ENSO impacts on litter stocks and water holding capacity in secondary forests in eastern Amazonia

Among the impacts of climate change,there is the intensification of phenomena such as the El Niño South-ern Oscillation(ENSO)responsible for El Niño and La Niñ***,understanding their effects on the functional pro-cesses of forests is ***,this study evaluated the effects of ENSO on litter stock and water holding capac-ity(WHC)in a successional forest in eastern *** occurred in periods with the most rainfall in El Niño(2019)and least in La Niña(2021)*** permanent plots were used to sample *** effects were evident for WHC,higher during El Niñ***,this influence was not clear for litter,as only in the rainy season effects were *** was a positive correlation of WHC with precipitation and humidity,while litter stocks were negatively correlated with temperature and wind *** the subject of this study requires long-term assessments,preliminary results suggests that,depending on the intensity of ENSO,forest functional processes can be strongly impacted and *** conclusion reinforces warnings by the scientific community about the impacts of climate change on the maintenance of litter stocks,decomposition and,consequently,the biogeochemical cycle and essential ecosystem services for the maintenance of Amazonia *** need to develop long-term research to understand the effects of climatic change on litter stocks and water holding capacity is highlighted,especially in Amazonia.

This study investigated the effects of yerba mate consumption, a South American beverage, on cardiac remodeling in rats. For this purpose, 24 male Wistar rats were divided into Control Group (CG) which received filtered water and a standard diet, and Yerba Mate Group (YM), 6 g of Ilex paraguariensis in 100 ml water and the same diet, for 30 days. The YM group showed a reduction in final body weight and food consumption without altering weight gain. Regarding cardiac remodeling, the YM group exhibited a decrease in the right ventricle weight/final body weight ratio, suggesting cardiac atrophy, without affecting the atria and left ventricle. There was no change in cardiomyocyte area or nuclear fractal dimension in both groups. However, animals that consumed yerba mate showed increased collagen deposition and a smaller fractal dimension in the left ventricle. The consumption of yerba mate at room temperature for 30 days induced changes in cardiac remodeling, as evidenced by increased collagen deposition and alterations in fractal dimension in the left ventricle.

OI 630.0 nm airglow observations,from a new observatory at Bom Jesus de Lapa,were used to study the interaction between EPBs(Equatorial Plasma Bubbles)and the MSTID(Medium-Scale Traveling Ionospheric Disturbance)over the Northeast region in *** the night of September 16 to 17,2020,an EPB was observed propagating eastward,in an apparent fossil stage,until it interacted with a dark band electrified MSTID(e MSTID).After the interaction,four EPBs merged,followed by an abrupt southward development and *** of the data suggests that an eastward polarization electric field,induced by the dark band e MSTID,forced the EPB into an upward drift,growing latitudinally along the magnetic field lines and then bifurcating.

Molecular evaluation of glutathione S transferase family genes in patients with sporadic colorectal cancer

AIM To evaluate the association between polymorphismsin glutathione S transferases(GSTs) and the risk of sporadic colorectal cancer(SCRC), tumor progression and the survival of *** A case-control study of 970 individuals from the Brazilian population was conducted(232 individuals from the case group with colorectal cancer and 738 individuals from the control group without a history of cancer). PCR multiplex and PCR-RFLP techniques were used to genotype the GST polymorphisms. The tumors were categorized according to the TNM classification: tumor extension(T), affected lymph nodes(N), and presence of metastasis(M). Logistic regression, multiple logistic regression and survival analysis were used to analyze the data. The results are presented in terms of odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(CI). The level of significance was set at 5%(P ≤ 0.05).RESULTS Age equal to or over 62 years(OR = 8.79; 95%CI: 5.90-13.09, P der(OR = 2.91; 95%CI: 1.74-4.37; P < 0.01) were associated with increased risk of SCRC. Analysis of the polymorphisms revealed an association between the GSTM1 polymorphisms and a risk of SCRC(OR = 1.45; 95%CI: 1.06-2.00; P = 0.02), as well as between GSTT1 and a reduced risk of the disease(OR = 0.65; 95%CI: 0.43-0.98; P = 0.04). An interaction between the presence of the wild-type allele of GSTP1 Ile105 Val polymorphism and tobacco consumption on risk of SCRC(OR = 2.33; 95%CI: 1.34-4.05; P = 0.05) was observed. There was an association between the GSTM1 null genotype and the presence of advanced tumors(OR = 2.33; 95%CI: 1.23-4.41; P = 0.009), as well as increased risk of SCRC in the presence of a combination of GSTT1 non-null/GSTM1 null genotypes(OR = 1.50; 95%CI: 1.03-2.19; P = 0.03) and GSTT1 non-null/GSTM1 null/GSTP1 Val~*(OR = 1.85; 95%CI: 1.01-3.36, P = 0.04). BACKGROUND Toll-like receptor-2(TLR2) is responsible for recognizing Helicobacter pylori(***) and activating the immune response. Polymorphisms in TLR2 may modulate gastric *** To evaluate whether the TLR2 19216 T/C(rs3804099) and TLR2-196 to-174 ins/del(rs111200466) polymorphisms contribute to gastric carcinogenesis in the Brazilian population, and to determine the influence of both polymorphisms and H. pylori infection on TLR2 mRNA *** DNA was extracted from 854 peripheral blood leukocyte or gastric tissue samples[202 gastric cancer(GC), 269 chronic gastritis(CG), and 383 control/healthy(C)]and genotyped by allele-specific PCR or restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP)-PCR. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction by Taq Man■ assay was used to quantify TLR2 mRNA levels in fresh gastric tissues(48 GC, 36 CG, and 14 C).RESULTS Regarding the TLR2-196 to -174 polymorphism, the ins/del and del/del genotypes were associated with a higher risk of GC by comparison with the C in all of the analyzed inheritance models(codominant, dominant, recessive, overdominant and log-additive;P del polymorphism had an increased risk of gastric carcinogenesis [codominant(P =0.0120), dominant(P = 0.0051), overdominant(P = 0.0240) and log-additive(P =0.0030)], while TLR2 19216 T/C was associated with a protective effect[codominant(P = 0.0039), dominant(P < 0.0001), overdominant(P = 0.0097) and log-additive(P = 0.0021)]. Rare earth(Ⅲ)diphenyl-4-amine sulfonates(RE(DAS)3·xH2O,RE=Eu^3+,Tb^3+)phosphors were synthesized by precursor method from barium diphenyl-4-amine sulfonate and rare earth ***,TG/DSC coupled to mass spectrometry(TG/DSC/MS),X-ray powder diffraction(XPD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and photo luminesce nce(PL)spectroscopy were utilized to structurally and morphologically characterize the *** decomposition of Eu(DAS)3·7H2O and Tb(DAS)3·2H2O at 973 K under dynamic air atmosphere results in crystalline Eu2O2SO4 and Tb2O2SO4 materials,***,MS spectra reveal the liberation of thermal decomposition products of precursors,largely as CO2,NO2 and SO2 *** diphenyl-4-amine sulfonate(DAS)ligand demonstrats a good stabilizing property for Eu^3+and Tb^3+*** Eu(DAS)3·7H2O and Tb(DAS)3·2H2O compounds display efficient red and green emissions,under UV excitation,arising from the 5D0→7FJ(J=0-4)and 5D4→7FJ(J=0-6)transitions of the Eu^3+and Tb^3+ions,respectively.

Dual-delay-Path Ring Oscillator with Self-Biased delay Cells for Clock Generation

This work summarizes the structure and operating features of a high-performance 3-stage dual-delay-path (DDP) voltage-controlled ring oscillator (VCRO) with self-biased delay cells for Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) structurebased clock generation and digital system driving. For a voltage supply VDD = 1.8 V, the resulting set of performance parameters include power consumption PDC = 4.68 mW and phase noise PN@1MHz = -107.8 dBc/Hz. From the trade-off involving PDC and PN, a system level high performance is obtained considering a reference figure-of-merit ( FoM = -224 dBc/Hz ). Implemented at schematic level by applying CMOS-based technology (UMC L180), the proposed VCRO was designed at Cadence environment and optimized at MunEDA WiCkeD tool.

The by-catch fauna of the shrimp fishery includes a number of marine invertebrates that are discarded because they do not have commercial *** order to try to add some value to these materials,we analyzed the chemical composition of the starfish Luidia senegalensis collected in the Brazilian coast as a consequence of the trawling fishery *** order to access their chemical composition,we used a combination of solid phase extraction(SPE)followed by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionization ion trap tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-ESI-IT-MSn).Luidia sene-galensis contains asterosaponins,which are sulphated glycosilated steroids,containing five and six sugar moieties,in addition to *** study helped us to support the presence of important and potentially bioactive compounds in invertebrates associated to the by-catch fauna of the shrimp fishery,using a fast and efficient method.
