Autonomously self-healing, reversible, and soft adhesive microarchitecturesand structured electric elements could be important features in stable and versatilebioelectronic devices adhere to complex surfaces of the human body(rough, dry, wet, and vulnerable). In this study, we propose an autonomousself-healing multi-layered adhesive patch inspired by the octopus, which possessself-healing and robust adhesion properties in dry/underwater *** implement autonomously self-healing octopus-inspired architectures, adynamic polymer reflow model based on structural and material design suggestscriteria for three-dimensional patterning self-healing elastomers. In addition,self-healing multi-layered microstructures with different moduli endowsefficient self-healing ability, human-friendly reversible bio-adhesion, and stablemechanical deformability. Through programmed molecular behavior ofmicrolevel hybrid multiscale architectures, the bioinspired adhesive patchexhibited robust adhesion against rough skin surface under both dry andunderwater conditions while enabling autonomous adhesion restoring performanceafter damaged (over 95% healing efficiency under both conditions for24 h at 30℃). Finally, we developed a self-healing skin-mountable adhesiveelectronics with repeated attachment and minimal skin irritation by laminatingthin gold electrodes on octopus-like structures. Based on the robust adhesionand intimate contact with skin, we successfully obtained reliable measurements during dynamic motion under dry, wet, and damagedconditions.

Understanding microstructure and mechanical properties of(AlTa(0.76))xCoCrFeNi(2.1) eutectic high entropy alloys via thermo-physical parameters

(AlTa(0.76))xCoCrFeNi(2.1)(x values in molar ratio,x=0.1,0.3,0.5,0.7,1.0,and 1.5) alloys were designed to investigate the microstructure and mechanical properties of the eutectic high entropy alloys(EHEAs)consisting of FCC,B2,and Laves *** on the compositional variatio,clear microstructural variation was observed,as follows:(1) Group 1:FCC dendrite+Laves interdendrite(x=0.1),(2) Group 2:FCC dendrite+fine-eutectic structure consisting of FCC and Laves phases(x=0.3,0.5 and 0.7),(3) Group 3:B2 dendrite+bimodal eutectic structure [FCC/B2+Laves](x=1.0),(4) Group 4:Laves dendrite+eutectic structure consisting of B2 and Laves phases(x=1.5).As the fraction of Laves or B2 phases increases,yield stress increases from 293 to 2336 MPa,while the plastic strain decreases from 50 % to 2%.Thermo-physical parameters,such as mixing entropy(△S(mix)),mixing enthalpy(△H(mix)),valence electron concentration(VEC),and atomic size difference(δr),were calculated to understand the microstructural *** criteria(δr-VEC and δr-△H(mix)) were utilized to elucidate the formation of the eutectic structures in the present EHEAs,revealing the usefulness of the thermo-physical parameters in the development of EHEAs.

Texture development and grain boundary phase formation in Ce-and Ce-La-substituted Nd-Fe-B magnets during hot-deformation process

In this study,the influence of Ce-and Ce-La-substitution for Nd in Nd-Fe-B magnets on their magnetic and microstructural changes in the course of the hot-deformation process was investigated to gain insight into further reducing the Nd content in fine-grained Nd-Fe-B hot-deformed *** found that the[001]texture and microstructure of the RE-rich grain boundary phases,which are the factors that de-termine the remanence and coercivity of hot-deformed magnets,were deteriorated by the Ce-and *** is because the volume fraction of the RE-rich liquid formed in the grain boundaries during the hot-press and hot-deformation decreased due to the Ce-and Ce-La-substitution,thereby in-creasing the friction between the 2:14:1 grains while the c-axes of grains were aligned by grain rotation and decreasing the RE concentration of grain boundary *** particular,the Ce-La-co-substitution further prevented the liquid formation within the grain boundaries of the magnets during hot-press and hot-deformation because the wettability of the RE-rich liquid on the 2:14:1 grains became poor when La was substituted for Nd in the 2:14:1 *** results indicate that there is room for further im-provement in both the remanence and coercivity of the Ce-and Ce-La-substituted magnets by intro-ducing additional liquid into the grain boundaries prior to hot-press and *** applying the Nd-Cu infiltration process to the melt-spun ribbons(intermediate infiltration,I-infiltration),both the remanence and coercivity of the Nd-saving(Nd 0.7 Ce 0.3)-Fe-B and(Nd 0.7 Ce 0.225 La 0.075)-Fe-B hot-deformed magnets were successfully improved.

Effects of ocean acidifi cation driven by elevated CO_2 on larval shell growth and abnormal rates of the venerid clam, Mactra veneriformis

A bstract The venerid clam(M actra veneriformis Reeve 1854) is one of the main cultured bivalve species in intertidal and shallow subtidal ecosystems along the west coast of Korea. To understand the effects of ocean acidifi cation on the early life stages of Korean clams, we investigated shell growth and abnormality rates and types in the D-shaped, umbonate veliger, and pediveliger stages of the venerid clam M. veneriformis during exposure to elevated seawater pCO_2. In particular, we examined abnormal types of larval shell morphology categorized as shell deformations, shell distortions, and shell fi ssures. Specimens were incubated in seawater equilibrated with bubbled CO_2-enriched air at(400±25)×10^(-6)(ambient control),(800±25)×10^(-6)(high pCO_2), or(1 200±28)×10^(-6)(extremely high pCO_2), the atmospheric CO_2 concentrations predicted for the years 2014, 2084, and 2154(70-year intervals; two human generations), respectively, in the Representative Concentration Pathway(RCP) 8.5 scenario. The mean shell lengths of larvae were signifi cantly decreased in the high and extremely high pCO_2 groups compared with the ambient control groups. Furthermore, under high and extremely high pCO_2 conditions, the cultures exhibited signifi cantly increased abundances of abnormal larvae and increased severity of abnormalities compared with the ambient control. In the umbonate veliger stage of the experimental larvae, the most common abnormalities were shell deformations, distortions, and fi ssures; on the other hand, convex hinges and mantle protuberances were absent. These results suggest that elevated CO_2 exerts an additional burden on the health of M. veneriformis larvae by impairing early development.

Recent cumulative findings signify the adaptive immunity of materials as a key agenda in tissue healing that can improve regenerative events and outcomes. Modulating immune responses, mainly the recruitment and functions of T and B cells and their further interplay with innate immune cells (e.g., dendritic cells, macrophages) can be orchestrated by materials. For instance, decellularized matrices have been shown to promote muscle healing by inducing T helper 2 (Th2) cell immunity, while synthetic biopolymers exhibit differential effects on B cell responses and fibrosis compared decellularized matrices. We discuss the recent findings on how implantable materials instruct the adaptive immune events and the subsequent tissue healing process. In particular, we dissect the materials’ physicochemical properties (shape, size, topology, degradation, rigidity, and matrix dynamic mechanics) to demonstrate the relations of these parameters with the adaptive immune responses in vitro and the underlying biological mechanisms. Furthermore, we present evidence of recent in vivo phenomena, including tissue healing, cancer progression, and fibrosis, wherein biomaterials potentially shape adaptive immune cell functions and in vivo outcomes. Our discussion will help understand the materials-regulated immunology events more deeply, and offer the design rationale of materials with tunable matrix properties for accelerated tissue repair and regeneration.

Rigidity(or stiffness)of materials and extracellular matrix has proven to be one of the most significant extracellular physicochemical cues that can control diverse cell behaviors,such as contractility,motility,and spreading,and the resultant pathophysiological *** 2D materials engineered with tunable rigidity have enabled researchers to elucidate the roles of matrix biophysical cues in diverse cellular events,including migration,lineage specification,and mechanical ***,the recent findings accumulated under 3D environments with viscoelastic and remodeling properties pointed to the importance of dynamically changing rigidity in cell fate control,tissue repair,and disease ***,here we aim to highlight the works related with material/matrix-rigidity-mediated cell and tissue behaviors,with a brief outlook into the studies on the effects of material/matrix rigidity on cell behaviors in 2D systems,further discussion of the events and considerations in tissue-mimicking 3D conditions,and then examination of the in vivo findings that concern material/matrix *** current discussion will help understand the material/matrix-rigidity-mediated biological phenomena and further leverage the concepts to find therapeutic targets and to design implantable materials for the treatment of damaged and diseased tissues.

BACKGROUND Vasculitis,a systemic disorder with inflammation of blood vessel walls,can develop broad spectrum of signs and symptoms according to involvement of various organs,and therefore,early diagnosis of vasculitis is *** herein describe a patient who developed a special case of systemic vasculitis with mononeuropathy multiplex,rectal perforation and antiphospholipid syndrome(APS)presented with pulmonary *** SUMMARY A 61-year-old woman visited hospital with complaints of myalgia and occasional *** was initially diagnosed as proctitis and treated with antibiotics,however,there was no *** addition,she also complained right foot drop with hypesthesia,and left 2^(nd) and 3^(rd) finger tingling *** underwent nerve conduction study for evaluation,and it revealed sensorimotor polyneuropathy in the left arm and bilateral *** sural nerve biopsy strongly suggested vasculitic *** on nerve biopsy and clinical manifestation,she was diagnosed with vasculitis and treated with immunosuppressive *** treatment,sudden rectal perforation and pulmonary thromboembolism occurred,and further laboratory study suggested probable concomitant *** Hartmann operation was performed for rectal perforation,and anti-coagulation therapy was started for *** few cycles of immunosuppressive therapy,tingling sensation and weakness in her hand and foot had been partially recovered and vasculitis was considered to be *** Vasculitis can be presented with a variety of signs and symptoms,therefore,clinicians should always consider the possibility of diagnosis.

Portal vein thrombosis(PVT)is no longer a definitive contraindication in liver transplants(LTs)[1].Complex vascular reconstructions such as cavoportal hemitransposition(CPHT)[2–5],renoportal anastomosis(RPA)[6,7],and use of sizable collaterals(pericholedochal varix[8,9],coronary vein,peripancreatic or perigastroesophageal varices[10],right superior colic vein[11],ileocolic vein[12],and left gastric vein[13]),or combined liverpancreas-small bowel transplant[14]are required for portal inflow in patients with total portosplenomesenteric thrombosis.

A water balance has a significant impact on the overall system performance in proton exchange membrane fuel *** actual fuel cell application has a dynamic electrical load which means also dynamic electrical ***,since this electrical current is known,the water production from the fuel cell reaction is also able to be *** long as the fuel cell water transportation model is provided,the present liquid water inside the porous medium is also able to be modeled.A model of the liquid water saturation level in a fuel cell in unsteady load condition was *** model is a series of the water transportation model of water saturation level for the final output of proton exchange membrane(PEM) fuel cell to predict the flooding or drying of PEM fuel *** simulation of vehicle fuel cell in different dynamic load profiles and different inlet air conditions was done using this *** simulation result shows that PEM fuel cell with different dynamic load profiles has different liquid water saturation level *** means that a dynamic load fuel cell requires also a dynamic input air humidification.
