The optimal therapy for Helicobacter pylori(***) infection should combine a high cure rate and a short treatment duration with a favorable side-effect profile and should maintain a low *** strategies have been proposed to increase the *** eradication rate,including the extension of the treatment duration to 14 d,the use of a four-drug regimen(quadruple,sequential,and concomitant treatments),and the use of novel antibiotics,such as ***,triple therapy remains the most widely accepted firstline treatment regimen in Brazil and the United Statesand throughout *** this therapy is limited by resistance to clarithromycin,other therapeutic regimens have been investigated *** review describes the current literature involving studies directly comparing these different therapies and their efficacies.

Despite the great potential of cellulose wood pulp and cellulose nanofibrils as reinforcing filler in thermoplastics,its use is limited due to its tendency to form agglomerates and due to its high hydrophilic *** we describe fiberboard composites with high contents of wood pulp or cellulose nanofibrils,and a resin of poly(styrene-methyl-methacrylate-acrylic acid)used as water-based *** wood pulp and cellulose nanofibrils were used directly in the form of water *** method is based on the flocculation of the polymer emulsion followed by agglomeration of a mixture of the polymer emulsion and cellulose suspension,leading to the co-precipitation of the composite material,which can be easily separated from the water *** with acrylic polymer/cellulose fibers in the proportions of 75:25,50:50 and 25:75 wt%were *** were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA)and water absorption *** analysis revealed a very good dispersion of the fibers without evidence of agglomeration,which led to superior mechanical *** results showed the effectiveness of the methodology and the potential of cellulose wood pulp and CNF as reinforcement fillers in fiberboard composites and any other high fiber-content materials.

The Impact of Occupant Behavior on Daylight Performance of an Office Room in a Tropical Climate

This work explores three patterns of occupants’ control of window blinds and the potential influence on daylight performance of an office room in a tropical climate. In this climate, windows are frequently obstructed by curtains to avoid glare, despite the daylighting and the exterior view. The consequences are obstructed outside view, poor daylight quality and dependency on artificial lighting. This paper assesses the impact on available daylight using parametric analysis based on daylighting dynamic computer simulations using Grasshopper and Daysim software, combining WWR （window-to-wall ratio）（40% and 80%）, SVF （sky view factor）（small and large） and occupant behavior （active, intermediate and passive users）. The user patterns are based in an office buildings survey that identifies preferences concerning daylight use and control of shading devices. The daylight performance criteria combine UDI （useful daylight illuminance）（500-5,000 lux） and illuminance uniformity distribution. Results confirm the impact of occupant behavior on daylighting performance. The optimum combination of external shading devices, high SVF and high window size results in a useful daylighting for 1/3 of the time for passive users and 2/3 for active users.

In social insects,it has been suggested that reproduction and the production of particular fertilitylinked cuticular hydrocarbons(CHC)may be under shared juvenile hormone(JH)control,and this could have been key in predisposing such cues to later evolve into full-fledged queen pheromone ***,to date,only few studies have experimentally tested this“hormonal pleiotropy”***,we formally test this hypothesis using data from four species of Polistine wasps,Polistes dominula,Polistes satan,Mischocyttarus metathoracicus,and Mischocyttarus cassununga,and experimental treatments with JH using the JH analogue methoprene and the anti-JH *** line with reproduction being under JH control,our results show that across these four species,precocene significantly decreased ovary development when compared with both the acetone solvent-only control and the methoprene *** with the hormonal pleiotropy hypothesis,these effects on reproduction were further matched by subtle shifts in the CHC profiles,with univariate analyses showing that in *** and *** the abundance of particular linear alkanes and mono-methylated alkanes were affected by ovary development and our hormonal *** results indicate that in primitively eusocial wasps,and particularly in Polistes,reproduction and the production of some CHC cues are under joint JH *** suggest that pleiotropic links between reproduction and the production of such hydrocarbon cues have been key enablers for the origin of true fertility and queen signals in more derived,advanced eusocial insects.

AIM To evaluate the relation between 12 polymorphisms and the development of gastric cancer(GC) and colorectal cancer(CRC).METHODS In this study,we included 125 individuals with GC diagnosis,66 individuals with CRC diagnosis and 475 cancer-free individuals. All participants resided in the North region of Brazil and authorized the use of their samples. The 12 polymorphisms(in CASP8,CYP2 E1,CYP19 A1,IL1 A,IL4,MDM2,NFKB1,PAR1,TP53,TYMS,UGT1 A1 and XRCC1 genes) were genotyped in a single PCR for each individual,followed by fragment analysis. To avoid misinterpretation due to population substructure,we applied a previously developed set of 61 ancestryinformative markers that can also be genotyped by multiplex PCR. The statistical analyses were performed in Structure v.2.3.4,R environment and SPSS *** After statistical analyses with the control of confounding factors,such as genetic ancestry,three markers(rs79071878 in IL4,rs3730485 in MDM2 and rs28362491 in NFKB1) were positively associated with the development of GC. One of these markers(rs28362491) and the marker in the UGT1 A1 gene(rs8175347) were positively associated with the development of CRC. Therefore,we investigated whether the joint presence of the deleterious alleles of each marker could affect the development of cancer and we obtained positive results in all analyses. Carriers of the combination of alleles RP1 + DEL(rs79071878 and rs28361491,respectively) are at 10-times greater risk of developing GC than carriers of other combinations. Similarly,carriers of the combination of DEL + RARE(rs283628 and rs8175347) are at about 12-times greater risk of developing CRC than carriers of other *** These findings are important for the comprehension of gastric and CRC development,particularly in highly admixed populations,such as the Brazilian population.

Granite-gneiss rock outcrop inselbergs are ancient stable ecosystems with old,climaticallybuffered infertile landscapes(OCBILs).Although inselbergs provide key ecosystem services,little is done for their conservation and,so far,a lot of their unknown evolutionary history has already been lost by human *** a fine-scale approach,here we tested if habitat and environmental filtering(the inselberg’s harshness)affect the evolutionary diversity of an Atlantic Forest inselberg in *** recorded all trees with a diameter at breast height≥5cm in 20 plots in four habitat types(total sampled area of 0.8 hectares),from highest to lowest:island,hillside,foothill,and semideciduous forest(matrix).We also collected soil samples for chemical,textural and physical soil *** fitted linear models to test the effects of soil and habitat on plotlevel metrics of phylogenetic diversity and structure,lineage diversity,phylogeneticβ-diversity,and evolutionary *** found that the upper inselberg habitats contain a distinct set of ancient,closely related,harsh-tolerant lineages,as well as a subset of lineages that persist under harsh conditions with a certain degree of water *** inferior inselberg habitats harbor higher lineage diversity than expected by *** strongly predicted evolutionary *** concluded that soil depth,slope,nutrients and texture(environmental filtering)and habitat types and topography(habitat filtering)shape the evolutionary history contained in fine-scale inselberg habitats,which should encourage the conservation of these ancient ecosystems.

Globally,gastric cancer is the 4thmost frequently diagnosed cancer and the 2ndleading cause of death from cancer,with an estimated 990000 new cases and738000 deaths registered in *** the advanced setting,standard chemotherapies protocols acquired an important role since last decades in prolong ***,recent advances in molecular therapies provided a new interesting weapon to treat advanced gastric cancer through anti-human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)***,an anti-HER2 monoclonal antibody,was the first target drug in the metastatic setting that showed benefit in overall survival when in association with platinum-5-fluorouracil based ***,HER2 overexpression analysis acquired a main role in predict response for trastuzumab in this ***,we conducted a review that will discuss the main points concerning trastuzumab and HER2 in gastric cancer,providing a comprehensive overview of molecular mechanisms and novel trials involved.
