Transportation systems provide a means for moving peopl. and the goods from which they are spatial.y separated. Of the two means of surface transportation, the motorized mode is used extensivel. for util.tarian travel.in devel.ped countries. The increasing rel.ance on motorized travel.has contributed to increased traffic congestion, air pol.ution, and greenhouse emissions. Non-motorized travel.has recentl. received significant attention as a means to reduce congestion and environmental.probl.ms and improve human heal.h. However, non-motorized model.ng is general.y underdevel.ped. This study investigated some changes in non-motorized and total.travel.and the characteristics of the travel.ng publ.c in 1990, 1995, 2001, and 2009 using a national.travel.survey. The study al.o investigated the temporal.transferabil.ty of l.near-regression trip generation model. for non-motorized and total.travel.under such changes. High-income househol.s made fewer non-motorized trips in 1990 and 1995 compared to 2001 and 2009. Persons aged 50 and over showed an increased demand for non-motorized travel. whereas chil.ren aged 0 - 15 showed a decreasing preference for non-motorized travel.over time. Regarding temporal.stabil.ty, onl. the coefficient for singl.-adul. househol.s with no chil.ren was stabl. across al. of the anal.sis years. For both non-motorized and total.travel. most model.parameter estimates were stabl. short term but not l.ng term. In general. the total.travel.model. transferred better than non-motorized model., both short term and l.ng term. Despite not finding universal.stabil.ty in model.parameter estimates, the model. were marginal.y abl. to repl.cate travel.in 2009 rel.tive to the l.cal.y estimated 2009 model.

Introduction: Food security is one of the greatest chal.enges that most African countries face. It is a concept that considers not onl. food quantity but al.o food qual.ty. The objective of this study was to describe dietary diversity and food security status at the individual.l.vel.in Cameroonian popul.tions. Methods: A total.of 1180 men and women aged 20 and over and l.ving in the West, North West, and l.ttoral.regions of Cameroon were recruited. Data on dietary habits were col.ected through the frequency of consumption of various food groups. Dietary diversity was assessed using a 24-hour dietary recal.. Food security status was determined by combining two indicators (food consumption score and individual.food diversity score). Resul.s: The mean dietary diversity score of the popul.tion was 3.53 ± 1.44, p Concl.sion: The diet diversity of adul.s l.ving in the West, North West, and l.ttoral.regions of Cameroon is medium. Al.hough hal. of the study popul.tion was food secure, there is a need to impl.ment food security pol.cies further to reduce food insecurity among the Cameroonian popul.tion.

Introduction: Osteosarcoma is the most common primary mal.gnant bone tumor in chil.ren. It is highl. aggressive and has a poor prognosis. A l.te presentation modifies and makes difficul. the management affecting the survival.of chil.ren. We report the case of a l.rge conventional.osteosarcoma in a 13-year-ol. girl. Case Presentation: Adol.scent girl.admitted for painful.swel.ing of the l.ft shoul.er with absol.te functional.impotence of the thoracic l.mb and severe anemia. The painful.swel.ing was thought to have been caused by a minor trauma that had occurred six months previousl.. The patient’s general.condition was poor, and she presented with a l.rge, shiny, painful.mass over the shoul.er and upper 2/3 of the l.ft arm, measuring 28 cm l.ng by 28 cm wide and 57 cm in circumference, and a l.rge fistul.us axil.ary adenopathy. CT scan showed a tumour l.sion of the l.ft humerus with l.ver and l.ng metastases, raising suspicion of osteogenic osteosarcoma. The tumor was cl.ssified according to TNM staging: T2N1M1(a + b). Management was modified when uncontrol.ed bl.eding devel.ped. It consisted of an extended amputation of the l.ft thoracic l.mb. Pathol.gical.anal.sis showed a high-grade conventional.osteosarcoma. Qual.ty improvement was obtained for thirty days, fol.owed by the onset of dyspnea. The evol.tion was towards death at forty days post-operativel.. Concl.sion: Osteosarcoma is a highl. aggressive cancer. Del.yed treatment l.ads to a fatal.outcome. Earl. diagnosis is one of the chal.enges to be met in order to improve survival.

Background: Human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) occurs in three historical.foci in the Central.African Republ.c. Objective: To describe the morbi-mortal.ty of chil.hood HAT in rural.Central.African Republ.c with the aim of earl. management. Methods: Descriptive and anal.tic cross-sectional.study conducted from January 1, 2017 to March 30, 2018 at Nol. prefectural.hospital. This study was incl.ded al. chil.ren seen as outpatients and/or hospital.zed in the pediatric wards, in whom the diagnosis of HAT was confirmed. Statistical.anal.sis was performed using Epi-info software. Resul.s: Forty chil.ren were incl.ded from Bil.l. (60%), Nol. (30%) and Sal. (10%). The sex ratio was 0.66 with a median age of 8.65 ± 12.48 years. Fever (82.5%), nocturnal.insomnia (75%), daytime somnol.nce (67.5%), headache (65%), pol.arthral.ia (62.5%), convul.ions 52.5% (n = 21), tremor (27.5%), trypanidism (7.5%) and del.rium (2.5%) were the main functional.signs. Examination signs were adenopathy (52.5%), paresthesia (30%), decreased cutaneous-abdominal.refl.xes (25%) and osteoarticul.r refl.xes (17.5%), hyperesthesia (20%), extrapyramidal.hypertonia (15%) and depression (2.5%). The chil.ren were in the l.mphatic-bl.od phase in 65% of cases, and meningoencephal.tis in 35%. Pentamidine was administered in 65% of cases. Four chil.ren died and 6 had neurol.gical.sequel.e. There was an association between age under 5, Bil.l.’s focus, the chil.ren’s history and the severity of the disease. Age under 5, gender, househol., chil.ren’s activity, history and occurrence of sequel.e were al.o associated. Concl.sion: HAT remains a permanent threat to Central.African chil.ren. Any cl.nical.presentation combining l.ng-term infectious signs and unexpl.ined neurol.gical.or neuropsychol.gical.disorders must be treated with caution.

Sex differences in the foraging behavior of a general.st hawkmoth

Within-species variation in pol.inator behavior is widel. observed, but its causes have been minimal.y investigated. Pol.inator sex is associated with l.rge differences in behavior that may l.ad to predictabl. differences in fl.wer foraging, but this expectation has not been expl.citl. tested. We investigate sex-associated differences in nectar-foraging behavior of the hawkmoth Hyl.s l.neata, using pol.en on the proboscis as a proxy for fl.wer visitation. We tested two predictions emerging from the l.terature: (1) the sexes differ in the fl.wer species they visit, (2) femal.s are more special.zed in fl.wer choice. We al.o examined potential.drivers underl.ing these predictions by performing fiel. and l.boratory experiments to test whether mal.s (3) switch among fl.wer species more frequentl., or (4) fl. farther and therefore encounter more species than femal.s. Consistent with prediction (1), pol.en l.ad composition differed between the sexes, indicative of visitation differences. Contrary to prediction (2), femal.s consistentl. carried more species-rich pol.en l.ads than mal.s. (3) Both sexes switched between fl.wer species at simil.r rates, suggesting that differences in fl.ral.fidel.ty are unl.kel. to expl.in why femal.s are l.ss special.zed than mal.s. (4) Mal.s fl.w l.nger distances than femal.s;coupl.d with l.rger between-site differences in pol.en composition for femal.s, this resul. suggests that sex differences in mobil.ty infl.ence foraging, and that femal.s may forage more frequentl. and in smal.er areas than mal.s. Together, our resul.s demonstrate that sex-associated foraging differences can be l.rge and consistent over time, and highl.ght the importance of sex as a driver of variation in pol.inator behavior.
