some intensive dairy operations in Mexico are contributing to large,negative environmental impacts,especially in regions dominated by high concentrations of *** manure inputs plus additional nitrogen(N)fertilizer has,in some cases,resulted in background nitrate–nitrogen(NO3–N)levels in irrigation water that are so high,it is not safe for human *** reason is that commercial farmers in this region are currently not using any method to rapidly calculate N budgets based on their practices,N inputs and/or crop N *** Nitrogen Index,a quick tool that can be used to conduct an assessment within a few minutes,was developed for Mexico,but needed further testing under commercial field *** conducted studies in 2010 and 2011 and collected soil and crop information from several commercial farming operations to test the *** index accurately assessed(Po0.0001)residual soil nitrate after harvesting corn(Zea mays L.)and oats(Avena sativa L.);and also accurately assessed the N uptake of these crops(Po0.01).The Mexico N Index is a tool that can be used to quickly conduct N balances,show when N is being over-applied,and help reduce over-application,thus reducing N losses to the environment and improving management of dairy forage systems in Mexico.

In this paper, simulated and experimental results on the conical tank level control are presented. PI/PID controllers of integer order （IO） as well as of fractional order （FO） are studied and compared. The tuning parameters are obtained first by using root locus （RL） and Ziegler and Nichols methods, for comparison purposes. Next, particle swarm optimization （PsO） is employed to determine the optimal controllers＇ parameters using as fitness function the integral of the absolute value of tracking error （IAE）. From the experimental results it is concluded that PI/FOPI are the controllers presenting the lowest IAE indexes, whereas PID/FOPID controllers present the lowest energy consumption by the control signal.

A new control scheme for induction motors is proposed in the present paper, applying the interconnection and damping assignment-passivity based control （IDA-PBC） method. The scheme is based exclusively on passivity based control, without restricting the input frequency as it is done in field oriented control （FOC）. A port-controlled Hamiltonian （PCH） model of the induction motor is deduced to make the interconnection and damping of energy explicit on the scheme. The proposed controller is validated under computational simulations and experimental tests using an inverter prototype.

An AlCoCuCrFeNiTi high-entropy alloy(HEA) was prepared by mechanical alloying and sintering to study the effect of Ti addition to the widely studied AlCoCuCrFeNi system. The structural and microstructural characteristics were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(sEM), and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The formation of four micrometric phases was detected: a Cu-rich phase with a face-centered cubic(fcc) structure, a body-centered cubic(bcc) solid solution with Cu-rich plate-like precipitates(fcc), an ordered bcc phase, and a tetragonal structure. The XRD patterns corroborate the presence of a mixture of bcc-, fcc-, and tetragonal-structured phases. The Vickers hardness of the alloy under study was more than twice that of the AlCoCuCrFeNi alloy. Nanoindentation tests were performed to evaluate the mechanical response of the individual phases to elucidate the relationship between chemical composition, crystal structure, and mechanical performance of the multiphase microstructure of the AlCoCuCrFeNiTi HEA.

Pancreatic adenosquamous carcinoma and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm in a CDKN2A germline mutation carrier

A 69-year-old woman from a kindred with familial atypical multiple mole melanoma and carrier of a germline mutation in CDKN2A, presented with abdominal pain caused by a solid-cystic pancreatic mass. The patient had an abdominal computed tomography three years before in which there was no evidence of pancreatic lesion. The endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration showed adenocarcinoma with squamous component. After surgical resection the final diagnosis was adenosquamous pancreatic carcinoma(AsPC) arising in an intraductal papillar mucinous neoplasm(IPMN). Adenosquamous carcinomas are uncommon in the pancreas and have rarely been described in association with IPMNs. It has worse prognosis than the ordinary pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and some distinct features. We review the clinical, imaging, pathologic and molecular aspects of AsPC. Differential diagnosis with contamination, squamous metaplasia and pancreatic metastases from a distant squamous carcinoma is discussed. Besides, the case is an accelerated model of the adenoma(IPMN)-carcinoma sequence probably due to the CDKN2A ger-mline mutation. somatic CDKN2A mutations are commonevents in the early steps of sporadic pancreatic cancer, but germline mutation carriers have a significantly higher risk of pancreatic carcinoma.

The reduction of helminth eggs, fecal coliforms and somatic coliphages present in sewage sludge after treatments and abatement by application to soil was determined. Traditional stabilization processes produced small changes in the concentrations of the parameters studied. In contrast, thermal treatments and liming produced dramatic reductions. Fecal coliforms were the most affected by both types of treatments;somatic coliphages showed some persistence after 30 minutes at 60°C;and both somatic coliphages and helminth eggs showed some persistence to storage in quick lime. However, both treatments supplied biosolid suitable for unrestricted application in agriculture. Abatement in soils in the climatic conditions tested (mild to cold temperatures and high relative humidity) was slow and took several months to reach the background levels. These results suggest that environmental conditions (temperature and humidity) play the main role in inactivating the microorganisms, since abatement was similar in different soil types. The extended permanence of pathogens and microbial indicators in soil after the application of treated sludges indicates that, in the normal weather conditions of the areas where the study was performed and the amounts of sludges applied, contaminant microbes are not easily mobilized from the complex matrixes that constitute the treated sludges and that consequently in normal conditions their release as diffuse pollution is of lesser importance.

Objective: To describe the radiological, histological and immunohistochemical findings in a case of Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML) affecting the cerebellar peduncles in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Patient and Methods: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), histological picture (H.E., Kluver-Barrera) and immunohistochemical picture (GFAP, neurofilaments, CD68, JC virus) were obtained. Results: 1) Magnetic resonance imaging: Asymmetric and progressive lesions on middle cerebellar peduncles, that were hyperintense in T2/FLAIR, extended towards the pons, had no mass effect and were unmodified after intravenous contrast. 2) Histology: Marked reactive gliosis with cytopathic changes suggesting viral infection, plus demyelination areas with axonal preservation. 3) Immunohistochemistry: Marked positivity for viral (polyoma and JC virus) markers in glial cells showing cytopathic changes. Conclusions: The importance of histological and immunohistochemical diagnosis in everyday assistance;of the collaboration between clinicians, radiologists and pathologists;and the validity of postmortem studies as a key element for research and clinical quality assessment must be stressed.
