This paper attempts to interpret Donne＇s ＂Holy Sonnets＂ as spiritual experiences. Donne＇s works are better understood through the optic of Biblical knowledge, the backdrop of God＇s revelation of Himself. A poet whose heart is kindled by the Spirit of his Maker and whose mind is illumined by His Word recognizes a much deeper sense of transcendent reality. As Donne uses the most potent but intimate of words to express his interaction with God, his sonnets ground the sacred. In their fluctuating moods, the sonnets reverberate as radically varied experiences of God. Grand theological truths are translated into personal and passionate encounter with God.

Objective:To study anemia in AIDS patients and its relation with socioeconomic, employment status and educational ***:A total number of 442 patients who visited the Infectious Diseases University Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina were included in the study. Patients were dividied into two groups,*** with anemia and the other without anemia. Anemia epidemiology and its relationship with educational level, housing, job situation, monthly income, total daily caloric intake and weekly intake of meat were ***:Anemia was found in 228 patients(54%). Comparing patients with or without anemia, a statistically significant difference was found(P<0.0001) in those whose highest educational level reached was primary school, who lived in a precarious home, who had no stable job or were unable to work, whose income was less than 30 dollars per month, whose meat consumption was less than twice a week or received less than 8000 calories per ***:The high prevalence of anemia found in poor patients with AIDS suggests that poverty increases the risk to suffer from this hematological *** relationship between economic development policies and AIDS is complex. Our results seem to point to the fact that AIDS epidemic may affect economic development and in turn be affected by it. If we consider that AIDS affects the economically active adult population, despite recent medical progress it usually brings about fatal consequences, especially within the poorest sectors of society where the disease reduces the average life expectancy, increases health care demand and tends to exacerbate poverty and iniquity.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the genotoxicity induced by cyclophosphamide-adriamycin treatment in breast cancer patients through the frequencies of Sister Chromatid Exchange (SCE), Replication Index (RI), Mitotic Index (MI) and Cell Proliferation Index (CPI) and to study the possible association between biomarkers of genotoxicity and the early response to treatment. The frequencies were obtained before and immediately after therapy from 17 patients with breast cancer (p < 0.001). Response to treatment was assessed after two years resulting in 12 patients in a state of remission. MI and CPI had high values after treatment in women with active cancers compared to those in a state of remission, however there were not significant differences. Conclusions: It is possible that MI y CPI biomarkers can serve as indicators for early assessment of treatment with cyclophosphamide-adriamycin. It should be noted that these are preliminary results and further study is necessary.

Rat protein DE is an androgen-dependent cysteine-rich secretory protein （CRISP） synthesized by proximal epididymal regions. DE, also known as CRISP-1, is localized on the equatorial segment of acrosome-reacted spermatozoa and participates in gamete fusion through binding to egg complementary sites. Immunization of rats with DE inhibits fertility and sperm fusion ability, suggesting that DE represents a good epididymal contraceptive target. Recombinant DE fragments and synthetic peptides revealed that DE binds to the egg via a 12-amino acid region of an evolutionarily conserved motif, Signature 2 （S2）. The ability of other CRISP to bind to the rat egg was correlated with their S2 amino acid sequences. Although testicular protein Tpx- 1 （CRISP-2） was capable of binding to rodent eggs, human epididymal AEG-related protein （ARP） and helothermine （from lizard saliva） were not. The S2 region presented only two substitutions in Tpx-1 and four in ARP and helothermine, compared with the DE S2, suggesting that this amino acid sequence was relevant for egg interaction. Studies with Tpx- 1 and anti-Tpx- 1 revealed the participation of this protein in gamete fusion through binding to complementary sites in the egg. In competition studies, DE reduced binding of Tpx- 1 dose-dependently, indicating that both CRISP share the egg complementary sites. That anti-DE and anti-Tpx-1 inhibit sperm-egg fusion while recognizing only the corresponding proteins, suggests functional cooperation between these homologous CRISP to ensure fertilization success. These results increase our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of gamete fusion and contribute to the development of new and safer fertility regulating methods. （Asian J Androl 2007 July; 9： 528-532）

In this article, we present a new family of estimators for the regression parameter β in the Additive Hazards Model which represents a gain in robustness not only against outliers but also against unspecific contamination schemes. They are consistent and asymptotically normal and furthermore, and they have a nonzero breakdown point. In Survival Analysis, the Additive Hazards Model proposes a hazard function of the form , where ?is a common nonparametric baseline hazard function and z is a vector of independent variables. For this model, the seminal work of Lin and Ying (1994) develops an estimator for the regression parameter β which is asymptotically normal and highly efficient. However, a potential drawback of that classical estimator is that it is very sensitive to outliers. In an attempt to gain robustness, álvarez and Ferrarrio (2013) introduced a family of estimators for β which were still highly efficient and asymptotically normal, but they also had bounded influence functions. Those estimators, which are developed using classical Counting Processes methodology, still retain the drawback of having a zero breakdown point.

Designing a SCAR molecular marker for monitoring Trichoderma cf. harzianum in experimental communities

Several species of the fungal genus Trichoderma establish biological interactions with various micro- and macro-organisms. Some of these interactions are relevant in ecological terms and in biotechnological applications, such as biocontrol, where Trichoderma could be considered as an invasive species that colonizes a recipient community. The success of this invasion depends on multiple factors, which can be assayed using experimental communities as study models. Therefore, the aim of this work is to develop a species-specific sequence-characterized amplified region （SCAR） marker to monitor the colonization and growth of T. cf. harzianum when it invades experi- mental communities. For this study, 16 randomly amplified polymorphic DNA （RAPD） primers of 10-mer were used to generate polymorphic patterns, one of which generated a band present only in strains of T. cf. harzianum. This band was cloned, sequenced, and five primers of 20-23 mer were designed. Primer pairs 2F2/2R2 and 2F2/2R3 successfully and specifically amplified fragments of 278 and 448 bp from the T. cf. harzianum BpT10a strain DNA, respectively. Both primer pairs were also tested against the DNA from 14 strains of T. cf. harzianum and several strains of different fungal genera as specificity controls. Only the DNA from the strains of T. cf. hat-zianum was successfully amplified. Moreover, primer pair 2F2/2R2 was assessed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction （PCR） using fungal DNA mixtures and DNA extracted from fungal experimental communities as templates. T. cf. harzianum was detectable even when as few as 100 copies of the SCAR marker were available or even when its population represented only 0.1% of the whole community.

AIM:To correlate circulating soluble ST2(sST2) levels with the severity of ulcerative colitis(UC) and serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines,and to demonstrate the predictive power of sST2 levels for differentiation between active and inactive ***:We recruited 153 patients:82 with UC,26 with Crohn's disease(CD) and 43 disease controls [non-inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)].Subjects were excluded if they had diagnosis of asthma,autoimmune diseases or *** serum levels of sST2 and pro-inflammatory cytokines [pg/mL;median(25th-75th)] as well as clinical features,endoscopic and histological features,were subjected to *** sST2 performance for discrimination between active and inactive UC,non-IBD and healthy controls(HC) was determined with regard to sensitivity and specificity,and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient(r).To validate the method,the area under the curve(AUC) of receiver-operator characteristic(ROC) was determined(AUC,95% CI) and the total ST2 content of the colonic mucosa in UC patients was correlated with circulating levels of ***:The serum sST2 value was significantly higher in patients with active [235.80(90.65-367.90) pg/mL] rather than inactive UC [33.19(20.04-65.32) pg/mL],based on clinical,endoscopic and histopathological characteristics,as well as compared with non-IBD and HC(P < 0.001).The median level of sST2 in CD patients was 54.17(35.02-122.0) pg/mL,significantly higher than that of the HC group only(P < 0.01).The cutoff was set at 74.87 pg/mL to compare active with inactive UC in a multicenter cohort of *** of sensitivity,specificity,and ability to correctly classify UC,according to activity,were 83.33%,83.33% and 83.33%,*** AUC of the ROC curve to assess the ability of this molecule to discriminate between active vs inactive UC was 0.92(0.86-0.97,P < 0.0001).The serum levels of sST2 in patients with UC significantly correlated with endoscopic and histo-pathological scores(r =
