Laser powder bed fusion(LPbF)for the fabrication of dense components used for tooling applications,is highly *** stresses,which evolve in the additively manufactured part,are inherent to LPbF *** additional stress contribution in high-carbon steels arises from the austenite-to-martensite phase transformation,which may eventually lead to cracking or even *** an alternative to pre-heating the base plate,which is not striven by industry,lowering the martensite content which forms in the part,is essential for the fabrication of dense parts by LPbF of high-carbon tool steels which are then adapted to *** this study,a successful strategy demonstrates the processing of the fe85Cr4Mo1V1W8C1(wt%)high-carbon steel by LPbF into dense parts(99.8%).The hierarchical microstructure consists of austenitic and martensitic grains separated by elemental segregations in which nanoscopic carbide particles form a network.A high density of microsegregation was observed at the molten pool boundary ultimately forming a *** LPbF-fabricated steel shows a yield strength,ultimate compressive stress,and total strain of 1210 MPa,3556 MPa,and 27.4%,*** mechanical and wear performance is rated against the industrially employed and highly wear-resistant 1.2379 tool steel taken as the *** its lower macro-hardness,the LPbF steel(58.6 HRC,0.0061 mm^(3) Nm^(-1))shows a higher wear resistance than the reference steel(62.6 HRC,0.0078 mm^(3) Nm^(-1)).This behavior results from the wear-induced formation of martensite in a microscale thick layer directly at the worn surface,as it was proven via high-energy X-ray diffraction mapping.

Role of monocytes and macrophages in experimental and human acute liver failure

Acute liver failure (ALF) is a devastating clinical syndrome characterised by progressive encephalopathy, coagulopathy, and circulatory dysfunction, which commonly leads to multiorgan failure and death. Central to the pathogenesis of ALF is activation of the immune system with mobilisation of cellular effectors and massive production of cytokines. As key components of the innate immune system, monocytes and macrophages are postulated to play a central role in the initiation, progression and resolution of ALF. ALF in humans follows a rapidly progressive clinical course that poses inherent difficulties in delineating the role of these pivotal immune cells. Therefore, a number of experimental models have been used to study the pathogenesis of ALF. Here we consider the evidence from experimental and human studies of ALF on the role of monocytes and macrophages in acute hepatic injury and the ensuing extrahepatic manifestations, including functional monocyte deactivation and multiple organ failure.

Enabling Virtual Met Masts for wind energy applications through machinelearning-methods

As wind is the basis of all wind energy projects, a precise knowledge about its availability is needed. For ananalysis of the site-specific wind conditions, Virtual Meteorological Masts (VMMs) are frequently used. VMMsmake use of site calibrated numerical data to provide precise wind estimates during all phases of a wind energyproject. Typically, numerical data are used for the long-term correlation that is required for estimating theyield of new wind farm projects. However, VMMs can also be used to fill data gaps or during the operationalphase as an additional reference data set to detect degrading sensors. The value of a VMM directly dependson its ability and precision to reproduce site-specific environmental conditions. Commonly, linear regressionis used as state of the art to correct reference data to the site-specific conditions. In this study, a frameworkof 10 different machine-learning methods is tested to investigated the benefit of more advanced methods ontwo offshore and one onshore site. We find significantly improving correlations between the VMMs and the reference data when using more advanced methods and present the most promising ones. The K-NearestNeighbors and Adaboost regressors show the best results in our study, but Multi-Output Mixture of GaussianProcesses is also very promising. The use of more advanced regression models lead to decreased uncertainties;hence those methods should find its way into industrial applications. The recommended regression models canserve as a starting point for the development of end-user applications and services.

Comparison of clinical outcomes between unrelated single umbilical cord blood and"ex-vivo"T-cell depleted haploidentical transplantation in children with hematological malignancies

background Over the last two decades,umbilical cord blood(UCb)and haploidentical transplantation(HaploHSCT)have emerged as alternative sources of hematopoietic stem cell for allogeneic *** are few retrospective studies and no prospective studies comparing both types of alternative transplantation in pediatric *** We analyzed the data of 134 children with hematological malignancies who received a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from a single umbilical cord blood(UCb)(n=42)or an"tex-vivo"T-cell depleted transplant from a haploi-dentical-related donor(HaploHSCT)(n=92)between 1996 and *** recovery was faster after HaploHSCT than the UCb transplant group(median times to neutrophil and platelet recovery:13 vs.16 days,10 vs.57 days,respectively)(Pbased on NK and CD8+T cells compared with the UCb ***,after the first year *** had a lower number of CD4+ T and b lymphocytes compared with the UCb transplant *** cumulative incidence of TRM was 29±8%in the HaploHSCT group versus 40±5%in the UCb *** incidence was 21±7%in the HaploHSCT group and 19±8%in the UCb *** of DFS was 58±8%in the HaploHSCT group versus 40±9%in the UCb group(P=0.051).Conclusions TCD haploidentical transplant is associated with advantages in terms of engraftment and early immune reconstitution *** haploidentical transplant was associated with lower incidence of infectious and non-infectious complications,especially in the early phases of the transplant compared with UCb transplant ***,there are no advantages in transplant outcomes compared with UCb transplant.

Evaluation of the Physicochemical Parameters of Cow’s Fresh Milk in Shkodra

Milk is universally recognized as complete food, which contains essential components for human nutrition. Physicochemical analysis constitutes an important device that monitors its quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the physicochemical characteristics of fresh cow milk in samples taken in the region of Shkodra and Lezha and compare it to European quality standards. Results of the analyses were statistically processed by the Minitab 17 statistical program. Results showed that there is no significant difference (P > 0.05) in fat, protein, lactose and density value, while there is significant difference (P bility of physicochemical parameters of milk, with variation according to the region where samples were gathered.
