AIM:To investigate the clinical characteristics of left primary epiploic appendagitis and to compare them with those of left colonic ***:We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records and radiologic images of the patients who presented with left-sided acute abdominal pain and had computer tomography(CT) performed at the time of presentation showing radiological signs of left primary epiploic appendagitis(PEA) or left acute colonic diverticulitis(ACD) between January 2001 and December 2011. A total of 53 consecutive patients were enrolled and evaluated. We also compared the clinical characteristics,laboratory findings,treatments,and clinical results of left PEA with those of left ***:Twenty-eight patients and twenty-five patients were diagnosed with symptomatic left PEA and ACD,respectively. The patients with left PEA had focal abdominal tenderness on the left lower quadrant(82.1%). On CT examination,most(89.3%) of the patients with left PEA were found to have an oval fatty mass with a hyperattenuated ring sign. In cases of left ACD,the patients presented with a more diffuse abdominal tenderness throughout the left side(52.0%vs 14.3%; P = 0.003). The patients with left ACD had fever and rebound tenderness more often than those with left PEA(40.0% vs 7.1%,P = 0.004; 52.0% vs14.3%,P = 0.003,respectively). Laboratory abnormalities such as leukocytosis were also more frequently observed in left ACD(52.0% vs 15.4%,P = 0.006).CONCLUSION:If patients have left-sided localized abdominal pain without associated symptoms or laboratory abnormalities,clinicians should suspect the diagnosis of PEA and consider a CT scan.

The below-cloud aerosol scavenging process by precipitation is one of the most important mechanisms to remove aerosols from the *** to its complexity and dependence on both aerosol and raindrop sizes,wet scavenging process has been poorly treated,especially during the removal of fine *** makes the numerical simulation of below-cloud scavenging in large-scale aerosolmodels *** consider the slip effects of submicron particles,a simplified expression for the diffusion scavenging was developed by approximating the Cunningham slip correction *** derived analytic solution was parameterized as a simple power function of rain intensity under the assumption of the lognormal size distribution of *** resultant approximated expression was compared to the observed data and the results of previous studies including a 3D atmospheric chemical transport model *** with the default GEOS-Chem coefficient of 0.00106R0.61 and the observation-based coefficient of 0.0144R0.9268,the coefficient of a and b in∧m=aRb spread in the range of 0.0002-0.1959 for a and 0.3261-0.525 for b over a size distribution of GSD of 1.3–2.5 and a geometric mean diameter of 0.01-2.5μ***,this study showed that the scavenging coefficient varies widely by orders of magnitude according to the size distribution of particles and rain *** study also demonstrated that the obtained simplified expression could consider the theoretical approach of aerosol *** proposed analytic approach showed that results can be effectively applied for reduced computational burden in atmospheric modeling.

FT, a mem- ber of the phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein （PEBP） family, functions as a florigen or a component of florigen. AIM:To evaluate clinical validity of the compression anastomosis ring(CARTM27) anastomosis in left-sided colonic resection. METHODS:A non-randomized prospective data collection was performed for patients undergoing an elective left-sided colon resection,followed by an anastomosis using the CARTM27 between November 2009 and January *** criteria of the use of the CARTM27 were anastomoses between the colon and at or above the intraperitoneal *** primary short-term clinical endpoint,rate of anastomotic leakage,and other clinical outcomes,including intraand postoperative complications,length of operation time and hospital stay,and the ring elimination time were evaluated. Herein, we report a simple and effective preparation of ultrafine CNFs （u-CNFs） with high surface area via electrospinning of two immiscible polymers [polyacrylonitrile （PAN） and poly（methyl methacry- late）（PMMA）] followed by calcination at high temperature in an inert atmosphere. Various electrospinning conditions were optimized in detail. Four different kinds of PAN/PMMA ratios （10/0, 7：3, 5：5 and 3：7） were chosen and found that the PAN/PMMA ratio of 3：7 （PAN/PMMA-3：7） is the optimum one. BET anal- ysis showed the specific surface area of the u-CNFs-3：7 was 46Z57 m2/g with an excellent pore volume （1.15 cms g-l） and an average pore size （9.48 nm）： it is about 25 times higher than the conventional CNFs （c-CNFs）. TEM and FE-SEM images confirmed the ultrafine structure of the CNFs with a thinner fiber di- ameter of-50 nm. The graphitic nature and atomic arrangement of the u-CNFs were investigated by Raman and XPS analyses. For the supercapacitor application, unlike the common electrode preparation methods, the u-CNFs-3：7 was used without any activation, chemical or mechanical modifications. The u-CNFs- 3：7 showed a better specific capacitance of 86 Fig in 1 mol/L 1-12S04 when compared to pure CNFs. The excellent physicochemical properties make the u-CNFs-3：7 an alternative choice to the existing CNFs for the supercapacitors.
