The application of jacked box tunnelling for underground passages has grown rapidly in recent years in *** this study,the design of an extreme shallow jacked box tunnel traversing the underlying metro tunnels was *** innovative additional soil filling above the ground surface was carried out to overcome the overlying-soil-carrying effect of the extreme shallow jacked box *** structural safety of metro tunnels during the jacking process was analyzed through in-situ *** indicated that the overlying-soil-carrying effect was successfully *** metro tunnels generally showed horizontal displacement towards the receiving shaft,uplift and horizontal stretch during the jacking *** stop of jacking machine in front of obstacles generally contributed to the decrease of horizontal displacement,uplift and horizontal stretch of metro *** largest horizontal displacement(1.3–1.6 mm),uplift(1.5 mm)and horizontal convergence(1.6–1.8 mm)generally occurred when the reception of jacking machine was completed,and they all met the requirement of 2 mm for this *** design and construction of this shallow jacked box tunnel project could provide references for future similar projects.

Unusual coastal ocean cooling in the northern South China Sea by a katabatic cold jet associated with Typhoon Mujigea(2015)

This study deals with a unusual cooling event after Typhoon Mujigea passed over the northern South China Sea(SCS) in October 2015. We analyze the satellite sea surface temperature(SST) time series from October 3 to 18,2015 and find that the cooling process in the coastal ocean had two different stages. The first stage occurred immediately after typhoon passage on October 3, and reached a maximum SST drop of –2℃ on October 7 as the usual cold wake after typhoon. The second stage or the unusual extended cooling event occurred after 7d of the typhoon passage, and lasted for 5d from October 10 to 15. The maximum SST cooling was –4℃ and occurred after 12d of typhoon passage. The mechanism analysis results indicate that after landing and moving northwestward to the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau(YGP), Typhoon Mujigea(2015) met the westerly wind front on October 5. The lowpressure and positive-vorticity disturbances to the front triggered meridional air flow and low-pressure trough,thus induced a katabatic cold jet downward from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP) passing through the YGP to the northwestern SCS. The second cooling reached the maximum SST drop 4d later after the maximum air temperature drop of –9℃ on October 11. The simultaneous air temperature and SST observations at three coastal stations reveal that it is this katabatic cold jet intrusion to lead the unusual SST cooling event.

Using the 25-h continuing hydrographic observations at three successive stations in February 2012 and the mooring time series of current observations from January to March 2015,the tidal currents and tidal energy fluxes in the coastal waters east of Hainan Island in the northwestern South China Sea were *** diurnal and semidiurnal(using K_(1) and M_(2) as proxies,respectively)tidal currents and associated isopycnal undulations were derived with harmonic *** show that the velocities of the diurnal and semidiurnal tides derived from the 25-h observations are comparable to those from the mooring *** semi-major axes of the tidal ellipses were O(4-7 cm/s)for barotropic tides and O(2-4 cm/s)for baroclinic *** directions were in NE-SW at deeper stations to N-S at the shallowest station for the diurnal tide and from NW-SE to NE-SW for the semidiurnal *** the diurnal and semidiurnal isopycnal fl uctuations reached O(5 m),O(8 m),and O(10 m)at the cross-shelf stations(H03,H04,and H05)from 35 m,45 m,to 55 m,respectively,showing insignifi cant vertical variation,and the barotropic signals were *** baroclinic diurnal tide showed fi rst-mode structures at H03-05,as does the semidiurnal tide at *** semidiurnal tide at H04 and H05 exhibited higher-mode *** time series of both the alongshore and cross-shore components reveal the vertically propagation features of the baroclinic tidal phase and *** calculated horizontal energy fl uxes of the diurnal and semidiurnal internal tides decreased from O(0.1 W/m)at H05 to O(0.01 W/m)at H03,implying a propagation and dissipation of energy from off shore to inshore.

The turbulent mixing in the upwelling region east of Hainan Island in the South China Sea is analyzed based on in situ microstructure observations made in July 2012. During the observation, strong upwelling appears in the coastal waters, which are 3℃ cooler than the offshore waters and have a salinity 1.0 greater than that of the offshore waters. The magnitude of the dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy ε in the upwelling region is O（10–9 W/kg）, which is comparable to the general oceanic dissipation. The inferred eddy diffusivity Kρ is O（10–6 m2/s）, which is one order of magnitude lower than that in the open ocean. The values are elevated to Kρ≈O（10–4 m2/s） near the boundaries. Weak mixing in the upwelling region is consistent with weak instability as a result of moderate shears versus strong stratifications by the joint influence of surface heating and upwelling of cold *** validity of two fine-scale structure mixing parameterization models are tested by comparison with the observed dissipation rates. The results indicate that the model developed by Mac Kinnon and Gregg in 2003 provides relatively better estimates with magnitudes close to the observations. Mixing parameterization models need to be further improved in the coastal upwelling region.

Cationic hydrogels have received great attention to control eutrophication and recycle *** this study,a type of La(OH)_(3) loaded magnetic MAPTAC-based cationic hydrogel(La(OH)_(3)@MMCH)was developed as a potential adsorbent for enhanced phosphate removal from aqueous ***(OH)_(3)@MMCH exhibited high adsorption capacity of 105.72±5.99 mg P/g,and reached equilibrium within 2 ***(OH)_(3)@MMCH could perform effectively in a wide pH range from 3.0 to 9.0 and in the presence of coexisting ions(including SO_(4)^(2-),Cl^(-),NO_(3)^(-),HCO_(3)^(-),SiO_(4)^(4-) and HA).The adsorption-desorption experiment indicated that La(OH)_(3)@MMCH could be easily regenerated by using NaOH-NaCl as the desorption agent,and 73.3%adsorption capacity remained after five ***,La(OH)_(3)@MMCH was employed to treat surface water with phosphate concentration of 1.90 mg/L and showed great removal efficiency of 95.21%.Actually,MMCH showed high surface charge density of 34.38-59.38 meq/kg in the pH range from 3.0 to 11.0 and great swelling ratio of 3014.57%within 24 h,indicating that MMCH could produce the enhanced Donnan membrane effect to pre-permeate ***,the bifunctional structure of La(OH)_(3)@MMCH enabled it to capture phosphate through electrostatic attraction and ligand *** the results prove that La(OH)_(3)@MMCH is a promising adsorbent for eutrophication control and phosphate recovery.

The compound[(CH3)2 CH-C3 H17 N][CoBr4](1)based on quinuclidine derivatives was achieved by the solution synthetic method and characterized by elemental analysis,infrared spectroscopy,single-crystal X-ray structural analysis and dielectric measurement,***-temperature single-crystal X-ray diffraction suggested that the compound unde rwent the phase transition from the space group C2/c to *** polarization curve was measured using the Sawyer-Tower *** structural phase transitions of 1 was ascribed to the distortion of a[(CH3)2 CH-C3 H17N]2+cation from this inorganicorganic hybrid material[(CH3)2 CH-C3 H17N][CoBr4].The strong change in dielectric anomalies makes compound 1 a suitable candidate for promising switchable dielectric *** work represents a feasible strategy thought for the targeted harvesting of low temperature ferroelectrics.

Bimetallic oxides composites have received an increasing attention as promising adsorbents for aqueous phosphate (P) removal in recent years. In this study, a novel magnetic composite MZLCO was prepared by hybridizing amorphous Zr-La (carbonate) oxides (ZLCO) with nano-FeOthrough a one-pot solvothermal method for efficient phosphate adsorption. Our optimum sample of MZLCO-45 exhibited a high Langmuir maximum adsorption capacity of 96.16 mg P/g and performed well even at low phosphate concentration. The phosphate adsorption kinetics by MZLCO-45 fitted well with the pseudo-second-order model, and the adsorption capacity could reach 79% of the ultimate value within the first 60 min. The phosphate adsorption process was highly p H-dependent, and MZLCO-45 performed well over a wide p H range of 2.0-8.0. Moreover, MZLCO-45 showed a strong selectivity to phosphate in the presence of competing ions (Cl^(-), NO_(3)^(-), SO_(4)^(2-), HCO_(3)^(-), Ca^(2+), and Mg^(2+)) and a good reusability using the eluent of Na OH/Na Cl mixture, then 64% adsorption capacity remained after ten recycles. The initial 2.0 mg P/L in municipal wastewater and surface water could be efficiently reduced to below 0.1mg P/L by 0.07 g/L MZLCO-45, and the phosphate removal efficiencies were 95.7% and 96.21%, respectively. Phosphate adsorption mechanisms by MZLCO-45 could be attributed to electrostatic attraction and the inner-sphere complexation via ligand exchange forming Zr/La-O-P, -OH and CO_(3)^(2-)groups on MZLCO-45 surface played important roles in the ligand exchange process. The existence of oxygen vacancies could accelerate the phosphate absorption rate of the MZLCO-45 composites.

While people from Western countries do not always understand of the underlying cultural values of most Chinese stories,the Hua Mulan story has gained significant recognition from Western ***,it would be quite beneficial if we could understand the key elements that have contributed to the success of the Hua Mulan story so that we can employ similar elements in other intercultural communication programs and promote the communication and dissemination of cultures between China and the rest of the *** to the findings from the interviews of 6,130 respondents from 107 countries,we found that the Hua Mulan story gains global acceptance because it represents a story of“a hero with a thousand faces,”which embodies the integration of Chinese traditions and contemporary spirit through sharing a global meaning while responding to various culturally common *** key cultural value dimensions are responsible for this Chinese story’s cross-cultural affinity and influence,which helped it win recognition and empathy *** five key cultural value dimensions are loyalty and patriotism,the courage to take responsibility,compatibility of individualism and collectivism,respondence to the multicultural appeal,and hero *** dimensions are then generalized as the value identity orientation grounded in a Global Shared Meaning(GSM)in this study.
