High rigidity twenty-high Sendzimir mills （ZRMs） are widely used for rolling stainless steels, silicon sheets, etc. A ZRM uses a small diameter work roll to produce massive rolling forces. Since a work roll with a small diameter can be bent easily, strips often have complex shapes with mixed quarter and deep edge waves in the shape of plates. In order to solve this problem, fuzzy neural network controls are generally used for shape： recognition in ZRM control systems. Among various neural network types, the multi-layer perceptron （MLP） is typically used in current ZRMs. However, an MLP causes the loss of a large amount of shape recognition data. To improve the shape recognition per- formance of ZRM control systems, echo state networks （ESNs） are proposed to be used. Through simulation re- sults, it is found that shape recognition performance could be improved using the proposed ESN method.

Objective： To investigate whether the dried root of Phellodendron amurense Ruprecht（Phellodendri cortex; PC） extract improves arthritic symptoms through anti-inflammatory and immune-modulatory effects in collagen-induced arthritis in mice. Methods： Rheumatoid arthritis（RA） was induced in male DBA/1 mice by immunization with type Ⅱ collagen（ColⅡ）. CIA mice were divided into 5 groups（n=10 per a group） with normal, CIA control, PC extract（50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg）-treated, and meloxicam（50 mg/kg）-treated as the reference drug. The PC extract or meloxicam were administered orally in CIA mice once a day for 14 days after arthritis induction. Arthritic score, levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a antibody, prostaglandin E2（PGE2）, tumor necrosis factor（TNF）-α, and interleukin（IL）-17 in the sera of CIA mice were measured. Histopathological changes in the ankle joints of CIA mice were also analyzed by staining with hematoxylin and eosin（H and E）, safranin-O and immunohistochemistry using anti-TNF-α and anti-IL-17 antibodies. Results： The arthritic score was increased in CIA mice in a time-dependent manner, as were the serum levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a antibody, PGE2, TNF-α, and IL-17. However, the oral administration of PC extract at 50 and 100 mg/kg in CIA mice significantly decreased the arthritic scores, and the serum levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a, PGE2, TNF-α, and IL-17 compared with those in the CIA group（P〈0.05 or P〈0.01）. Furthermore, histopathological improvement of the joint architecture in CIA mice was observed after administration of PC extract. PC extract also significantly inhibited the expression of TNF-α and IL-17 in the joints of CIA mice by suppressing the expression of their m RNA and proteins. Conclusion： PC extract may improve the pathological progression of RA through the inhibition of joint destruction by synovial inflammation and immune-stimulation, therefore, it would be a potential anti-arthritic agent in RA.

Purpose:Monoacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 1(MGAT1)is reported to play a key role in the development of diet-induced nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).Thus,this study investigated the effect of exercise on suppression of the MGAT1 pathway in NAFLD tissue of high-fat diet(HFD)-induced obese ***:Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed an HFD containing 45%fat for 6 *** confirmation that NAFLD had been induced in the obese animals,they were divided into HFD-fed groups provided with exercise(HFD+EXE)or without exercise(HFD)and a group given dietary adjustment(DA)only,for a further 6 weeks of intervention *** 6-week regular moderate aerobic exercise consisted of an accommodation phase with increasing *** accumulation in the liver tissue was determined by Oil Red O *** MGAT1 and liver lipogenic gene mRNA levels were measured by qPCR,and their protein levels by western blot ***:Oil Red O staining showed that NAFLD was successfully induced by *** gene expression of MGAT1 was significantly lower in HFD+EXE than ***,there was no significant difference between HFD+EXE and *** protein expression of MGAT1 was significantly lower in HFD+EXE than both HFD and *** RNA and protein expression of other lipogenic genes were not different among *** data indicate that exercise suppresses MGAT1 pathway regardless of HFD feeding;in part,this effect could be greater than ***:Our data suggest that exercise can improve NAFLD,which is probably due to suppression of MGAT1 pathway.

We review the recent progress in the study of topological phases in systems with space–time inversion symmetry *** an anti-unitary symmetry which is local in momentum space and satisfies I2 ST= 1 such as PT in two dimensions(2 D)and three dimensions(3 D) without spin–orbit coupling and C2 T in 2 D with or without spin–orbit coupling, where P, T, C2 indicate the inversion, time-reversal, and two-fold rotation symmetries, respectively. Under IST, the Hamiltonian and the periodic part of the Bloch wave function can be constrained to be real-valued, which makes the Berry curvature and the Chern number vanish. In this class of systems, gapped band structures of real wave functions can be topologically distinguished by the Stiefel–Whitney numbers instead. The first and second Stiefel–Whitney numbers w1 and w2, respectively,are the corresponding invariants in 1 D and 2 D, which are equivalent to the quantized Berry phase and the Z2 monopole charge, respectively. We first describe the topological phases characterized by the first Stiefel–Whitney number, including1 D topological insulators with quantized charge polarization, 2 D Dirac semimetals, and 3 D nodal line semimetals. Next we review how the second Stiefel–Whitney class characterizes the 3 D nodal line semimetals carrying a Z2 monopole *** particular, we explain how the second Stiefel–Whitney number w2, the Z2 monopole charge, and the linking number between nodal lines are related. Finally, we review the properties of 2 D and 3 D topological insulators characterized by the nontrivial second Stiefel Whitney class.

To assess factors associated with the higher effect of metformin on mortality in diabetic colorectal cancer (CRC) patients, since the factors related to the effectiveness of metformin have not been identified *** January 2000 and December 2010, 413 patients diagnosed with both stage 3/4 CRC and diabetes mellitus were identified. Patients’ demographics and clinical characteristics were analyzed. The effect of metformin on CRC-specific mortality and the interactions between metformin and each adjusted factor were *** follow-up duration was median 50 mo (range: 1-218 mo). There were 85 deaths (45.9%) and 72 CRC-specific deaths (38.9%) among 185 patients who used metformin, compared to 130 total deaths (57.0%) and 107 CRC-specific deaths (46.9%) among 228 patients who did not use metformin. In multivariate analysis, survival benefit associated with metformin administration was identified (HR = 0.985, 95%CI: 0.974-0.997, P = 0.012). Interaction test between metformin and sex after adjustment for relevant factors revealed that female CRC patients taking metformin exhibited a significantly lower CRC-specific mortality rate than male CRC patients taking metformin (HR = 0.369, 95%CI: 0.155-0.881, P = 0.025). Furthermore, subgroup analysis revealed significant differences in CRC-specific mortality between the metformin and non-metformin groups in female patients (HR = 0.501, 95%CI: 0.286-0.879, P = 0.013) but not male patients (HR = 0.848, 95%CI: 0.594-1.211, P = 0.365). There were no significant interactions between metformin and other adjusted factors on CRC-specific *** showed a strong sex-dependent difference in the effect of metformin on CRC-specific mortality in advanced stage CRC patients with diabetes.

Developing efficient separation materials for recovering metal resources from aqueous environments is crucial for the sustainable water–food–energy nexus,which addresses the interdependence between energy production,water production,and energy *** material-based separation processes have demonstrated outstanding ***,electric energy and chemicals are used to frequently replace the separation materials used in such processes owing to their short life *** study presents a methodology for designing the self-regenerable fiber(SRF)according to the types of metals through a self-regeneration *** SRF can semi-permanently recover the metal resources from water through a repetitive adsorption–crystallization–detachment process of metal ions on its *** ionic metal resources are adsorbed and crystallized with the counter-anions on the SRF ***,the metal crystals are self-detached from the SRF surface by the collision between the crystals and curvature and non-sticky surface of the ***,a module containing the SRF maintains its metal recovery capability even during continuous injection of the metal solution without its *** findings highlight the significance of interfacial engineering and further guide the rational design of energy/environmentally friendly resource recovery modules.

Microfluidic dual loops reactor for conducting a multistep reaction

Precise control of each individual reaction that constitutes a multistep reaction must be performed to obtain the desired reaction product efficiently. In this work, we present a microfluidic dual loops reactor that enables multistep reaction by integrating two identical loop reactors. Specifically, reactants A and B are synthesized in the first loop reactor and transferred to the second loop reactor to synthesize with reactant C to form the final product. These individual reactions have nano-liter volumes and are carded out in a stepwise manner in each reactor without any cross-contamination issue. To pre- cisely control the mixing efficiency in each loop reactor, we investigate the operating pressure and the operating frequency on the mixing valves for rotary mixing. This microfluidic dual loops reactor is integrated with several valves to realize the fully automated unit operation of a multistep reaction, such as metering the reactants, rotary mixing, transportation, and collecting the product. For proof of concept, CdSeZn nanopartieles are successfully synthesized in a microfluidic dual loops reactor through a fully automated mukistep reaction. Taking all of these features together, this microfluidic dual loops reactor is a general microfluidic screening platform that can synthesize various materials through a multistep reaction.
