Zynamite^(■) (Mangifera indica leaf Extract)and Caffeine Act in a Synergistic Manner on Electrophysiological Parameters of Rat Central Nervous System

Zynamite®, a special extract from Mangifera indica, exerted stimulatory properties on the central nervous system during a pilot study. The question arose if Zynamite®?would have a similar action on the central nervous system as caffeine. Two well established animal models were used: a) quantitation of spectral power of field potentials in the freely moving rat and b) induction of long term potentiation (lTP) in the hippocampus slice preparation ex vivo after one week of daily administration. In the presence of 25 mg/kg of Zynamite®, predominantly alpha2 and beta1 spectral frequencies were attenuated in all brain areas during the first hour after administration. Exactly this pattern of frequency changes had been observed in earlier studies with i.p. administration of caffeine. Discriminant analysis confirmed this similarity by projection of Zynamite®?and 0.5 mg/kg caffeine into close neighborhood and showing identical colours, which points to a similar mechanism of action in this analysis. In addition, when Zynamite®?was combined with very low doses of caffeine synergistic effects were observed. Since alpha2 waves are under the control of dopamine, activation of this neurotransmitter system might be responsible for the stimulating property of Zynamite®. These results are corroborated by the results from the ex vivo study using the hippocampus slice in vitro to follow changes in excitability in the presence of 0.5 mg/kg of caffeine, 25 mg/kg of Zynamite®?or their combination in comparison to Placebo after daily administration for one week. Both caffeine and Zynamite®?increased lTP. lTP relates to space and time dependent memory. From these studies it is evident that both caffeine and Zynamite®?act in similar ways on brain electrical activity, and have potential to improve cognitive function. Associations between Hormonal and Mechanical Factors of Knee Osteoarthritis in Women—A Preliminary Study

The purpose of this study was to determine the associations between urinary estradiol (E2) metabolite concentration and medial knee loading with radiographic disease severity in middle aged women with initial stage knee osteoarthritis (OA). Women presenting with knee pain were recruited into a cross-sectional correlation study (KOA, n = 9, age = 52 ± 4 yrs). Self report menstrual history, the Modified Baecke Questionnaire and the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) subjective data were collected. A fasting blood sample (follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α)), and urine catch (16α-hydroxyestrone and 2-hydroxyestrone) were collected. Gait analysis using an 8-camera motion analysis system assessed internal knee varus moment and foot progression angle. Pearson Product moments tested for associations between urinary 16α-hydroxyestrone and 2-hydroxyestrone, TNF-α, medial knee loading, and radiographic disease severity (Kellgren/lawrence (K/l) radiographic score). Significant correlations were found within the hormonal biomarkers (r = 0.94, p p p = 0.31). No correlations were found for radiographic disease severity or TNF-α. The lack of association between hormonal and biomechanical variables could be due to large variability of the E2 metabolites seen in the menopause transition and the limited structural changes of initial staged knee OA.

The tomato(Solanum lycopersicum l.)is one of the world’s most important vegetable ***,phytopathogenic bacteria affect the yield and quality of tomato cultivation,like Agrobacterium tumefeciens(At),Clavibacter michiganensis ***(Cmm),Pseudomonas syringae ***(Pst),Ralstonia solanacearum(Rs),and Xanthomonas axonopodis(Xa).Synthetic chemical products are used mostly on disease plant control,but overuse generates resistance to bacterial *** study aimed to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of Moringa oleifera *** against At,Cmm,Pst,Rs,and Xa,as well as information about this plant species’chemical *** activity against pathogens observed by microplate technique,phytochemical screening,and FTIR analysis revealed different bio-active compounds on ethanolic extracts with antibacterial *** growth inhibition rate ranged between 0.08%and 99.94%.The inhibitory concentration,IC50,required to inhibit 50%of At,Cmm,Pst,Rs,and Xa bacterial growth,was 276.67,350.48,277.85,351.49,and 283.22 mg/l,*** of phytopathogen bacteria’s growth increased as the concentrations of the extract also *** oleifera extract can be recommended as a potent bio-bactericide.

Aim:Estrogen receptorα-positive(ER+)subtypes of breast cancer have the greatest predilection for forming osteolytic bone metastases(BMETs).Because tumor-derived factors mediate osteolysis,a possible role for tumoral ERαsignaling in driving ER+BMET osteolysis was queried using an estrogen(E2)-dependent ER+breast cancer BMET ***:Female athymic Foxn1nu mice were inoculated with human ER+MCF-7 breast cancer cells via the left cardiac ventricle post-E2 pellet placement,and age-and dose-dependent E2 effects on osteolytic ER+BMET progression,as well as direct bone effects of E2,were ***:Osteolytic BMETs,which did not form in the absence of E2 supplementation,occurred with the same frequency in young(5-week-old)*** mature(16-week-old)E2(0.72 mg)-treated mice,but were larger in young mice where anabolic bone effects of E2 were ***,in mice of a single age and across a range of E2 doses,anabolic E2 bone effects were constant,while osteolytic ER+BMET lesion incidence and size increased in an E2 dose-dependent *** in ER+tumor-bearing(but not tumor-naive)mice increased in an E2-dose dependent fashion at the bone-tumor interface,while histologic tumor size and proliferation did not vary with E2 dose.E2-inducible tumoral secretion of the osteolytic factor parathyroid hormone-related protein(PTHrP)was dose-dependent and mediated by ERα,with significantly greater levels of secretion from ER+BMET-derived tumor ***:These results suggest that tumoral ERαsignaling may contribute to ER+BMET-associated osteolysis,potentially explaining the greater predilection for ER+tumors to form clinically-evident osteolytic BMETs.

The chemistry of rainwater has been subject to numerous investigations during the last two decades due to the increase of environmental problems caused by the acid deposition. The present study focuses on one aspect of air pollution, the chemical composition of wet deposition of an industrial zone. The sampling period was from March to December 2009. The station was located on the roof of the Chemistry School at the University of Nuevo león, an area in the north of Monterrey where the majority of pollution is generated. Twenty-five wet precipitation samples were collected with an automatic sampler and analyzed for pH, ions (, , Cl-, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+) and conductivity. The results show that the average pH is higher than 5.6;the characteristics of the rainwater studied are of alkaline nature due to the values of pH found;there is an evident anthropogenic source contributing to the alkaline of rain water. In order to find possible association between ions and consequently the possible sources of pollutants correlation study was applied using the program SPSS v.12. Good correlations were found between ions and along with Ca2+ and Mg2+. The local extraction industry and surrounding aerosols might be causing of alkaline rain which may be due to the neutralization effect of particulate matter. This study represents a continuation of the studies of rainwater chemistry in the Northeast of Mexico.

AIM To examine the relationship between elevated granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor(GMCSF) auto-antibodies(Ab) level and time to surgical recurrence after initial surgery for Crohn's disease(CD). METHODS We reviewed 412 charts from a clinical database at tertiary academic hospital. Patients included in the study had ileal or ileocolonic CD and surgical resection of small bowel or ileocecal region for management of disease. Serum samples were analyzed for serological assays including GM-CSF cytokine, GM-CSF Ab, ASCA Ig G and Ig A, and genetic markers including SNPs rs2066843, rs2066844, rs2066845, rs2076756 and rs2066847 in NOD2, rs2241880 in ATG16 l1, and rs13361189 in IRGM. Cox proportional-hazards models were used to assess the predictors of surgical *** Ninety six percent of patients underwent initial ileocecal resection(ICR) or ileal resection(IR) and subsequently 40% of patients required a second ICR/IR for CD. GMCSF Ab level was elevated at a median of 3.81 mcg/ml. Factors predicting faster time to a second surgery included elevated GM-CSF Ab [hazard ratio(HR) 3.52, 95%CI: 1.45-8.53, P = 0.005] and elevated GM-CSF cytokine(HR = 2.48, 95%CI: 1.31-4.70, P = 0.005). Factors predicting longer duration between first and second surgery included use of Immunomodulators(HR = 0.49, 95%CI: 0.31-0.77, P = 0.002), the interaction effect of low GM-CSF Ab levels and smoking(HR = 0.60, 95%CI: 0.45-0.81, P = 0.001) and the interaction effect of low GM-CSF cytokine levels and ATG16 l1(HR = 0.65, 95%CI: 0.49-0.88, P = 0.006).CONClUSION GM-CSF bioavailability plays a critical role in maintaining intestinal homeostasis. Decreased bioavailability coupled with the genetic risk markers and/or smoking results in aggressive CD behavior.

Despite advances in forecasting and emergency preparedness, weather related disasters continue to cost many lives, to displace populations and to cause wide-spread damage. Therefore, High Impact Weather Project (HIWeather), a 10-year research project (https://***/en/resources/buHetin/hiweather-10-yearresearch- project), was established in 2016 by WM0 (World Meteorology Organization) WWRP (World Weather Research Program: https://***/pages/prog/arep/wwrp/new/wwrp_new_en. html). HIWeather aimed at achieving dramatic improvements in the effectiveness of weather-related hazard warnings, following recent advancement in numerical weather prediction at km-scale and in disaster risk reduction. The implementation plan was developed under the concept of warning chain, which comprises all components and the connections between to a successful weather-hazards warning: observations, weather forecast, hazard forecast, impact forecast, the generation of warnings and decision making (Fig. 1). A successful warning relies on information produced by the meteorological and related physical sciences, thus its effectiveness of delivery depends on applications of social, behavioral and economic sciences. The workshop of WM0 High Impact Weather Project was held in Beijing during 20-22 November of 2018, attracted a diverse and interdisciplinary group of over 70 scientists from 25 countries in the broad field of physical and social science, during which all elements of the warning chain were discussed critically.
