Uncovering current pyroregions in Italy using wildfire metrics

Background:Pyrogeography is a major field of investigation in wildfire science because of its capacity to describe the spatial and temporal variations of fire *** propose a systematic pyrogeographic analytical approach to cluster regions on the basis of their *** employed the Affinity Propagation algorithm to cluster pyroregions using Italian landscape as a test bed and its current wildfire metrics in terms of density,seasonality and stand replacing fire ratio.A discussion follows on how pyrogeography varies according to differences in the human,biophysical,socioeconomic,and climatic ***:The algorithm identified seven different pyroregion *** main gradients were identified that partly explain the variability of wildfire metrics observed in the current ***,a gradient characterized by increasing temperatures and exposure to droughts,which coincides with a decreasing latitude,and second,a human pressure gradient displaying increasing population density in areas at lower *** drivers exerted a major influence on wildfire density,burnt area over available fuels and stand replacing,which were associated to warmdry climate and high human *** study statistically highlighted the importance of a North–South gradient,which represents one of the most important drivers of wildfire regimes resulting from the variations in climatic conditions but showing collinearity with socioeconomic aspects as ***:Our fully replicable analytical approach can be applied at multiple scales and used for the entire European continent to uncover new and larger *** could create a basis for the European Commission to promote innovative and collaborative funding programs between regions that demonstrate pyrosimilarities.

Evaluation of the Historical Sampling Error for Global Models

Various ensemble-based schemes are employed in data assimilation because they can use the ensemble to estimate the flow-dependent background error covariance. The most common way to generate the real-time ensemble is to use an ensemble forecast; however, this is very time-consuming. The historical sampling approach is an alternative way to generate the ensemble,by picking some snapshots from historical forecast *** this approach, many ensemble-based assimilation schemes can be used in a deterministic forecast environment. Furthermore, considering the time that it saves, the method has the potential for operational ***, the historical sampling approach carries with it a special kind of sampling error because, in a historical forecast, the way to integrate the ensemble members is different from the way to integrate the initial conditions at the analysis time(i.e., forcing and lateral boundary condition differences, and ‘warm start' or ‘cold start' differences). This study analyzes the results of an experiment with the Global Regional Assimilation Prediction System-Global Forecast System(GRAPES-GFS), to evaluate how the different integration configurations influence the historical sampling error for global models. The results show that the sampling error is dominated by diurnal cycle patterns as a result of the radiance forcing *** the RMSEs of the sampling error are small, in view of the correlation coefficients of the perturbed ensemble, the sampling error for some variables on some levels(e.g., low-level temperature and humidity, stratospheric temperature and geopotential height and humidity), is non-negligible. The results suggest some caution must be applied, and advice taken, when using the historical sampling approach.

This paper investigates region tracking and perimeter surveillance of second-order multiagent systems,where all agents move within a star-shaped ***,by coordination transformations,the region tracking problem is converted from the star-shaped sets to a circular *** authors employ communication and collaboration to complete region tracking and perimeter surveillance tasks,and then revert back to the star-shaped set by using inverse ***,the authors propose a distributed control strategy based on attractive and interaction potential functions,under which all agents can quickly track a given circular region and move around the ***,the authors validate the effectiveness and performance advantages of the proposed method through simulation experiments.

Simultaneous increase in remanence and coercivity during grain refining of Nd-Fe-B deformed magnets

To explore the feasibility of deep grain-size refinement in overcoming the problem of traditional B-Htrade-off in bulk permanent magnets,the effect of deformation temperature on the texture strength,grain refining,and magnetic properties of slow-deformed Nd-Fe-B magnets was systematically *** a result,strong textures with gradual grain refining from conventionally large size of d=650 nm to small nanoscale size of d=53 nm(ddenotes the lateral size of the aligned plate-like grains)are observed as the temperature reduces from T=650℃to T=450℃.Moreover,magnetic observations show a simultaneous increase in remanence and coercivity as the grain refines from d=650 nm to d=127 *** increase in coercivity results from the grain size refinement as well as the smaller aspect ratio of the plate-like grains,and the increase in remanence results from the improved texture *** compared with the d=650 nm magnets,the simultaneous increase in remanence and coercivity leads to optimum enhancements of 57%in coercivity,10%in remanence,and 25%in energy product,which demonstrate the feasibility of near-nano scale grain refinement in overcoming the traditional B-Htrade-off for improved(BH)*** failure of higher coercivities in the d≤80 nm magnets is closely related with the defect effects of the grain *** explaining the grain refining and texture changing behavior were also discussed.

Genetic mechanisms and control on hydrocarbon accumulation in transtensional structures: A case study of Gaoqing area, northern dongying Sag, China

Broom-shaped structures are widely seen in transtensional basins, including those discovered in many sags of the Bohai Bay Basin. Broom-shaped transtensional structural zones are generally petroliferous and thus important targets for hydrocarbon exploration. This study analyzed the evolution and genetic mechanisms of the broom-shaped transtensional structures in the Gaoqing area of the dongying Sag using the 3d seismic flattening technique and a physical simulation experiment. Furthermore, the control effects of the broom-shaped transtensional structures on hydrocarbon accumulation and distribution were discussed. The research results are as follows. The Gaoqing area is of a broom-shaped transtensional structure in planar view, composed of several arc-shaped secondary faults intersecting with high-level main fault in the same direction. On the seismic section, it appears as a typical semi-flower-like structure. In the early stage (that is, during the deposition of the Kongdian Formation to the lower submember of the 4th member of the Shahejie Formation, Es4(L)), single-fault pattern consisting of single or multiple faults in alignment was developed under extensional stress. While with the change of structural stress (that is, during the deposition of the Es4(U) to the Es2(L)), more secondary faults were formed, and came in a pattern of broom-shaped structure together with the major fault. In the late stage (that is, during the deposition of the Es1 to the Guantao Formation), the en echelon fault pattern was formed, as the major fault broke into multiple secondary faults. The divergent end of the broom-shaped transtensional structure has many secondary faults developed, the fault planes are gentle, and small-scale fan deltas are the predominant type of deposits. The hydrocarbon tends to laterally migrate far away and accumulate mianly in structural and lithologic-structural traps. The significance of U-Pb zircon ages in zoned plutons:the case of the Flamenco pluton, Coastal Range batholith, northern Chile

Compositionally zoned plutons, both layered and concentrically arranged, provide granitic exposures where the mechanisms and timing of the magmatic emplacement processes can be studied. The importance of in-situ geochemical differentiation and the magma replenishment rates are revealed by geochemistry and field relations, together with the increasingly accurate U-Pb geochronology, which has promoted the knowledge about the pluton incremental assembly *** Flamenco pluton, located in the Coastal Range of northern Chile, is part of the Upper Triassic to Early Cretaceous Andean intrusives formed in the western active margin of South America, and present a normal zoned structure with mafic magmatic facies(mostly gabbros and Qtz-diorites) close to the contacts with the host metasediments, and tonalites, granodiorites and granites in the inner areas. A combined study of the field relations, geochemistry and zircon geochronology of the magmatic facies was applied to determine the emplacement sequence of the Flamenco pluton, revealing three distinguishable domains separated by metasedimentary septa. The SW area is constituted by mostly homogeneous leucocratic granodiorites that yielded an age of 213 Ma as the best estimation for their emplacement age. distinctive geochemical characteristics, such as the absence of an Eu anomaly, the depletion in HREE, or the highest Sr, Sr/Y and Ce/Yb values among the granodioritic facies of the pluton,involve lower T and/or higher P conditions at the magmatic source according to experimental *** conditions were established during an early stage of the Andean magmatic arc building that is firstly defined here as Upper Triassic. The NW and E domains of the pluton were sequentially emplaced between 194 Ma and 186 Ma and both the field relations and the detailed geochronological results suggest that the mafic facies intruded latter in the emplacement sequence. distributed optimal consensus of multiagent systems with Markovian switching topologies: synchronous and asynchronous communications

Considering limited system configurations and communication network bandwidths, this paper proposes two fully distributed event-triggered control schemes, namely synchronous and asynchronous communication, to solve the optimal consensus problem of linear multiagent systems(MASs) with Markovian switching topologies. The concept here is to design a novel composite dynamic event-triggered mechanism for each agent(using the information of all neighbors and one of them), based on which two fully distributed event-triggered protocols are designed to reach consensus and minimize a global convex team performance function. The effectiveness of the proposed control schemes is analyzed theoretically, that is, the optimal consensus problem can be realized, and the MAS does not exhibit Zeno behavior. Compared with existing optimal consensus results, the outstanding advantage of the proposed schemes is that a fully distributed asynchronous event-triggered communication scheme is designed, which fills the gap of optimal consensus results in this respect.

Self-deposition for mesoporous carbon nanosheet with supercapacitor application

Porous carbon sheets have wide application prospects in many fields,especially in energy storage of supercapacitor due to the features combining both 2d structure and porous ***,a self-deposition approach is proposed to obtain N-doped mesoporous carbon nanosheets (N-MCNs),using 3-aminophenol (3-AF) as precursor and Mg(OH)_(2) sheet as hard *** process realizes the direct carbon formation using 3-AF monomer as carbon precursor under the catalysis of hard template avoiding the polymerization and utilization of *** mass ratio of 3-AF to Mg(OH)_(2) plays an important role in determining the pore structures and the resulting capacitance *** results show that N-MCNs with a mass ratio of 3-AF and Mg(OH)_(2) of 1:1 have good electrochemical behavior for *** N-MCNs based electrode exhibits a high capacitance of 240 F·g^(-1)at 1 A·g^(-1),good rate performance(75.4%retention ratio at 20 A·g^(-1)),and high cycling stability with 98.3% initial capacitance retained after 10000 *** supercapacitors on N-MCNs achieve energy density of 18.2 W·h·kg^(-1) and power density of 0.4 kW·kg^(-1) operated within a wide potential range of 0–1.6 V in 1.0 mol·L^(-1) Na_(2)SO_(4) solution,exhibiting its potential for electrode materials with high performance.

Selective laser trabeculoplasty as adjunctive treatment for open-angle glaucoma vs following incisional glaucoma surgery in Chinese eyes

BACKGROUNd Selective laser trabeculoplasty(SLT)is a relatively safe and effective therapy in lowering intraocular pressures(IOP)for *** To study the long-term effects of SLT on IOP and number of glaucoma medications used in Chinese *** This is a retrospective study in which 75 eyes of 70 patients with open-angle glaucoma(OAG,n=36)and eyes with prior glaucoma surgery(PGS,n=39)were *** in mean IOP and number of glaucoma medications used evaluated at 1 d,1 wk,1 mo,3 mo,6 mo,12 mo,and 36 mo after laser *** All patients(33 male,37 female)were *** mean age was 44.34±*** pre-SLT IOP was 22.75±2.08 mmHg in OAG and 22.52±2.62 mmHg in *** IOP was significantly reduced 1 d,1 wk,1 mo and 3 mo after laser treatment(Pdifferences between baseline and SLT treated groups at the 6th month both in OAG(P=0.347,P>0.05)and in PGS(P=0.309,P>0.05).Six months after SLT treatment,some patients received retreatment of SLT or were given more topical IOP-lowering medication to control the *** the end of our study,the average IOP decreased to 20.73±1.82 mmHg in OAG and 20.49±1.53 mmHg in PGS *** number of glaucoma medications used was significantly reduced until the end of 3 years compared to *** SLT could reduce IOP as adjunctive treatment both in OAG and PGS *** significantly reduced the number of glaucoma medications used 3-years following treatment in glaucoma patients.

Visual Anosognosia (Anton-Babinski Syndrome): Report of Two Cases Associated with Ischemic Cerebrovascular disease

Visual anosognosia or Anton-Babinski syndrome is a rare neurological condition related to cortical blindness. The patients deny their blindness and affirm adamantly that they are capable of seeing. The clinical presentation includes confabulations and sometimes confusional states. In this article we report two patients with anosognosia related to ischemic stroke in two different sets of etiology and pathogenesis. We describe the major clinical manifestations of this syndrome and review the current medical literature. Two patients were identified, a 96-year-old male with visual anosognosia secondary to a right posterior cerebral artery thrombosis, and a 56-year-old female with the same syndrome but related to central nervous system angiitis in relation with multiple sclerosis and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Visual anosognosia or Anton-Babinski syndrome is a rare neurological condition, however the ischemic vascular cerebral disease is a frequent etiology. We believe that this is the first report of this syndrome in relation to angiitis with a clear autoimmune pathogenesis.
