Granite-gneiss rock outcrop inselbergs are ancient stable ecosystems with old,climaticallybuffered infertile landscapes(OCBILs).Although inselbergs provide key ecosystem services,little is done for their conservation and,so far,a lot of their unknown evolutionary history has already been lost by human *** a fine-scale approach,here we tested if habitat and environmental filtering(the inselberg’s harshness)affect the evolutionary diversity of an Atlantic Forest inselberg in *** recorded all trees with a diameter at breast height≥5cm in 20 plots in four habitat types(total sampled area of 0.8 hectares),from highest to lowest:island,hillside,foothill,and semideciduous forest(matrix).We also collected soil samples for chemical,textural and physical soil *** fitted linear models to test the effects of soil and habitat on plotlevel metrics of phylogenetic diversity and structure,lineage diversity,phylogeneticβ-diversity,and evolutionary *** found that the upper inselberg habitats contain a distinct set of ancient,closely related,harsh-tolerant lineages,as well as a subset of lineages that persist under harsh conditions with a certain degree of water *** inferior inselberg habitats harbor higher lineage diversity than expected by *** strongly predicted evolutionary *** concluded that soil depth,slope,nutrients and texture(environmental filtering)and habitat types and topography(habitat filtering)shape the evolutionary history contained in fine-scale inselberg habitats,which should encourage the conservation of these ancient ecosystems.

The gut microbiota is a complex community of microorganisms that inhabit the digestive tracts of humans,living in symbiosis with the ***,characterized by an imbalance between the beneficial and opportunistic gut microbiota,is associated with several gastrointestinal disorders,such as irritable bowel syndrome(IBS);inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),represented by ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease;and colorectal cancer(CRC).Dysbiosis can disrupt the mucosal barrier,resulting in perpetuation of inflammation and *** increase in some specific groups of harmful bacteria,such as Escherichia coli(***)and enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis(ETBF),has been associated with chronic tissue inflammation and the release of pro-inflammatory and carcinogenic mediators,increasing the chance of developing CRC,following the inflammationdysplasia-cancer sequence in IBD ***,the aim of the present review was to analyze the correlation between changes in the gut microbiota and the development and maintenance of IBD,CRC,and IBD-associated *** with IBD and CRC have shown reduced bacterial diversity and abundance compared to healthy individuals,with enrichment of Firmicute sand *** bacteria are also associated with the onset and progression of CRC,such as Fusobacterium nucleatum,***,Enterococcus faecalis,Streptococcus gallolyticus,and *** research can evaluate the advantages of modulating the gut microbiota as preventive measures in CRC high-risk patients,directly affecting the prognosis of the disease and the quality of life of patients.

Biodiversity of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (AM) fungi in mangroves of Goa in West India

Seventeen mangrove species of eight families at seven river- ine and fringe habitats in Goa West India were surveyed for Arbuscular Mycorrhizal （AM） fungal diversity. Sixteen species were found to be mycorrhizal and one species showed no AM fungal colonization. AM root colonization was recorded at all seven sites and ranged from 6%-77%. Maximum root colonization was recorded in Excoecaria agal- locha （77%） and minimum colonization in Avicennia marina （6%）. paris-type colonization was predominant at all sites. Auxiliary cells were recorded in roots of Acanthus ilicifolius, Ceriops tagal and Sonneretia alba. AM fungal root colonization and spore density varied by plant species and site. Site average spore density ranged from 1.84 spores.g^-1 to 0.54 spores.g-1 of soil. In total, 28 AM fungal species of five genera, viz. Glomus, Acaulospora, Scutellospora, Gigaspora and Entrophospora, were recovered. Glomus was the dominant genus, three species of which were sporocarpic forms. Maximum site species richness （SR） ranged from 16 to 5. Species richness was maximum in A. ilicifolius where seven species of three genera were recovered. Based on relative abun- dance （RA） and isolation frequency （IF）, two common species, viz. G. intraradices and A. laevis, were recovered from all seven sites.

Need for oxygen therapy and ventilatory support in premature infants in a hospital in Southern Brazil
