body abrasive wear and underlying micro‐mechanisms that result in the analysis of three body abrasive wear.

The current study was designed to examine the protective efficacy of DNA vaccines based on gp63 and Hsp70 against murine visceral leishmaniasis. Inbred BALB/c mice were immunized subcutaneously twice at an interval of three weeks with pcDNA3.1 （＋） encoding T cell epitopes of gp63 and Hsp70 individually and in combination. Animals were challenged intracardially with 107 promastigotes ofLeishmania donovani 10 days post immunization and sacrificed 1,2 and 3 months post challenge. The immunized animals revealed a significant reduction （P 〈 0.05） in splenic and hepatic parasite burden as compared to the infected controls. Maximum reduction in parasite load （P 〈 0.05） was observed in animals treated with a combination ofpcDNA/gp63 and pcDNA/Hsp70. These animals also showed heightened DTH response, increased IgG2a, elevated Thl cytokines （IFN-γ and IL-2） and reduced IgG 1 and IL-10 levels. Thus, mice immunized with the cocktail vaccine exhibited significantly greater protection in comparison to those immunized with individual antigens.

The influence of atmospheric Hg on Hg contaminations in rice and paddy soil in the Xunyang Hg mining district,China

To date, the Xunyang mercury(Hg) mining district is the only ongoing large-scale Hg mining district in China. To understand the influence of Hg contamination mode from the Hg mining and smelting activities, 27 sampling sites in the Xunyang Hg mining district were chosen in this study. Total gaseous mercury(TGM) in ambient air was measured using a Lumex-RA915 automatic Hg analyzer in2011. Rice samples and soil samples from rhizosphere were collected systematically and simultaneously. Total Hg(THg) and methylmercury(Me Hg) concentrations in rice grain and soil samples and Hg speciation with modified sequential selective extractions were measured. The local environment was seriously polluted with Hg. The TGM(302 ± 376 ng·m-3, ranging from 24 to 2220 ng·m^(-3)) in the local ambient air, THg(28 ± 30 mg·kg^(-1), ranging from 0.31 to 121 mg·kg^(-1)) and Me Hg(2.3 ± 1.9 lg·kg^(-1),ranging from 0.24 to 8.9 lg·kg^(-1)) in soil samples were at the sample level with Hg contaminated area. The THg concentration(26 ± 16 lg·kg^(-1)ranging from 4.5 to 71 lg·kg^(-1)) in most of the rice grain samples clearly exceeds the threshold level(20 lg·kg^(-1)) in the Chinese national guidelines for cereals(NY 861-2004). The inorganic mercury(IHg)(9.1 ± 5.6 lg·kg^(-1), ranging from 1.2 to 24 lg·kg^(-1)) and Me Hg(14 ± 9.8 lg·kg^(-1), ranging from 2.1 to 59 lg·kg^(-1))concentration in rice grain samples were at the same level with Hg contaminated area. The main species of Hg in paddy soils reveal strong complex Hg and residue Hg. According to the correlation analysis, a Hg pollution mode from local Hg mining and smelting was hypothesized, including Hg emission, transportation, methylation, and uptake process.

Nepal’s geostrategic location brings Nepal both opportunities and challenges. The thesis intendsto review the exigencies of Nepal’s relations with China and India. It provides a briefintroduction to the geostrategic reality of the country and hence analyzes the impact of thegeographic difficulties of Nepal on its political economy, particularly in the context of changingregional power relations and broadly, in the contemporary international relations. The countryconfronts with limited options in its external relations, especially when socio-economic anddevelopment challenges are so daunting and political pathway is so demanding. Today Nepal stands at the cross road to take head way towards peace, stability, democracy anddevelopment. It has ceded the centuries old regime of Monarchy and heralded republicandemocracy in the country. The sky high hopes of about thirty million people have not yet foundsolid foundation of new democratic constitution and institutionalized peace in the country. Thepolitical changes have not yet been able to give people the real sense of change. Foreign policy of any country contains the elements of continuity and changes. But in case ofNepal it has to give continuity to more elements than to change them. Nepal’s geographiclocation is the corner stone of its foreign policy. Its two neighbors–China and India-would liketo be assured with their security interests served in Nepal. China and India have been competingwith each other and also competing for safeguarding their interests in Nepal. In addition, major powers of the world also would like to put eyes on China and India and, therefore, are interestedin Nepal. Objective: To analyze the protective efficacy of recombinant 78 kDa antigen of Leishmania donovani in combination with two adjuvants, that is, cationic liposomes or MPL-A against visceral leishmaniasis in BALB/c mice. Methods: The genomic DNA of promastigotes was isolated and 583 bp of T cell epitopes of gene encoding 78 k Da was amplified using specific primers. The amplified gene was cloned into p ET28 c, transformed into Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) and got expressed after IPTG induction. The recombinant protein was then purified using Ni-NTA and named r78. Three groups of mice were immunized with 10 μg of r78 plus MPL-A, r78 encapsulated in positively charged liposomes and control animals immunized with PBS. Two booster doses were given with the respective vaccine at an interval of 2 weeks each. Mice were challenged with 1×107 Leishmania promastigotes and sacrificed on different post infection/challenge days. Results: Immunization with r78 along with MPL-A and liposomeencapsulated r78 brought a significant reduction in parasite load. In comparison to the infected controls, the parasite load declined by 96.2% in mice immunized with r78 plus MPL-A and 97.23% in animals immunized with liposome-encapsulated r78. The immunized animals also exhibited profound DTH response. The serum antibody responses increased from 15 to 90 days post infection/challenge. Immunized animals showed greater IgG2 a levels and lesser Ig G1 levels in comparison to the infected controls. The splenocytes from immunized mice were cultured, stimulated with r78 and analyzed for cytokine profile. The levels of IL-2 and IFN-γ were greater in immunized animals as compared to control mice. Conclusions: The study proves that r78 in combination with suitable adjuvants is a potential vaccine candidate and may be instrumental in control of visceral leishmaniasis.

A 2000 Year Multi-Proxy Evidence of Natural/Anthropogenic Influence on Climate from the Southwest Coast of India

The last millennium climate reconstructions are complex and limit our understanding of the mechanisms behind environmental and climate variability. We present multi-proxy centennial-scale records from the Cherai, southwest India. The last 2000 cal yr AD record suggests a complex environmental condition that prevailed at the depositional site augmenting the role of natural as well as anthropogenic agents. Increased elemental variations and indices values indicate stronger weathering, presumably wetter conditions and intense precipitation. Provenance studies suggest diverse sources and the main composition fall close to the Charnockite and Gneissic composition. Multi-proxy data suggests that a shift towards wetter climatic conditions, which occurred from 910 to 1230 cal yr AD. The core also records a shift towards the drier conditions that started around 1230 cal yr AD with a loss in vegetation diversity. The pollution load index values suggest that the overall study area falls in moderate contamination levels, which are also substantiated with the diatom data indicating human influence in the natural habitat during the deposition time. The present study reveals that the enhanced Cd and As concentration is due to strong anthropogenic influence. We compared the multi-proxy record with other continental and marine palaeoclimatic records to explore global and/or regional trends in climate variability during the last 2000 years.

Aboveground biomass and carbon stock in the largest sacred grove of Manipur was estimated for trees with diameter [10 cm at 1.37 m *** aboveground biomass,carbon stock,tree density and basal area of the sacred grove ranged from 962.94 to 1130.79 Mg ha;,481.47 to 565.40 Mg ha;C,1240 to 1320 stem ha;and79.43 to 90.64 m;ha;,*** in diameter class of 30–40 cm contributed the highest proportion of aboveground biomass（22.50–33.73%）.The aboveground biomass and carbon stock in research area were higher than reported for many tropical and temperate forests,suggesting a role of spiritual forest conservation for carbon sink management.
