Through ingestion and subsequent egestion,Arctic seabirds can bioaccumulate microplastics at and around their colony breeding *** microplastics in Arctic seabirds have been well documented,it is not yet understood to what extent these particles can act as transport vehicles for plastic-associated contaminants,including legacy persistent organic pollutants(pOps),trace metals,and organic *** investigated the occurrence and pattern of organic and inorganic co-contaminants of microplastics in two seabird species from the Canadian Arctic-northern fulmar(fulmarus glacialis)and black-legged kittiwake(Rissa tridactyla).We found that fulmars had higher levels of plastic contamination and emerging organic compounds(known to be plastic additives)than kittiwakes,whereas higher concentrations of legacy pOps were found in kittiwakes than the ***,fulmars,the species with the much larger foraging range(~200 km),had higher plastic pollution and overall contaminant burdens,indicating that birds may be acting as long-range transport vectors for plasticassociated *** results suggest a potential connection between plastic additive contamination and plastic pollution burdens in the bird stomachs,highlighting the importance of treating plastic particles and plastic-associated organic additives as co-contaminants rather than separate pollution issues.

Joint experiments(JEs)on small tokamaks have been regularly performed between 2005 and 2015 under the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA)coordinated research projects(CRps).This paper describes the background and the rationale for these experiments,how they were organized and executed,main areas of research covered during these experiments,main results,contributions to mainstream fusion research,and discusses lessons learned and outcomes from these *** underline several of the most important scientific outputs and also specific outputs in the education of young scientists and scientists from developing countries and their importance.

The description and understanding of plant communities is fundamental for the implementation of conservation or restoration programs, especially when these communities are highly threatened and need to be *** rupestres, some Neotropical mountain grasslands located in central Brazil and part of the Cerrado biome(covering 2 million km2) host unique plant communities, currently threatened by quarrying and *** grassy matrix of campos rupestres, has long been considered a rich mosaic under the control of local topography and the nature of substrate, but this affirmation has not been well *** analyzed whether plant communities varied in relation to edaphic factors within the stony substrate and the sandy substrate of this grassy *** selected 5 sites where occur both grasslands on stony substrate and on sandy substrate, and we carried out vegetation surveys and soil *** counted 222 plant species within our communities, among which38.6% are exclusively found on campos *** results show that both soil-types are strongly acidic, nutrient poor and exhibit a seasonal *** increases and p H and organic carbon decrease during the dry *** soils areslightly richer in nutrients than sandy soils and differences in soil granulometry and composition have led to the formation of distinct plant *** species are confined to either one or the other grassland-type, which makes the plant composition of each community *** in edaphic factors generate heterogeneous grasslands favorable to a high plant *** programs and restoration actions have to maintain or recreate this *** presence of distinct plant communities implies that different strategies might be adopted to improve the restoration of these ecosystems.

The complexity of multi-dimensional climate, environmental and human health information complicates bringing together scientists, civil society, and decision makers to provide adequate mitigation and adaptation options for the consequences of global environmental change. To provide an effective pathway to conciliate (integrate) these datasets, we present pULsE-Brazil as the platform for Understanding Long-term sustainability of Ecosystems and human health. The overarching aim of this paper is to focus on two study cases in the Brazilian state of Acre, 1) analyzing recent socio-environmental disasters such as the impacts of droughts and consequent increases in fire detections on the incidence of respiratory diseases, and 2) evaluating the impacts of temperature increases in combination with rainfall seasonality upon the incidence of Dengue fever. Based on data available in pULsE-Brazil platform, we also aim to provide insights on the consequences of future climate variability on ecosystems and human health. finally, we provide a discussion on the collaborative process between scientists and policymakers that defined the pULsE-Brazil platform specifications and datasets and propose a conceptual pathway for promoting the interaction between science and policy during the process of producing a tool that allows the understating of climate-relate processes. Our results clearly demonstrated that ecosystems are under increased fire risk in the future that will, in turn, affect the health of human populations. Moreover, humans are also exposed to critical Dengue fever outbreaks with the projected increase in minimum temperatures. Therefore, minimizing the impacts of these potentially ascending socio-environmental problems is the first step for adapting to a changing climate in the Amazon region. Background: The trigger finger, also known as stenosing tenosynovitis of the flexor tendon, is a common cause of hand disability;This can result in significant limitations in certain daily living activities. It is possible to treat this condition with conservative or surgical methods. Methods: This is a retrospective, observational, cross-sectional and descriptive study. The source population consisted of all patients with a diagnosis of trigger finger who had been treated in the department of plastic and reconstructive surgery of our institution between 2020 and 2023. The primary objective of this study is to determine the prevalence and characterize the clinical and surgical characteristics of the population affected by trigger finger in our hospital. Results: The total population was 237 patients, of which 165 were women (70%) and 72 men (30%). The most affected hand was the right hand, with a total of 158 patients (67%). In the right hand, the middle finger was the most affected (45%). Of the 237 patients, 80 of them had obesity (34%), 86 had type 2 diabetes mellitus (36%), 95 had systemic arterial hypertension (40%). Open technique was performed in 190 (80%) patients, while percutaneous technique was performed in 47 (20%) of them. Conclusion: The female sex was twice as frequent, and the middle finger and thumb were the most affected. Most of the patients received surgical treatment with open approach and percutaneous approach in 20% of them.

Detection of Helicobacter pylori resistance to clarithromycin and fluoroquinolones in Brazil:A national survey

AIM To evaluate bacterial resistance to clarithromycin and fluoroquinolones in Brazil using molecular *** The primary antibiotic resistance rates of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) were determined from November 2012 to March 2015 in the southern,south-Eastern,Northern,North-Eastern,and Central-Western regions of Brazil. four hundred ninety H. pylori patients [66% female,mean age 43 years(range: 18-79)] who had never been previously treated for this infection were enrolled. All patients underwent gastroscopy with antrum and corpus biopsies and molecular testing using geno Type Helico DR(Hain Life science,germany). This test was performed to detect the presence of H. pylori and to identify point mutations in the genes responsible for clarithromycin and fluoroquinolone resistance. The molecular procedure was divided into three steps: DNA extraction from the biopsies,multiplex amplification,and reverse hybridization. REsULTs Clarithromycin resistance was found in 83(16.9%) patients,and fluoroquinolone resistance was found in 66(13.5%) patients. There was no statistical difference in resistance to either clarithromycin or fluoroquinolones(p = 0.55 and p = 0.06,respectively) among the different regions of Brazil. Dual resistance to clarithromycin and fluoroquinolones was found in 4.3%(21/490) of patients. The A2147 g mutation was present in 90.4%(75/83),A2146 g in 16.9%(14/83) and A2146 C in 3.6%(3/83) of clarithromycin-resistant patients. In 10.8%(9/83) of clarithromycin-resistant samples,more than 01 mutation in the 23 s r RNA gene was noticed. In fluoroquinolone-resistant samples,37.9%(25/66) showed mutations not specified by the geno Type Helico DR test. D91 N mutation was observed in 34.8%(23/66),D91 g in 18.1%(12/66),N87 K in 16.6%(11/66) and D91 Y in 13.6%(9/66) of cases. Among fluoroquinolone-resistant samples,37.9%(25/66) showed mutations not specified by the geno Type Helico DR test. CONCLUsION The H. pylori clarithromycin resistance rate in Brazil is
