Clinical Facial Study of the Parents of Children with OAV (Oculo-Auriculo-Vertebral) Syndrome. Cases and Controls

Introduction: The oculo-auriculo-vertebral syndrome is a complex disease of the head and neck. Aim: The purpose of this study was to look for facial asymmetry, measuring both sides of the mandible and external ear in the parents of these patients in a clinical way, to see if it could be considered as a minor manifestation of the disease. Patients and Methods: A clinical, observational study was done with 50 trios and their parents’ controls, at the Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitación LGII in 2019, from January to May. Mandible and ear measurements were done. Results: All of our patients had microtia and facial asymmetry, and in 17 cases, other anomalies. We compared both sides of the mandible in the patients’ parents and in the parents’ controls. The results showed differences only in the fathers, and in the comparison with the controls, we found statistical differences only in women, family and non-family cases. The ears did not show any differences. Discussion: It is very interesting that we found differences in the measurements of the mandible of the patients’ mothers and their controls;in the mothers the mandible was bigger than in the controls, this probably means that the development of the cranial structures is modified by some genetic variants. No differences were found in the measurements of the ears. Conclusion: It is very difficult to know exactly if the differences we found are important or not. The clinical measurements could be a good option to establish if the parents have minor manifestations that could explain some heritability.

Background:In January 2005,Rasulov et *** published"First experience in the use of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)for the treatment of a patient with deep skin burns".Here,we present the first ever treated patient with cadaveric bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(CMSCs)in the history of ***:A young man,who severely burned 60%of his total body surface with 30%of full-thickness burns while working with a grass trimmer that exploded,was involved in the *** were obtained from the bone marrow of a cadaver donor in a routine procurement procedure of CUCAIBA,the Province of Buenos Aires,Argentina,Ministry of Health,Transplantation Agency,cultured,expanded,and applied on the burned surfaces using a fibrin spray after early ***:So far,our preliminary experience and our early results have been very impressive showing an outstanding safety data as well as some impressive good results in the use of ***:Based on al this,we think that improvements in the use of stem cells for burns might be possible in the near future and a lot of time as well as many lives could be saved by many other research teams all over the *** will probably be a real scientific opportunity in Regenerative Medicine as well as in Transplantation.

Standardizing MI-TLIF, a Proposal for a Reproducible Technique

Background: Minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MI TLIF) is a widely known and performed technique, however its versatility among different physicians continues to hinder its replication and results. Therefore, this study aimed to provide a step-by-step surgical guide to perform a safe MI-TLIF, based on the results obtained in patients operated on by a single surgeon over a period of 12 years. Patients and methods: A retrospective, single center, longitudinal, and observational cohort study was conducted with 931 patients who underwent MI TLIF by a single surgeon between 2010 and 2022 using the technique described on this paper, each with a minimum follow-up of 12 months. Criteria included Schizas classification, listhesis according to Meyerding classification, number of levels treated, cage size, and complications (screw repositioning or cerebrospinal fluid leak). Patient clinical outcomes were assessed using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pre- and postoperative radicular pain. Thin slice CT scans were used to assess the progression of the fusion using the Bridwell classification. In the statistical analysis, percentages, median, and interquartile range (IQR) were calculated. Results: Nine hundred and thirty one patients underwent MI TLIF using the technique described, eight hundred and eighty (94.5%) had a single level treated and fifty one (5.5%) had a 2 level procedure (982 levels), an 8mm cage was placed on five hundred and seventeenlevels (52.7%), six hundred and sixty three levels(67.6%) achieved grade I fusion, two hundred and sixty six levels (27.1%) achieved grade II fusion, 52 levels (5.3) achieved grade III fusion and one level (0.1) achieved a grade IV fusion or non-union. Revision surgery was performed on 3 patients (0.3%) for screw repositioning, cerebrospinal fluid leak was present on 2 patients during surgery and treated before closure. The cryptic lifestyle of most fungi necessitates molecular identification of the guild in environmental *** the past decades,rapid development and affordability of molecular tools have tremendously improved insights of the fungal diversity in all ecosystems and ***,in spite of the progress of molecular methods,knowledge about functional properties of the fungal taxa is vague and interpretation of environmental studies in an ecologically meaningful manner remains *** order to facilitate functional assignments and ecological interpretation of environmental studies we introduce a user friendly traits and character database FungalTraits operating at genus and species hypothesis *** the information from previous efforts such as FUNGuild and FunFun together with involvement of expert knowledge,we reannotated 10,210 and 151 fungal and Stramenopila genera,*** resulted in a stand-alone spreadsheet dataset covering 17 lifestyle related traits of fungal and Stramenopila genera,designed for rapid functional assignments of environmental *** order to assign the trait states to fungal species hypotheses,the scientific community of experts manually categorised and assigned available trait information to 697,413 fungal ITS *** the basis of those sequences we were able to summarise trait and host information into 92,623 fungal species hypotheses at 1%dissimilarity threshold.
