Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) is characterized by abnormalities in blood oxygenation caused by the presence of intrapulmonary vascular dilations (IPVD) in the context of liver disease, generally at a cirrhotic stage. Knowledge about the subject is still only partial. The majority of the information about the etiopathogenesis of HPS has been obtained through experiments on animals. Reported prevalence in patients who are candidates for a liver transplantation (LT) varies between 4% and 32%, with a predominance of mild or moderate cases. Although it is generally asymptomatic it does have an impact on their quality of life and survival. The diagnosis requires taking an arterial blood gas sample of a seated patient with alveolar-arterial oxygen gradient (AaO2) ≥ 15 mm Hg, or ≥ 20 mm Hg in those over 64 years of age. The IPVD are identified through a transthoracic contrast echocardiography or a macroaggregated albumin lung perfusion scan (99mTc-MAA). There is currently no effective medical treatment. LT has been shown to reverse the syndrome and improve survival rates, even in severe cases. Therefore the policy of prioritizing LT would appear to increase survival rates. This paper takes a critical and clinical look at the current understanding of HPS, as well as the controversies surrounding it and possible future research.

The studied hypothesis is that the herbicide glyphosate(GLY)can affect the oxidative balance in the hydrophobic intracellular medium in non-target Chlorella vulgaris *** GLY and RoundUp(RUP)supplementation,affected the growth profile.A significant 42%decrease in the cellular biomass in stationary(St)phase was observed in cultures supplemented with either 5μM of GLY or RUP,as compared to control *** treatment with 0.3μM of GLY generated non-significant effects on the oxidation rate of 2’,7’dichlorofluorescein diacetate(DCFH-DA),neither in exponential(Exp)nor in St phase of development,as compared to control ***,the treatment with either 5μM GLY or 0.3 and 5μM RUP lead to a significant decrease in the DCFH-DA oxidation rate,as compared to control *** lipid radical(LR●)generation rate,detected by Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy(EPR),was significantly increased in the presence of RUP,in Lag and Exp phase of *** non-enzymatic antioxidants,α-Tocopherol(α-T)andβ-Carotene(β-C),are aimed to protect membranes against the damage produced by the radical *** content ofβ-C was not significantly affected,as compared to control cultures,by any of the treatments,in both growth phases of cellular *** content ofα-T was significantly decreased by the supplementation with either 0.3 or 5μM of RUP or 5μM *** LR●/α-T ratio,used as indicator of the oxidative balance in the hydrophobic cellular media,was significantly different between samples obtained from control and RUP-exposed microalgae in both,Exp and St phase of development,with either 0.3 or 5μM *** data presented here showed evidence that suggested that oxidative balance in the hydrophobic environment was affected by either GLY or RUP.

Most redox-regulated chloroplast enzymes are reduced during the day and oxidized during the *** the reduction mechanism of light-dependent enzymes is well known,the mechanism mediating their oxidation in the dark remains *** thiol-dependent peroxidases,2-Cys peroxiredoxins (Prxs),play a key role in light-dependent reduction of chloroplast *** transfer reducing equivalents of thiols to hydrogen peroxide,suggesting the participation of these peroxidases in enzyme oxidation in the ***,we have addressed this issue by analyzing the redox state of well-known redox-regulated chloroplast enzymes in response to darkness in Arabidopsis thaliana mutants deficient in chloroplastlocalized Prxs (2-Cys Prxs A and B,Prx ⅡE,and Prx Q).Mutant plants lacking 2-Cys Prxs A and B,and plants overexpressing nADPH-dependent thioredoxin (Trx) reductase C showed delayed oxidation of chloroplast enzymes in the *** contrast,the deficiencies of Prx ⅡE or Prx Q exerted no *** vitro assays allowed the reconstitution of the pathway of reducing equivalents from reduced fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase to hydrogen peroxide mediated by Trxs and 2-Cys *** together,these results suggest that 2-Cys Prxs participate in the short-term oxidation of chloroplast enzymes in the dark.

AIM To assess the viability of orthotopic and heterotopic patient-derived pancreatic cancer xenografts implanted into nude *** This study presents a prospective experimental analytical follow-up of the development of tumours in mice upon implantation of human pancreatic adenocarcinoma samples. Specimens were obtained surgically from patients with a pathological diagnosis of pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Tumour samples from pancreatic cancer patients were transplanted into nude mice in three different locations(intraperitoneal, subcutaneous and pancreatic). Histological analysis(haematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome staining) and immunohistochemical assessment of apoptosis(TUnEL), proliferation(Ki-67), angiogenesis(CD31) and fibrogenesis(α-SMA) were performed. When a tumour xenograft reached the target size, it was reimplanted in a new nude mouse. Three sequential tumour xenograft generations were generated(F1, F2 and F3).RESULTS The overall tumour engraftment rate was 61.1%. The subcutaneous model was most effective in terms of tissue growth(69.9%), followed by intraperitoneal(57.6%) and pancreatic(55%) models. Tumour development was faster in the subcutaneous model(17.7 ± 2.6 wk) compared with the pancreatic(23.1 ± 2.3 wk) and intraperitoneal(25.0 ± 2.7 wk) models(P = 0.064). There was a progressive increase in the tumour engraftment rate over successive generations for all three models(F1 28.1% vs F2 71.4% vs F3 80.9%, P no significant differences in tumour xenograft differentiation and cell proliferation between human samples and the three experimental models among the sequential generations of tumour xenografts. However, a progressive decrease in fibrosis, fibrogenesis, tumour vascularisation and apoptosis was observed in the three experimental models compared with the human samples. Upscaling perovskite solar cell fabrication is one of the key challenges in the pathway for *** slow evaporation of frequently used solvents(DMF or DMSO) limits the fast perovskite layer crystallization,hindering their implementation in large scale deposition ***,methylamine-based precursors have demonstrated rapid crystallization,leading to uniform and specular ***,their application has been limited to MAPbI3 perovskites with limited efficiency and *** this work,we report the requirements for stabilizing α-phase of mixed cation perovskites with high amount of formamidinium by using a methylamine-based *** found that even though,there are many methods for incorporating the methylamine(MA) in precursors or films;the MA content determines stabilization of the α-phase and therefore the viscous-solution route is the only method to incorporate high amounts of *** low amounts of MA,perovskite tend to crystallize in 1D dimensional FA_(3)(MA)PbI5 phases due to the incomplete solvation of the *** contrast,high MA ratio induces a full solvation of the clusters,leading to a rapid crystallization and a full stabilization of the active 3D α-*** results open a window in the development and understanding of new precursors for the fabrication of high efficient,stable and scalable perovskite devices.

BACKGROUnD no dynamic technique, such as tendon transfer, has been described for scapular winging due to levator scapulae or rhomboid major and minor palsies resulting from an isolated dorsal scapular nerve injury. Thus, we evaluated how the contralateral trapezius compound osteomuscular flap transfer would work in stabilizing lateral scapular winging, and the case is reported here. A literature review was also conducted, and articles relevant to the case are *** SUMMARY A 37-year-old male patient who had sustained an isolated dorsal scapular nerve injury underwent reconstructive surgery using the contralateral trapezius compound osteomuscular flap transfer technique to treat scapular winging and the consequent pain, and to restore function from the shoulder impairment. As a result, the involved shoulder showed an improved Constant-Murley score, from19.5% to 81.88%.COnCLUSIOn Contralateral trapezius osteomuscular flap transfer succeeded in stabilizing scapular winging in this case, improving shoulder function and affording pain relief.
