Calcium acts as a second messenger for signaling to a variety of stimuli including MAMps （Microbe-Associated Molecular patterns）, such as fig22 and elf18 that are derived from bacterial flagellin and elongation factor Tu, respectively. Here, Arabidopsis thaliana mutants with changed calcium elevation （cce） in response to fig22 treatment were isolated and characterized. Besides novel mutant alleles of the fig22 receptor, FLS2 （Flagellin-Sensitive 2）, and the receptor-associated kinase, BAK1 （Brassinosteroid receptor 1-Associated Kinase 1）, the new cce mutants can be categorized into two main groups--those with a reduced or an enhanced calcium elevation. Moreover, cce mutants from both groups show differ- ential phenotypes to different sets of MAMps. Thus, these mutants will facilitate the discovery of novel components in early MAMp signaling and bridge the gaps in current knowledge of calcium signaling during plant-microbe interactions. Last but not least, the screening method is optimized for speed （covering 384 plants in 3 or 10 h） and can be adapted to genetically dissect any other stimuli that induce a change in calcium levels.

The phytochrome （phy）A and phyB photoreceptors mediate three photobiological response modes in plants; whereas phyA can mediate the very-low-fluence response （VLFR）, the high-irradiance response （HIR） and, to some extent, the low fluence response （LFR）, phyB and other type U phytochromes only mediate the LFR. To investigate to what level a rice phyA can complement for Arabidopsis phyA or phyB function and to evaluate the role of the serine residues in the first 20 amino acids of the N-terminus of phyA, we examined VLFR, LFR, and HIR responses in phyB and phyAphyB mutant plants transformed with rice pHYA cDNA or a mutant rice pHYA cDNA in which the first 10 serine residues were mutated to alanines （phyA SA）. Utilizing mutants without endogenous phyB allowed the evaluation of red-light-derived responses sensed by the rice phyA. In summary, the WT rice phyA could complement VLFR and LFR responses such as inhibition of hypocotyl elongation under pulses of FR or continuous R light, induction of flowering and leaf expansion, whereas the phyA SA was more specific for HIR responses （e.g. inhibition of hypocotyl elongation and anthocyanin accumulation under continuous far-red light）. As the N-terminal serines can no longer be phosphorylated in the phyA SA mutant, this suggests a role for phosphorylation discriminating between the different phyA-dependent responses. The efficacy of the rice phyA expressed in Arabidopsis was dependent upon the developmental age of the plants analyzed and on the physiological response, suggesting a stage-dependent downstream modulation of phytochrome signaling.

Organochlorine pesticide and heavy metal residues in some edible biota collected from Quanzhou Bay and Xinghua Bay,Southeast China

In order to assess the contamination of edible marine organisms in Quanzhou and Xinghua Bays, Fujian province, China, concentrations of organochlorine pesticides （hexachlorocyclohexane isomers or HCHs and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane isomers/derivatives or DDTs） and heavy metals （Cu, pb, Zn, As, Cr, Cd, Ni and Hg） in 13 species collected from different sites in the hays were analyzed by GC-ECD and ICp-MS. The concentration of the sum of DDTs exceeded that the sum of HCHs in the samples. Most of the organisms showed higher levels of DDTs than the first level criterion （10 ng/g） for marine biological quality in China （GB 18421-2001） but conformed to the first level criterion （20 ng/g） for HCHs. The estimated mean daily uptake of pesticides was below the level for minimal risk to the consumers. The levels of Cd, As and pb in most organisms from both bays were markedly elevated and above the recommended legal limits for human consumption. Our results showed the need for routine monitoring of marine species contamination to ensure public and environmental health.

In a recent study published in Cell,Afkhami and colleagues systematically compared different routes of vaccine delivery,origin of the vaccine platform as well as valence of the vaccine and demonstrated that the respiratory mucosal delivery of a trivalent chimpanzee’s adenovirus(Ad)-vectored vaccine is superior to any other of the tested conditions in inducing broadlyacting immunity and protection against current severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)and possibly future variants of concern(VOC).1 The ongoing global coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 has forced an uniquely fast development of novel mRNA-and vector-based vaccines.

Clean drinking water is one of the United Nations Sustainable Development *** significant progress in the water purification technology,many regions still lack access to clean *** paper provides a review of selected water contaminants and their impacts on human *** World Health Organization(WHO)guidelines and regional standards for key contaminants were used to characterise water quality in the European Union and *** concept of safe drinking water was explained based on the non-observed adverse effect level,threshold concentrations for toxic chemicals,and their total daily *** techniques for monitoring water contaminants and the drinking water standards from five different countries,including the UK,USA,Canada,pakistan and India,were compared to WHO recommended *** literature on actual water quality in these regions and its potential health impacts was also ***,the role of public water suppliers in identifying and monitoring drinking water contaminants in selected developed countries was presented as a potential guideline for developing *** review emphasised the need for a comprehensive understanding of water quality and its impacts on human health to ensure access to clean drinking water worldwide.

Oxygenation of tissues plays an important role in the development and progression of tumor to treatment *** of metalloporphyrines phosphorescence quenching by oxygen is one of the ways to measure dynamics of the oxygen concentration in the tissues by phosphorescence lifetime imaging of meso-tetra(sulfophenyl)tetrabenzoporphyrin pd(Ⅱ)(TBp)using the time-correlated single photon counting(TCSpC)*** has been shown that phosphorescence lifetime of the sensor in S37 tumor in vivo varied in the range of 130 to 290μs after both topical and intravenous administration of *** indicates that oxygen level in tumors was lower compared to normal tissues where TBp phosphorescence has not been *** lifetimes of TBp increased in the solid tumor and in the muscle after photodynamic therapy of solid tumor that demonstrates oxygen consumption during treatment and possibly stopping the blood flow and hence the oxygen supply to the tissues.

The current work is focused on the study of optical clearing of skeletal muscles under local *** experiments were performed on in vitro bovine skeletal *** time dependence of optical clearing was studied by monitoring the luminescence intensity of NaYF_(4)∶Er,Yb upconverting particles located under tissue *** study shows the possibility to use upconverting nanoparticles(UCNps)both for studying the dynamics of the optical clearing of biological tissue under compression and to detect moments of cell wall damage under excessive *** advantage of using UCNps is the presence of several bands in their luminescence spectra,located both at close wavelengths and far apart.
