Innovate combination of sevoflurane dilution in dimethyl sulfoxide: A stability study by gas chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance

To investigate physicochemical stability of sevofuranein dimethyl sulfoxide using gas chromatography with a fame ionization detector and nuclear magnetic reso-nance （NMR）.METHODSUndiluted sevoflurane, plus dilutions 1：2, 1：5, 1：10, 1：25, and 1：50 in dimethyl sulfoxide were prepared in a vertical laminar fow cabinet class Ⅱ type B and stored at different temperatures （23 ℃, 6 ℃, and -10 ℃） for 45 d. Sterile 1 mL polypropylene amber syringes to minimize light degradation, caps and needles were used. The presence of sevofurane and its degradation products in the samples was determined by gas chroma-tography with flame ionization detector （260 ℃, 40min）, and by 1H, 19F, and proton-decoupled 19F nuclearmagnetic *** The gas chromatography analysis showed sevofluraneand dimethyl sulfoxide （DMSO） retention times were 2.7and 13.0 min, respectively. Pure DMSO injection into thecolumn resulted in two additional peaks at 2.1 and 2.8min. The same sevofurane peak at 2.7 min was observedin all the dilutions at -10 ℃, 4 ℃ and 25 ℃. The NMRspectra showed signals consistent with the sevoflurane structure in all the dilutions at -10 ℃, 4 ℃ and 25 ℃. In the 1H spectrum, two signals corresponding to the sevoflurane molecule were observed at 5.12 and 4.16 parts per million （ppm5）. In the 19F-NMR spectrum, two signals were observed at -76.77 ppm and -157.13 ppm. In the 19F NMR CPD, two signals were observed at -76.77 ppm and -157.13 ppm. The first one showed a doublet （JF-F = 3.1 Hz） which integrated by six fluorine nuclei from the hexafluoro-isopropyl group. The second signal was integrated by a fuorine atom and showed a septuplet （JF-F = 3.1 Hz）.CONCLUSIONThis study shows that different concentrations ofsevofurane in dimethyl sulfoxide retain their chemicalcomposition after exposure to different temperaturesfor a period of 45 d.

Heart diseases are the main cause of mortality in Mexico, being coronary heart disease the most frequent in the country. Its high prevalence makes important the study of the pathophysiology and the search for prognostic factors. Different genes and polymorphisms promote atherogenesis and coronary artery disease, they affect inflammatory and vascular pathological processes. Interferon regulatory factor 5 (IRF5) is associated with coronary heart disease, it promotes chronic inflammation and cytokines release;it could trigger immune reactions and its activating receptors express in the vascular endothelium. Besides, polymorphisms in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) are implied with coronary disease, they are found in angiotensinogen (AGT), angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R), angiotensin II type 2 receptor (AT2R), and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) genes. These genetic polymorphisms are associated with a prothrombotic state, endothelial dysfunction, and immune activation. Multiple experimental studies showed that chronic activation of RAAS and chronic expression of IRF5 generates an environment prone to the development of atherosclerosis, and autoimmune and cardiovascular diseases. Studying these specific genes and their relationship with coronary heart disease will allow a better understanding of the pathological process and possibly the quest for new treatments.

Posterior quadrant epilepsy surgery: case series of a South American hospital

Background Posterior quadrant epilepsy(PCE)is a type of focal epilepsy that originates in the parietal lobe,occipital lobe,and the parietal-occipital border of the temporal lobe,or in any combination of these *** has a low incidence,but it can cause a great burden in disability-adjusted life *** this retrospective cohort,patients of all ages with a diagnosis of PCE between 2006 and 2019 were evaluated in a referral center in Bogotá,Colombia.A descriptive analysis of demographic data,clinical history,imaging findings,type of surgery,histopathological diagnosis,outcome,and follow-up was performed using the Engel *** This study included refractory PCE patients of all ages who were evaluated by the epilepsy surgery group of the Hospital Universitario San ignacio from 2006 to ***,imaging and surgical variables were obtained from the medical records and *** Thirteen patients were included in the study,including 8 males and 5 *** mean age of diagnosis was 8.8 years,while the mean age of surgery was 25 *** most frequent clinical finding was intellectual *** most common findings on magnetic resonance imaging were encephalomalacia and *** 61.5%of the patients,the lateralization of video-EEG matched with brain magnetic resonance imaging *** most frequent types of surgery performed were lobectomies,lesionectomies and cortical ***-freedom was achieved in approximately one third of the patients;however,more than half of the patients were free of disabling seizures or had significant improvement after *** PCE surgery is scarcely performed worldwide,therefore the effectiveness and outcomes are quite variable in the reported *** this study,we show that patients with PCE can obtain great benefits in terms of reduction of seizures with a low risk of surgical complications,encouraging the use of this type of procedure in carefully selected patients.

Wound healing and cicatrization is a process that involves several phases. The main goal of a surgeon and specially the plastic surgeon is to achieve the best cosmetic results and avoid complications. Several tools are available to achieve the best result. One of the tools recently studied is the use of Botulinum toxin. The use of Botulinum toxin has showed to be a useful aid by improving macroscopic cosmetic changes, as histopathologic ones. The increase of the tensile strength is also one of the positive changes that come with the use of botulinum toxin.

In order to evaluate the effect of VIUSID agro on the yield response of a pak choi harvest,a randomised block experiment was designed with four treatments and three *** treatments were dosages of 0.1,0.2 and 0.3 L/ha and one *** number of leaves per plant and the fresh and dry mass of the plant were *** addition,growth indexes were evaluated,such as relative growth rate,active growth rate,harvest index and agricultural *** number of leaves per plant was significantly greater at 35 days after sowing(das)for 0.2 L/ha and 0.3 L/ha treatments,with increases of 15.0%and 14.17%relative to the *** plant length and fresh mass at the final evaluation,the treatments using higher dosages produced the best *** the active growth rate,the 0.2 L/ha dosage produced the best effects,and regarding relative growth rate,the 0.2 L/ha and 0.3 L/ha dosages produced the best results relative to the *** harvest index did not benefit from the used dosages,while a higher agricultural yield was achieved using the 0.2 L/ha and 0.3 L/ha dosages at 18.03%and 12.88%compared to the ***,VIUSID agro positively influenced the yield behaviour of pak choi.
