Insect-based agri-food waste valorization:Agricultural applications and roles of insect gut microbiota

Meeting the demands of the growing population requires increased food and feed production,leading to higher levels of agri-food *** this type of waste seriously threatens public health and the environment,novel approaches to waste management should be *** have been proposed as efficient agents for biorefining waste,producing biomass that can be used for commercial ***,challenges in achieving optimal outcomes and maximizing beneficial results *** symbionts associated with insects are known to have a critical role in the development,fitness,and versatility of insects,and as such,they can be utilized as targets for the optimization of agri-food waste insect-based biorefinery *** review discusses insect-based biorefineries,focusing on the agricultural applications of edible insects,mainly as animal feed and organic *** also describe the interplay between agri-food waste-utilizing insects and associated microbiota and the microbial contribution in enhancing insect growth,development,and involvement in organic waste bioconversion *** potential contribution of insect gut microbiota in eliminating pathogens,toxins,and pollutants and microbe-mediated approaches for enhancing insect growth and the bioconversion of organic waste are also *** present review outlines the benefits of using insects in agri-food and organic waste biorefinery systems,describes the roles of insect-associated microbial symbionts in waste bioconversion processes,and highlights the potential of such biorefinery systems in addressing the current agri-food waste-related challenges.

Micro-Locational Fine Dust Prediction Utilizing Machine Learning and Deep Learning Models

Given the increasing number of countries reporting degraded air quality,effective air quality monitoring has become a critical issue in today’s ***,the current air quality observatory systems are often prohibitively expensive,resulting in a lack of observatories in many regions within a ***,a significant problem arises where not every region receives the same level of air quality *** disparity occurs because some locations have to rely on information from observatories located far away from their regions,even if they may be the closest available *** address this challenge,a novel approach that leverages machine learning and deep learning techniques to forecast fine dust concentrations was ***,continuous location features in the form of latitude and longitude values were incorporated into our *** utilizing a comprehensive dataset comprising weather conditions,air quality measurements,and location properties,various machine learning models,including Random Forest Regression,XGBoost Regression,AdaBoost Regression,and a deep learning model known as Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)were *** experimental results demonstrated that the LSTM model outperforms the other models,achieving the best score with a root mean squared error of 23.48 in predicting fine dust(PM10)concentrations on an hourly ***,the fact that incorporating location properties,such as longitude and latitude values,enhances the overall quality of the regression models was ***,the implications and contributions of our research were *** implementing our approach,the cost associated with relying solely on existing observatories can be substantially *** reduction in costs can pave the way for economically efficient fine dust observation systems,ensuring more widespread and accurate air quality monitoring across different regions.

Investigation of Refractory Bricks and Oxide Materials Heated in Hydrogen Reduction Conditions

This study aims to provide the basic knowledge for furnace refractory design by investigating refractory property changes occurred in a hydrogen *** refractory bricks are thermodynamically stable in a hydrogen atmosphere at 1100°C,we tried to find out the minute *** this experiment,a refractory brick was prepared by andalusite,mullite chamotte,and clay as raw materials and heated to 1100°C in a 100%hydrogen atmosphere for 72 *** was found that the strength of the brick was decreased and the color was changed to black by the reduction of *** in addition,this study covered research on the slaking risk of MgO raw materials because the minimum temperature is expected to 400°C in fluidized reduction furnaces unlike shaft furnaces.

The increasing demand for hydrogen energy to address environmental issues and achieve carbon neutrality has elevated interest in green hydrogen production,which does not rely on fossil *** various hydrogen production technologies,anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer(AEMWE)has emerged as a next-generation technology known for its high hydrogen production efficiency and its ability to use non-metal ***,this technology faces significant challenges,particularly in terms of the membrane durability and low ionic *** address these challenges,research efforts have focused on developing membranes with a new backbone structure and anion exchange groups to enhance durability and ionic ***,the super-acid-catalyzed condensation(SACC)synthesis method stands out due to its user convenience,the ability to create high molecular weight(MW)polymers,and the use of oxygen-tolerant organic *** the synthesis of anion exchange membranes(AEMs)using the SACC method began in 2015,and despite growing interest in this synthesis approach,there remains a scarcity of review papers focusing on AEMs synthesized using the SACC *** review covers the basics of SACC synthesis,presents various polymers synthesized using this method,and summarizes the development of these polymers,particularly their building blocks including aryl,ketone,and anion exchange *** systematically describe the effects of changes in the molecular structure of each polymer component,conducted by various research groups,on the mechanical properties,conductivity,and operational stability of the *** review will provide insights into the development of AEMs with superior performance and operational stability suitable for water electrolysis applications.

Core-shell heterostructure by coupling layered ReS_(2) with Co_(9)S_(8) nanocubes for boosted oxygen evolution reaction

The controllable morphology and composition of catalysts are crucial to improving the electrocatalytic activity of oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Herein,we construct a bimetallic heterostructure by sulfidation and hydrothermal methods,and the layered ReS_(2)is vertically aligned on Prussian blue-derived hollow Co_(9)S_(8)nanocubes(Co_(9)S_(8)@ReS_(2)).The core-shell structure of Co_(9)S_(8)@ReS_(2)can effectively prevent the restacking of layered ReS_(2),expose the abundant surface area and improve the utilization of electrocatalytic sites,resulting in fast electrolyte diffusion and charge transfer during *** to the synergistic effect of the core-shell morphology and the formed bimetallic heterostructure,Co_(9)S_(8)@ReS_(2)exhibits excellent catalytic OER *** 10 mA/cm^(2),only 288 mV of overpotential is required with the Tafel slope of 73.3 mV/dec for Co_(9)S_(8)@ReS_(2),which are both lower than that of Co_(9)S_(8)and ReS_(2).Meanwhile,Co_(9)S_(8)@ReS_(2)exhibits high catalytic stability and low charge transfer resistance and the boosted active sites are confirmed by density functional *** work provides a rational design of the OER catalysts by constructing the bimetallic heterostructure.

ESR2–HDA6 complex negatively regulates auxin biosynthesis to delay callus initiation in Arabidopsis leaf explants during tissue culture

Plants exhibit an astonishing ability to regulate organ regeneration upon *** of leaf explants promotes the biosynthesis of indole-3-acetic acid(IAA),which is polar-transported to excised regions,where cell fate transition leads to root founder cell specification to induce de novo root *** regeneration capacity of plants has been utilized to develop in vitro tissue culture ***,we report that IAA accumulation near the wounded site of leaf explants is essential for callus formation on 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D)-rich callus-inducing medium(CIM).Notably,a high concentration of 2,4-D does not compensate for the action of IAA because of its limited efflux;rather,it lowers IAA biosynthesis via a negative feedback mechanism at an early stage of in vitro tissue culture,delaying callus *** auxin negative feedback loop in CIM-cultured leaf explants is mediated by an auxin-inducible APETALA2 transcription factor,ENHANCER OF SHOOT REGENERATION 2(ESR2),along with its interacting partner HISTONE DEACETYLASE 6(HDA6).The ESR2–HDA6 complex binds directly to,and removes the H3ac mark from,the YUCCA1(YUC1),YUC7,and YUC9 loci,consequently repressing auxin biosynthesis and inhibiting cell fate transition on 2,4-D-rich *** findings indicate that negative feedback regulation of auxin biosynthesis by ESR2 and HDA6 interferes with proper cell fate transition and callus initiation.

Pre-polymerized vinyl trimethoxy silane(PVTMS)@MWCNT nano-aerogel system was constructed via radical polymerization,sol-gel transition and supercritical CO_(2)*** fabricated organic-inorganic hybrid PVTMS@MWCNT aerogel structure shows nano-pore size(30-40 nm),high specific surface area(559 m^(2)g^(−1)),high void fraction(91.7%)and enhanced mechanical property:(1)the nano-pore size is beneficial for efficiently blocking thermal conduction and thermal convection via Knudsen effect(beneficial for infrared(IR)stealth);(2)the heterogeneous interface was beneficial for IR reflection(beneficial for IR stealth)and MWCNT polarization loss(beneficial for electromagnetic wave(EMW)attenuation);(3)the high void fraction was beneficial for enhancing thermal insulation(beneficial for IR stealth)and EMW impedance match(beneficial for EMW attenuation).Guided by the above theoretical design strategy,PVTMS@MWCNT nano-aerogel shows superior EMW absorption property(cover all Ku-band)and thermal IR stealth property(ΔT reached 60.7℃).Followed by a facial combination of the above nano-aerogel with graphene film of high electrical conductivity,an extremely high electromagnetic interference shielding material(66.5 dB,2.06 mm thickness)with superior absorption performance of an average absorption-to-reflection(A/R)coefficient ratio of 25.4 and a low reflection bandwidth of 4.1 GHz(A/R ratio more than 10)was experimentally obtained in this work.
