Horizontal and vertical fluxes of particulate matter during wind erosion on arable land in the province La Pampa, Argentina

A detailed analysis of horizontal and vertical particulate matter(PM) fluxes during wind erosion has been done, based on measurements of PM smaller than 10, 2.5, and 1.0 μm, at windward and leeward positions on a measuring field. The three fractions of PM measurement are differently influenced by the increasing wind and shear velocities of the wind. The measured concentrations of the coarser fractions of the fine dust, PM10, and PM2.5, increase with wind and shear velocity, whereas the PM1.0concentrations show no clear correlation to the shear velocity. The share of PM2.5on PM10depends on the measurement height and wind speed and varies between 4 and 12 m/s at the 1 m height ranging from 25% to 7%(average 10%),and at the 4 m height from 39% to 23%(average 30%). Although general relationships between wind speed, PM concentration, and horizontal and vertical fluxes could be found, the contribution of the measuring field was very low, as balances of incoming and outgoing fluxes show. Consequently, the measured PM concentrations are determined from a variety of sources, such as traffic on unpaved roads,cattle drives, tillage operations, and wind erosion, and thus, represent all components of land use and landscape structure in the near and far surroundings of the measuring field. The current results may reflect factors from the landscape scale rather than the influence of field-related variables. The measuring devices used to monitor PM concentrations showed differences of up to 20%, which led to considerable deviations when determining total balances. Differences up to 67% between the calculated fluxes prove the necessity of a previous calibration of the devices used.

To date,skin wounds are still an issue for healthcare *** numerous approaches have been developed over the years for skin regeneration,recent advances in regenerative medicine offer very promising strategies for the fabrication of artificial skin substitutes,including 3D bioprinting,electrospinning or spraying,among *** particular,skin sprays are an innovative technique still under clinical evaluation that show great potential for the delivery of cells and hydrogels to treat acute and chronic *** sprays present significant advantages compared to conventional treatments for wound healing,such as the facility of application,the possibility to treat large wound areas,or the homogeneous distribution of the sprayed *** this article,we review the latest advances in this technology,giving a detailed description of investigational and currently commercially available acellular and cellular skin spray products,used for a variety of diseases and applying different experimental ***,as skin sprays products are subjected to different classifications,we also explain the regulatory pathways for their commercialization and include the main clinical trials for different skin diseases and their treatment ***,we argue and suggest possible future trends for the biotechnology of skin sprays for a better use in clinical dermatology.

Estimating the geographic range of a threatened shark in a data-poor region： Cetorhinus maximus in the South Atlantic Ocean

The distribution of the planktivorous basking shark Cetorhinus maximus is influenced by zooplankton abundance at small scales and temperature at medium scales in the North Atlantic. Here, we estimate the distribution of basking sharks on South Atlantic continental shelves, and the relative importance of chlorophyll concentration, as a proxy for zooplankton abun- dance, and temperature in determining habitat suitability for basking sharks at large scales. We used maximum entropy （MaxEnt） and maximum likelihood （MaxLike） species distribution modelling to test three hypotheses： the distribution of basking sharks is determined by （1） temperature, （2） chlorophyll concentration, or （3） both chlorophyll and temperature, while considering other factors, such as oxygen and salinity. Off South America, basking shark habitat included subtropical, temperate and cool-temperate waters between approximately 20°S and 55°S. Off Africa, basking shark habitat was limited to cool-temperate waters off Namibia and southern South Africa. MaxLike models bad a better fit than MaxEnt models. The best model included minimum chlorophyll concentration, dissolved oxygen concentration, and sea surface temperature range, supporting hypothesis 3. However, of all variables included in the best model, minimum chlorophyll concentration had the highest influence on basking shark distribution. Unlike the North Atlantic distribution, the South Atlantic distribution of basking sharks includes subtropical and cool-temperate waters. This difference is explained by high minimum chlorophyll concentration off southern Brazil as compared to North Atlantic subtropical areas. Observations in other regions of the world support this conclusion. The highest habitat suitability for basking sharks is located close to nearshore areas that experience high anthropogenic impact [Current Zoology 61 （5）： 811-826, 2015].

Residual feed intake in beef cattle and its association with carcass traits, ruminal solid-fraction bacteria, and epithelium gene expression

Background: Residual feed intake(RFI) describes an animal’s feed efficiency independent of growth *** objective of this study was to determine differences in growth performance, carcass traits, major bacteria attached to ruminal solids-fraction, and ruminal epithelium gene expression between the most-efficient and the least-efficient beef cattle. One-hundred and forty-nine Red Angus cattle were allocated to three contemporary groups according to sex and herd origin. Animals were fed a finishing diet in confinement for 70 d to determine the RFI category for each. Within each group, the two most-efficient(n = 6; RFI coefficient =-2.69 ± 0.58 kg dry matter intake(DMI)/d) and the two least-efficient animals(n = 6; RFI coefficient = 3.08 ± 0.55 kg DMI/d) were selected. Immediately after slaughter, ruminal solids-fraction and ruminal epithelium were collected for bacteria relative abundance and epithelial gene expression analyses, respectively, using real-time ***: The most-efficient animals consumed less feed(P = 0.01; 5.03 kg less DMI/d) compared with the leastefficient animals. No differences(P > 0.10) in initial body weight(BW), final BW, and average daily gain(ADG) were observed between the two RFI classes. There were no significant RFI × sex effects(P > 0.10) on growth *** with the least-efficient group, hot carcass weight(HCW), ribeye area(REA), and kidney, pelvic, and heart fat(KPH) were greater(P ≤ 0.05) in the most-efficient cattle. No RFI × sex effect(P > 0.10) for carcass traits was detected between RFI groups. Of the 10 bacterial species evaluated, the most-efficient compared with least efficient cattle had greater(P ≤ 0.05) relative abundance of Eubacterium ruminantium, Fibrobacter succinogenes, and Megasphaera elsdenii, and lower(P ≤ 0.05) Succinimonas amylolytica and total bacterial density. Background:The dynamics and structure of many bird communities are changing due to the global warming and changes in the land use and *** Ebro Valley constitutes one of the chief wintering areas for several passerine species in Iberia,and the reed beds spread across this Valley concentrate huge numbers of birds that use them to roost,while the surrounding agricultural areas serve as main foraging *** aims of this work are(1)to quantify how variable a non-breeding passerine bird community associated to a reed bed area in the Ebro Valley is,and,(2)to test for the effect of weather on possible annual fluctuations in species’proportions at a regional/local ***:We used for that ringing data collected at Badina de Escudera lagoon(Navarra)over a 12-year ***:Though,overall,the assemblage did not vary strongly among years(most similarity values were>0.8),we still found a significant linear effect of year on the proportion of captures of Reed Buntings(Emberiza schoeniclus),i.e.,the dominant species detected in our passerine *** increasing loss of weight of Reed Buntings in the community was due to a progressive decrease in its ***:The structure and diversity of passerine community in Badina Escudera was not influenced by meteorological conditions at a local scale,suggesting that local weather would not have an impact on numbers of Reed Buntings in winter.

Ni_xWO_(2.72) nanorods as an efficient electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction

Ni_xWO_(2.72) nanorods(NRs) are synthesized by a one-pot reaction of Ni(acac)_2 and WCl_4. In the rod structure, Ni(Ⅱ) intercalates in the defective perovskite-type WO_(2.72) and is stabilized. The Ni_xWO_(2.72) NRs show the x-dependent electrocatalysis for the oxygen evolution reaction(OER) in 0.1 M KOH with Ni_(0.78)WO_(2.72) being the most efficient, even outperforming the commercial Ir-catalyst. The synthesis is not limited to Ni_xWO_(2.72) but can be extended to M_xWO_(2.72)(M = Co, Fe) as well,providing a new class of oxide-based catalysts for efficient OER and other energy conversion reactions.

Different strategies of treatment for uterine cervical carcinoma stage ⅠB2-ⅡB

Uterine cervical cancer is the second most common gynecological malignancy. It is estimated that over 35% of tumors are diagnosed at locally advanced disease, stage ⅠB2-ⅡB with an estimated 5-year overall survival of 60%. During the last decades, the initial treatment for these women has been debated and largely varies through different countries. Thus, radical concurrent chemoradiation is the standard of care in United Sated and Canada, and neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by radical surgery is the first line of treatment in some institutions of Europe, Asia and Latin America. Until today, there is no evidence of which strategy is better over the other. This article describe the evidence as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the main strategies of treatment for women affected by uterine cervical cancer stage ⅠB2-ⅡB.
