BACKGROUND Whole-tumor apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)histogram analysis is relevant to predicting the neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy(nCRT)response in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer(LARC).AIM To evaluate the performance of ADC histogram-derived parameters for predicting the outcomes of patients with *** This is a single-center,retrospective study,which included 48 patients with *** patients underwent a pre-treatment magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)scan for primary tumor staging and a second restaging MRI for response *** sample was distributed as follows:18 responder patients(R)and 30 non-responders(non-R).Eight parameters derived from the whole-lesion histogram analysis(ADCmean,skewness,kurtosis,and ADC10^(th),25^(th),50^(th),75^(th),90^(th) percentiles),as well as the ADCmean from the hot spot region of interest(ROI),were calculated for each patient before and after *** all data were compared between R and non-R using the Mann-Whitney U *** measures of diagnostic accuracy were applied:the receiver operating characteristic curve and the diagnostic odds ratio(DOR).We also reported intra-and interobserver variability by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC).RESULTS post-nCRT kurtosis,as well as post-nCRT skewness,were significantly lower in R than in non-R(both ppectively).We also found that,after treatment,R had a larger loss of both kurtosis and skewness than non-R(Δ%kurtosis and Δ skewness,pparameters that demonstrated changes between groups were post-nCRT ADC10^(th),Δ%ADC10^(th),Δ%ADCmean,and ROIΔ%***,the best diagnostic performance was achieved byΔ%kurtosis at a threshold of 11.85%(Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve[AUC]=0.991,DOR=376),followed by post-nCRT kurtosis=0.78×10^(-3)mm^(2)/s(AUC=0.985,DOR=375.3),Δskewness=0.16(AUC=0.885,DOR=192.2)and post-nCRT skewness=1.59×10^(-3)mm^(2)/s(AUC=0.815,DOR=168.6).Finally,intraclass corr

It is increasingly common to find alarming news related to tragic events occurring in schools around the *** able to deal with these situations without getting hurt is a task not suitable for *** general,teachers are the ones who must deal with this type of situation in addition to other daily problems that appear in any classroom that make the level of stress to which they are subjected can become *** research aims to know the current situation of teachers in a region of southeastern Spain in terms of their level of work stress,resilience,and other associated variables,for which an ex post facto quantitative approach study was *** this purpose,an ad hoc sociodemographic questionnaire,and questions based on the Teaching and Learning International Survey of the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development,the Maslach Burnout Inventory,and the Brief Resilient Coping Scale were *** participating sample consisted of 470 *** main findings were that 6%of teachers had burnout(high emotional exhaustion,high cynicism,and low professional effectiveness simultaneously).Resilience correlated inversely with stress,emotional exhaustion,cynicism,excessive teaching,and difficulty maintaining classroom *** conclusion,knowing the needs of teachers allows us to reflect on what kind of prevention and intervention programs are necessary to improve the well-being of teachers and thus improve the quality of education.

Extreme weather conditions occur at an increasing rate as evidenced by higher frequency of hurricanes and more extreme precipitation and temperature anomalies. Such extreme environmental conditions will have important implications for all living organisms through greater frequency of reproductive failure and reduced adult survival. We review examples of reproductive failure and reduced survival related to extreme weather conditions. phenotypic plasticity may not be sufficient to allow adaptation to extreme weather for many animals. Theory predicts reduced reproductive effort as a response to increased stochasticity. We predict that patterns of natural selection will change towards truncation selection as environmental conditions become more extreme. Such changes in patterns of selection may facilitate adaptation to extreme events. However, effects of selection on reproductive effort are difficult to detect. We present a number of predictions for the effects of extreme weather conditions in need of empirical tests. Finally, we suggest a number of empirical reviews that could improve our ability to judge the effects of extreme environmental conditions on life history.

Background:Individuals at risk of suffering cardiovascular disease(CVD) present with larger increases in blood trigyceride(TG) concentration after a high-fat meal than do healthy *** postprandial hypertriglyceride levels are an independent risk factor for *** of statins and a bout of prolonged exercise are both effective in lowering postprandial hypertriglyceride *** aimed to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of statins vs.a bout of aerobic exercise in reducing fasting and postprandial TG(ppTG) concentrations in indiv、duals at high nsk of developing ***:Thirty-seven sltudies from a systematic literature search of the pubMed,EMBASE,and Cochrane databases were included in this *** selected studies conducted trials involving statin therapy(n=20) or a bout of aerobic exercise(n=19) and measured their impact on ppTG levels as the *** studies analyzed both treatments and were included in *** meta-analysis was constructed using a random-effects model to calculate the mean difference(MD).The Student t test was used to compare the data sets for statins ***:Overall,statin and exercise interventions showed similar reductions in ppTG levels,with an MD of-0.65 mmol/L for statins(95% confidence interval(95%CI):-0.54 to-0.77;p p p=0.009).Conclusion:Although aerobic exercise is effective in lowering blood TG levels,statins seem to be more efficient,especially in the fasted state.A combination of exercise and statins might reveal a valuable approach to the treatment and prevention of *** studies are required to determine the underlying mechanisms and the possible additive effects of these interventions.

plant growth and development involve the specification and regeneration of stem cell niches(SCNs).Although plants are exposed to disparate environmental conditions,how environmental cues affect developmental programs and stem cells is not well *** stem cells are accommodated in meristems in SCNs around the quiescent center(QC),which maintains their *** a combination of genetics and confocal microscopy to trace morphological defects and correlate them with changes in gene expression and protein levels,we show that the cold-induced transcription factor(TF)C-REpEAT BINDING FACTOR 3(CBF3),which has previously been associated with cold acclimation,regulates root development,stem cell activity,and ***3 is integrated into the SHORT-ROOT(SHR)regulatory network,forming a feedback loop that maintains SHR ***3 is primarily expressed in the root endodermis,whereas the CBF3 protein is localized to other meristematic tissues,including root *** of cbf3-1 using a wild-type CBF3 gene and a CBF3 fusion with reduced mobility show that CBF3 movement capacity is required for SCN patterning and regulates root ***,cold induces CBF3,affecting QC ***,exposure to moderate cold around 10℃–12℃promotes root regeneration and QC respecification in a CBF3-dependent manner during the recuperation *** contrast,CBF3 does not appear to regulate stem cell survival,which has been associated with recuperation from more acute cold(-4℃).We propose a role for CBF3 in mediating the molecular interrelationships among the cold response,stem cell activity,and development.
