Development and first evaluation of an attractant impregnated adhesive tape against blood-sucking flies

Stable flies are one of the most important arthropod pests of livestock that reduce cattle weight gain and milk production leading to annual economic losses in excess of$2 billion to the US cattle *** host-seeking behavior is primarily mediated by associated odors from stable fly larval development environments and host *** present paper reports the development and evaluation of attractant-impregnated adhesive tapes to reduce stable fly attacks on *** bioassays showed that only m-cresol impregnated adhesive tapes caught significantly more stable flies(16±1)than the control tape without attractant added(7±1),with a 77%fly recapture ***-impregnated adhesive tapes deployed in cattle feedlots showed significant impacts in reducing fly population,with a total of one million stable flies captured over a period of three weeks(mean catches from 57596 to 102088 stable flies per trap per week).It further relieved cattle stress with a significant reduction of biting fly avoidance behavior,(6±0.4 cows observed with tail wagging in control vs.3±0.4 from the trap-deployed).The efficacy of the developed tapes lasted up to 1-week longevity,although 70%of m-cresol was released starting from the second *** m-cresol impregnated adhesive tape provided an 80%reduction in cattle stress due to stable fly *** is the first report of a technology developed by integrating an attractant compound into an adhesive material on a plastic film with demonstrated effectiveness in trapping biting flies that attack livestock animals.

A novel optical emission spectroscopy method for diagnostics of contribution of different ionization mechanisms and flux of ions in different valences in discharge channel of a Hall thruster

The mass application of Hall thrusters poses the need for a diagnostic method of ionization mechanism in the discharge channel to boost the iteration and optimization of thruster *** work presents an Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) method for diagnostics of the contribution of different ionization mechanisms and the flux of ions in different valences in the discharge channel of a Hall *** emission spectra in the discharge channel are analyzed by jointly utilizing a collisional-radiative model,an ionization-excitation model,and a flux-conservation *** is found that the intensities of some spectral lines can be converted into the reaction rates of collision processes,e.g.,electron-induced excitation and ionization *** latter can further be used to determine the evolutions of particle fluxes by utilizing the conservation law of *** novel method is demonstrated on a kilo-watt Hall *** evolutions of several parameters are determined using this method along the discharge channel,including the ionization rates of different mechanisms,particle fluxes,particle densities,and particle *** novel method can be further developed by being jointly utilized with spectral imaging and tomography techniques,enabling diagnostics of multi-dimensional distributions of the above-mentioned parameters in the discharge channel and near-field plume.

Probing inelastic signatures of dark matter detection via polarized nucleus

We investigate the inelastic signatures of dark matter-nucleus interactions,explicitly focusing on the ramifications of polarization,dark matter splitting,and the Migdal *** detection experiments,crucial for testing the existence of dark matter,encounter formidable obstacles,such as indomitable neutrino backgrounds and elusive determination of dark matter *** overcome these challenges,we explore the potential of polarized-target dark matter scattering,examining the impact of nonvanishing mass splitting,and the role of the Migdal effect in detecting dark *** analysis demonstrates the valuable utility of the polarized triple-differential event rate as an effective tool for examining inelastic dark *** enables us to investigate angular and energy dependencies,providing valuable insights into the scattering process.

In recent years,research has focused heavily on the investigation of functionalized ammonium polyphosphate(APP)flame retardants to improve the fire safety of epoxy resins(EP).The reason for this is the dual nature of APP's performance in fire protection of *** article provides a comprehensive overview of the advances in the use of functionalized APP flame retardants to improve the fire resistance of EP *** then presents the improvement of the modification of the functionalized APP flame retardants in terms of the hydrophobicity,compatibility and catalytic ability of the flame retardants,as well as the effects on the fire resistance,heat resistance,smoke reduction and mechanical properties of the EP *** the summary and comparison of the relevant studies,it is clear that the functionalized APP flame retardants can effectively improve the fire safety of EP composites and offset the adverse effects of APP in EP flame retardant *** addition,APP flame retardants can obtain various excellent functions through the use of materials with different properties,and the interaction between APP and materials can also lead to more efficient fire ***,the current problem is to find ways to streamline the process and minimise the costs associated with functionalized APP flame retardants,as well as to use them effectively in industrial *** hope that this review can provide valuable hints and insights for the practical application of functionalized APP in EP and perspectives for future research.

The lithium(Li)metal anode is widely regarded as an ideal anode material for high-energy-density ***,uncontrolled Li dendrite growth often leads to unfavorable interfaces and low Coulombic efficiency(CE),limiting its broader ***,an ether-based electrolyte(termed FGN-182)is formulated,exhibiting ultra-stable Li metal anodes through the incorporation of LiFSI and LiNO3 as dual *** synergistic effect of the dual salts facilitates the formation of a highly robust SEI film with fast Li+transport ***,Li||Cu half cells exhibit an average CE reaching up to 99.56%.In particular,pouch cells equipped with high-loading lithium cobalt oxide(LCO,3 mAh cm^(-2))cathodes,ultrathin Li chips(25μm),and lean electrolytes(5 g Ah-1)demonstrate outstanding cycling performance,retaining 80%capacity after 125 *** address the gas issue in the cathode under high voltage,cathode additives 1,3,6-tricyanohexane is incorporated with FGN-182;the resulting high-voltage LCO||Li(4.4 V)pouch cells can cycle steadily over 93 *** study demonstrates that,even with the use of ether-based electrolytes,it is possible to simultaneously achieve significant improvements in both high Li utilization and electrolyte tolerance to high voltage by exploring appropriate functional additives for both the cathode and anode.

Optimal Operation Strategy Analysis with Scenario Generation Method Based on Principal Component Analysis,Density Canopy,and K-medoids for Integrated Energy Systems

The operation of integrated energy systems(IESs)is confronted with great challenges for increasing penetration rate of renewable energy and growing complexity of energy *** generation is one of ordinary methods to alleviate the system uncertainties by extracting several typical scenarios to represent the original high-dimensional *** paper proposes a novel representative scenario generation method based on the feature extraction of panel *** original high-dimensional data are represented by an aggregated indicator matrix using principal component analysis to preserve temporal ***,the aggregated indicator matrix is clustered by an algorithm combining density canopy and *** with the proposed scenario generation method,an optimal operation model of IES is established,where the objective is to minimize the annual operation costs considering carbon trading ***,case studies based on the data of Aachen,Germany in 2019 are *** results indicate that the adjusted rand index(ARI)and silhouette coefficient(SC)of the proposed method are 0.6153 and 0.6770,respectively,both higher than the traditional methods,namely K-medoids,K-means++,and density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise(DBSCAN),which means the proposed method has better *** error between optimal operation results of the IES obtained by the proposed method and all-year time series benchmark value is 0.1%,while the calculation time is reduced from 11029 s to 188 s,which verifies that the proposed method can be used to optimize operation strategy of IES with high efficiency without loss of accuracy.

Partial Collapsing Degeneration of Floer Trajectories and Adiabatic Gluing

In the present paper,we study partial collapsing degeneration of Hamiltonian-perturbed Floer trajectories for an adiabatic ε-family and its reversal adiabatic gluing,as the prototype of the partial collapsing degeneration of 2-dimensional(perturbed)j-holomorphic maps to 1-dimensional gradient *** consider the case when the Floer equations are S^(1)-invariant on parts of their domains whose adiabatic limit has positive length as ε→0,which we call thimble-flow-thimble *** main gluing theorem we prove also applies to the case with Lagrangian boundaries such as in the problem of recovering holomorphic disks out of pearly *** particular,our gluing theorem gives rise to a new direct proof of the chain isomorphism property between the Morse-Bott version of Lagrangian intersection Floer complex of L by Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono and the pearly complex of L Lalonde and *** also provides another proof of the present authors’earlier proof of the isomorphism property of the PSS map without involving the target rescaling and the scale-dependent gluing.

Background:Prolonged sitting and reduced physical activity lead to low energy ***,little is known about the joint impact of daily sitting time and physical activity on body fat *** investigated the independent and joint associations of daily sitting time and physical activity with body fat among ***:This was a cross-sectional analysis of *** representative data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey2011-2018 among adults aged 20 years or *** sitting time and leisure-time physical activity(LTPA)were self-reported using the Global Physical Activity *** fat(total and trunk fat percentage)was determined via dual X-ray ***:Among 10,808 adults,about 54.6%spent 6 h/day or more sitting;more than one-half reported no LTPA(inactive)or less than 150 min/week LTPA(insufficiently active)with only 43.3%reported 150 min/week or more LTPA(active)in the past *** fully adjusting for sociodemographic data,lifestyle behaviors,and chronic conditions,prolonged sitting time and low levels of LTPA were associated with higher total and trunk fat percentages in both *** stratifying by LTPA,the association between daily sitting time and body fat appeared to be stronger in those who were inactive/insuufficiently *** the joint analyses,inactive/insuufficiently active adults who reported sitting more than 8 h/day had the highest total(female:3.99%(95%confidence interval(95%CI):3.09%-4.88%);male:3.79%(95%CI:2.75%-4.82%))and trunk body fat percentages(female:4.21%(95%CI:3.09%-5.32%);male:4.07%(95%CI:2.95%-5.19%))when compared with those who were active and sitting less than 4 h/***:Prolonged daily sitting time was associated with increased body fat among *** higher body fat associated with 6 h/day sitting may not be offset by achieving recommended levels of physical activity.
