Outcomes following liver transplantation in intensive care unit patients

AIm:To determine feasibility of liver transplantation in patients from the intensive care unit (ICU) by estimating graft and patient ***:This single center retrospective study included 39 patients who had their first liver transplant directly from the intensive care unit and 927 non-ICU patients who were transplanted from hospital ward or home between January 2005 and December ***:In comparison to non-ICU patients,ICU patients had a higher model for end-stage liver disease (mELD) at transplant (median:37 vs 20,P mmediately prior to liver transplantation (LT) with 6 patients (15%) requiring both vasopressin and *** ICU patients (41%) were ventilator dependent immediately prior to LT with 9 patients undergoing percutaneous tracheostomy prior to ***-five ICU patients (64%) required dialysis *** 1,3 and 5 years after LT,graft survival was 76%,68% and 62% in ICU patients vs 90%,81% and 75% in non-ICU *** survival at 1,3 and 5 years after LT was 78%,70% and 65% in ICU patients vs 94%,85% and 79% in non-ICU *** formally comparing graft survival and patient survival between ICU and nonICU patients using Cox proportional hazards regression models,both graft survival [relative risk (RR):1.94,95%CI:1.09-3.48,P=0.026] and patient survival (RR:2.32,95%CI:1.26-4.27,P=0.007) were lower in ICU patients vs non-ICU patients in single variable *** findings were consistent in multivariable *** not statistically significant,graft survival was worse in both patients with cryptogenic cirrhosis (RR:3.29,P=0.056) and patients who received donor after cardiac death (DCD) grafts (RR:3.38,P=0.060).These findings reached statistical significance when considering patient survival,which was worse for patients with cryptogenic cirrhosis (RR:3.97,P=0.031) and patients who were transplanted with DCD livers (

Salsolinol(1-methyl-6,7-dihydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline,Sal)is a catechol isoquinoline that causes neurotoxicity and shares structural similarity with 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine,an environmental toxin that causes Parkinson's ***,the mechanism by which Sal mediates dopaminergic neuronal death remains *** this study,we found that Sal significantly enhanced the global level of N~6-methyladenosine(m~6A)RNA methylation in PC12 cells,mainly by inducing the downregulation of the expression of m~6A demethylases fat mass and obesity-associated protein(FTO)and alk B homolog 5(ALKBH5).RNA sequencing analysis showed that Sal downregulated the Hippo signaling *** m~6A reader YTH domain-containing family protein 2(YTHDF2)promoted the degradation of m~6A-containing Yes-associated protein 1(YAP1)mRNA,which is a downstream key effector in the Hippo signaling ***,downregulation of YAP1 promoted autophagy,indicating that the mutual regulation between YAP1 and autophagy can lead to *** findings reveal the role of Sal on m~6A RNA methylation and suggest that Sal may act as an RNA methylation inducer mediating dopaminergic neuronal death through YAP1 and *** results provide greater insights into the neurotoxic effects of catechol isoquinolines compared with other studies and may be a reference for assessing the involvement of RNA methylation in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease.

Sequence-activated chemiluminescence(CL) technique offers a unique approach to detecting specific biomolecules or cellular events with high sensitivity and spatial resolution. The fundamental principle behind sequence-activated CL probes involves tailoring highly-controllable CL signals in response to specific sequences or events of interest, thus enabling high-contrast signals under complex physiological conditions. This sequential activation could be triggered by enzymes, reactive oxygen species(ROS), biothiols or changes in the microenvironment. These unique sequence-activated CL probes bestow several advantages, including minimal background, deep-tissue penetration, and the ability of non-invasive or minimally invasive detection. The sequence-activated CL techniques represent a significant advancement in molecular imaging and diagnostics. In this mini-review, we focus on the latest developments in sequential CL probes, addressing the technical challenges and discussing the future trajectory by harnessing CL signaling and molecular recognition.

Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries （AZIBs） exhibit appreciable potential in the domain of electrochemical energy ***,there are serious challenges for AZIBs,for instance zinc dendrite growth,hydrogen evolution reaction （HER）,and corrosion side ***,we propose a surface engineering modification strategy for coating the montmorillonite （mmT） layer onto the surface of the Zn anode to tackle these issues,thereby achieving high cycling stability for rechargeable *** results reveal that the mmT layer on the surface of the Zn anode is able to provide ordered zincophilic channels for zinc ions migration,facilitating the reaction kinetics of zinc *** functional theory（DFT） calculations and water contact angle （CA） tests prove that mmT@Zn anode exhibits superior adsorption capacity for Zn2+and better hydrophobicity than the bare Zn anode,thereby achieving excellent cycling ***,the mmT@Zn||mmT@Zn symmetric cell holds the stable cycling over 5600 h at 0.5 mA cm-2and 0.125 m A h cm-2,even exceeding 1800 h long cycling under harsh conditions of 5 m A cm-2and 1.25 m A h *** mmT@Zn||V2O5full cell reaches over 3000 cycles at 2 A g-1with excellent rate ***,this surface engineering modification strategy for enhancing the electrochemical performance of AZIBs represents a promising application.

Natural ventilation(NV)is a key passive strategy to design energy-efficient buildings and improve indoor air ***,accurate modeling of the NV effects is a basic requirement to include this technique during the building design ***,there is an important lack of wind pressure coefficients(CP)data,essential input parameters for NV *** this,there are no simple but still reliable tools to predict CP data on buildings with arbitrary shapes and surrounding conditions,which means a significant limitation to NV modeling in real *** this reason,the present contribution proposes a novel cloud-based platform to predict wind pressure coefficients on *** platform comprises a set of tools for performing fully unattended computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations of the atmospheric boundary layer and getting reliable CP data for actual ***-expert decisions throughout the entire workflow are implemented to automatize the generation of the computational domain,the meshing procedure the solution stage,and the post-processing of the *** evaluate the performance of the platform,an exhaustive validation against wind tunnel experimental data is carried out for a wide range of case *** include buildings with openings,balconies,irregular floor-plans,and surrounding urban *** C_(P) results are in close agreement with experimental data,reducing 60%-77% the prediction error on the openings regarding the EnergyPlus *** platform introduced shows being a reliable and practical C_(P) data source for NV modeling in real building design scenarios.

Degradation processes affect a vast area of arid and semi-arid lands around the world and damage the environment and people′s health. Degradation processes are driven by human productive activities that cause direct and indirect effects on natural resources, such as species extinction at regional scale, reduction and elimination of vegetation cover, soil erosion, etc. In this context, ecological rehabilitation is an important tool to recover key aspects of the degraded ecosystem. Rehabilitation trials rely on the use of native plant species with characteristics that allow them to obtain high survival and growth rates. The aim of this work was to assess the survival and growth of native woody species in degraded areas of northeastern Patagonia and relate them to plant functional traits and environmental variables. We observed high early and late survival rates, and growth rates in Prosopis flexuosa DC. var. depressa F.A. Roig and Schinus johnstonii F.A. Barkley, and low values in Condalia microphylla Cav. and Geoffroea decorticans(Gillies ex Hook. & Arn.) Burkart. Early survival rates were positively associated with specific leaf area(SLA) and precipitation, but negatively associated with wood density, the maximum mean temperature of the warmest month and the minimum mean temperature of the coldest month. Late survival rates were positively associated with SLA and soil organic matter, but negatively associated with plant height and precipitation. The temperature had a positive effect on late survival rates once the plants overcame the critical period of the first summer after they were transplanted to the field. Prosopis flexuosa and S. johnstonii were the most successful species in our study. This could be due to their functional traits that allow these species to acclimatize to the local environment. Real-time hybrid simulation is an attractive method to evaluate the response of structures under earthquake loads. The method is a variation of the pseudodynamic testing technique in which the experiment is executed in real time, thus allowing investigation of structural systems with rate-dependent components. Real-time hybrid simulation is challenging because it requires performance of all calculations, application of displacements, and acquisition of measured forces, within a very small increment of time. Furthermore, unless appropriate compensation for actuator dynamics is implemented, stability problems are likely to occur during the experiment. This paper presents an approach for real-time hybrid simulation in which compensation for actuator dynamics is implemented using a model-based feedforward compensator. The method is used to evaluate the response of a semi-active control of a structure employing an mR damper. Experimental results show good agreement with the predicted responses, demonstrating the effectiveness of the method for structural control performance assessment.
