Environmental parameters and tree physiology in two semiarid land use systems in Brazil

To determine if reduced tree densities(number of trees per unit area) lead to changes in micro-meteorological and tree physiological characteristics, two areas with different tree densities were assessed. One was an agrosilvopastoral system(AGP) with low tree density, and the other, a secondary forest(SF) with greater tree numbers, both located in a semiarid region of Brazil. Data were collected simultaneously by two automated weather stations: rainfall, air(T_a) and soil temperatures(T_(s5 cm)), relative humidity(RHair), photosynthetically active radiation(PAR), soil moisture at two depths(M_(s30 cm)and M_(s50 cm)),and wind velocity(Vw). Net photosynthesis in Cordia oncocalyx Allema?o trees was measured with an infrared gas analyzer in February, March, May, July, August and September 2011, which encompasses a rainy period followed by a dry period. Average values of Ta, T_(s5 cm), Vwand PAR were greater and average values of RHairand M_(s50 cm) were lesser in the AGP. Photosynthetic rates were greater in plants growing under the AGP at the onset of the dry season when Vw, PAR and T_(s5 cm)were greater and M_(s50 cm) was lesser. Photosynthetic rates correlated strongly with physical parameters during the dry season, especially under SF. Differences in tree numbers between AGP and SF led to differences in physical environmental parameters;however, the latter had less influence on photosynthetic rates in C. oncocalyx during the rainy season. During the dry season, all physical parameters had an impact on net photosynthesis under SF but not under AGP. This indicates a certain independence of plants in AGP.

Medicines advertising can be discussed from several perspectives. The study can be directed to its informational content, current legislation, characteristic (persuasive, informative) and the use of euphemisms. In this paper, the authors indicated the values present in the advertising content of the Centrum brand, classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as Over the Counter—OTC Medicine, based on the content analysis [1] of whose evaluations will be based on advertising objects published on Facebook.

Amoxicillin/clavulanate is a synthetic penicillin that is currently commonly used,especially for the treatment of respiratory and cutaneous *** general,it is a well-tolerated oral ***,amoxicillin/clavulanate can cause adverse effects,mainly cutaneous,gastrointestinal,hepatic and hematologic,in some *** here is a case report of a 63-yearold male patient who developed cholestatic hepatitis after recent use of amoxicillin/*** 6 wk of prolonged use of the drug,he began to show signs of cholestatic icterus and developed severe hyperbilirubinemia(total bilirubin>300 mg/L).Diagnostic investigation was conducted by ultrasonography of the upper abdomen,serum tests for infection history,laboratory screening of autoimmune diseases,nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)of the abdomen with bile duct-NMR and transcutaneous liver biopsy guided by *** duration of disease was approximately 4 mo,with complete resolution of symptoms and laboratory changes at the end of that time *** treatment was not instituted,only a combination of anti-emetic(metoclopramide)and cholestyramine for pruritus.

Double intrastromal corneal ring segment implantation: a new approach for improved clinical outcomes in keratoconus patients

AIM:To evaluate the clinical outcomes after subsequent implantation of a new intrastromal corneal ring segment(ICRS)model followed by an additional short-arc ICRS implant in keratoconus ***:This retrospective single-arm cohort study evaluated 25 eyes of 21 keratoconus patients implanted with the new ICRS followed by 140-arch length ICRS(140-ICRS)*** distance visual acuity(UDVA,logMAR),corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA,logMAR),sphere,astigmatism,keratometry,spherical equivalent(SE),and asphericity were compared preoperatively and postoperatively after both ICRS ***:The average follow-up time after 140-ICRS implantation was 6.40±*** mean preoperative UDVA improved from 1.27±0.14 preoperative to 0.52±0.26 after both ICRS implantation(P=0.03).The mean sphere value reduced from-5.34±2.74 preoperatively to-2.06±1.84 postoperatively(P<0.001)after the first ICRS implantation and decreased to-0.59±1.54 postoperatively(P<0.001)after 140-ICRS *** mean preoperative astigmatism was-3.72±1.56 and improved to-2.82±1.08 after the first ICRS implantation,and following the 140-ICRS implantation,the mean astigmatism was-1.37±0.67(P=0.001).The SE and asphericity changes were statistically significant(P<0.001).The researchers did not find intraoperative or postoperative complications for both ***:The combination of 2 different ICRSs can efficiently regularize the cornea,reduce the SE,and improve visual acuity in selected keratoconus patients.

The CaO-P_(2)O_(5)-SiO_(2)-MgO system presents several compounds used as biomaterials such as hydroxyapatite(HA),tricalcium phosphate(TCP)and TCP with magnesium substituting partial calcium(TCMP).Theβ-TCMP phase with whitlockite structure has interesting biological features and mechanical properties,meeting the requirements of a bioactive material for bone *** this work,the production of Mg-doped TCP,β-TCMP,has been investigated by crystallization from a glass composed of 52.75 wt%3CaO·P_(2)O_(5),30 wt%SiO_(2)and 17.25 wt%MgO(i.e.,31.7 mol%CaO,10.6 mol%P_(2)O_(5),26.6 mol%MgO and 31.1 mol%SiO_(2))using heat treatments between 775℃and 1100℃for up to 8 *** devitrification process of the glass has been accompanied by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),high-resolution X-ray diffraction(HRXRD),relative density and bending strength *** characterization by HRXRD and DSC revealed the occurrence of whitlockite soon after the bulk glass preparation,a transient non-cataloged silicate between 800℃and 1100℃,and the formation of diopside in samples treated at 1100℃as crystalline *** overall crystalline fraction varied from 26%to 70%depending on the heat ***,contraction of the a-axis lattice parameter and expansion of the c-axis lattice parameter of the whitlockite structure have been observed during the heat treatments,which were attributed to theβ-TCMP formation with the partial substitution of Ca^(2+)by Mg^(2+).Relative densities near 99%and 97%for the glass and glass-ceramics respectively indicated a discrete reduction as a function of the devitrification *** strengths of 70 MPa and 120 MPa were determined for the glass and glass-ceramic material crystallized at 975℃for 4 h,respectively.
