In this paper,the photocatalytic activity of industrial titanium dioxide(TiO2)based nacreous pigments was researched as functional building materials for photocatalytic NO *** industrial TiO2 based nacreous pigments were selected to estimate the photocatalytic activity for NO *** study is a good proof that pearlescent pigments can eliminate NO,and its performance is positively correlated with its titanium dioxide *** this research will widen the application of nacreous pigments in functional building materials,and provide a new way to eliminate in door nitric oxide pollution.

Toxic effects of three perfluorinated or polyfluorinated compounds(PFCs)on two strains of freshwater algae:Implications for ecological risk assessments

Perfluorinated or polyfluorinated compounds(PFCs)continue entering to the environmental as individuals or mixtures,but their toxicological information remains largely ***,we investigated the toxic effects and ecological risks of Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid(PFOS)and its substitutes on prokaryotes(Chlorella vulgaris)and eukaryotes(Microcystis aeruginosa).Based on the calculated EC50 values,the results showed that PFOS was significantly more toxic to both algae than its alternatives including Perfluorobutane sulfonic acid(PFBS)and 6:2 Fluoromodulated sulfonates(6:2 FTS),and the PFOS-PFBS mixture was more toxic to both algae than the other two PFC *** action mode of binary PFC mixtures on Chlorella vulgaris was mainly shown as antagonistic and on Microcystis aeruginosa as synergistic,by using Combination index(CI)model coupled with Monte Carlo *** mean risk quotient(RQ)value of three individual PFCs and their mixtures were all below the threshold of 10^(−1),but the risk of those binary mixtures were higher than that of PFCs individually because of their synergistic *** findings contribute to enhance the understanding of the toxicological information and ecological risks of emerging PFCs and provide a scientific basis for their pollution control.

t-BuOK-promoted synthesis of bis（indolyl）arylmethunes from aromatic aldehydes and indoles wasachieved. Substrates bearing different functional groups, especially groups which are sensitive to acidic media, arewell tolerated under the optimal condition, making this reaction particularly attractive for expanding the scope of thepresent protocols that provides bis（1H-indol-3-yl）arylmethanes.

A series of new substituted phenyl-coupled heterocyclic ethylamide derivatives was designed and synthe- sized as anti-influenza agents. In vitro anti-influenza A（A/PR/8/34 H1N1 strain） activities of these compounds were investigated and compared to those of the commercial antiviral drugs（Arbidol and Ribavirin） against the influenza. Specifically, among these twelve compounds exhibiting moderate levels of antiviral activity against influenza A, compounds 30c and 30d are the most effective ones, and as efficacious as the positive control Ribavirin and much more effective than Ingavirin and Arbidol, indicating that they are prospective candidates for further exploration. These results are also consistent with the docking study results in terms of the design of compounds targeting in- fluenza A via viral nucleoprotein.

1Xylotrechus rusticus （linnaeus） is one of the most destruc-tive woodborers in northeast China;it damages poplar and is listed as a domestic forestry quarantine pest. Overwintering larvae were collected during October 2012 and March 2013 in Harbin, China, to quantify indi-cators related to the insect’s overwintering strategy and the major cryo-protectants. The supercooling points （SCPs）, which ranged from-14.7＆#176;C to -2.9＆#176;C, were higher than the lethal temperatures of LT50 （-33.64＆#176;C） and LT99 （-40.17＆#176;C） after 24 h exposure. , also the minimum mean daily temperature （-24.5＆#176;C） and mean monthly temperature （-18.0＆#176;C） at the sampling site in January during 2008-2012. Thus, X. rusticus is a typical freezing-tolerant insect. Glycerol serves as a major cryoprotectant for overwintering larvae , because it was the only polyol accumulated during the winter and it also had a significant negative correlation with the SCP （p=0.033, R=0.907）. The glycogen and lipid are major sources of ener-gy and their levels decreased substantially in the middle of overwintering, when glycogen had a significant correlation with the SCP （p= 0.006, R=0.971） whereas the lipid contents did not. Moreover, inter-conversions between glycerol and glycogen, as well as mannose and glycogen, were suggested by their negative correlations. The water content did not change obviously during the winter and was not correlated with the SCP. The free amino acids in the hemolymph and the total protein contents of the bodies of larvae changed significantly during winter, although both had no correlations with the SCP.

Objective To assess the predictive value of serum uric acid levels for cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in a large prospective population based *** The study was based on 3648 participants in Shanghai and Beijing,who were inpatients with high cardiovascular(CV) risk at baseline (2004.7 to 2005.1),and blood was ***-up for death from cardiovascular disease and any cause was complete until January 1,*** The mean follow-up was 1 *** were 303 deaths during follow-up,of which 121 were *** mortality rates were 8.3 % for all patients,6.8% for female patients (116/1715),and 9.7% (187/1933) for male *** men,patients in the lower and higher uric acid groups had increased cardiac and overall mortality risks compared with patients in the normal uric acid *** relation was found in women but not statistically *** adjusting for other conventional risk factors (age,diabetes,hypertension,diuretic use and smoking),baseline uric acid level was still associated with increased risk for death from cardiovascular disease (P=0.005),or death from all causes (P=0.014) Conclusion Our data suggest that abnormal serum uric acid levels are independently and significantly associated with risk of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality.(J Geriatr Cardiol 2008;5:15-20)
