Ultrasonic Sensors with Mechanical Couplers： Simulation and Validation

The use of ultrasonic sensors has varied applications, but the sensor operation frequency limits the operating distance. An easy way to increase this distance is to couple a mechanical element （horn）, but it is necessary to characterize this technique. In this paper the results obtained in a study of the behaviour of mechanical elements coupled to an ultrasonic sensor using finite element techniques are presented. These results have been obtained using Comsol Multiphysics modelling. Also, the effect caused by the sensor size on the radiation acoustic pressure has also been evaluated. In other way, in this paper it is presented the results obtained in the laboratory measurements. First, it is studied the influence of a straight horn attached to the ultrasonic sensor. Later, it is presented the variation in the sound pressure on the radiation axis when the sensor varies its size. In the final part of the paper, the experimental validation of the simulations is presented.

Photoacoustic Studies of Colloidal Silica Particles after MeV Ion-Induced Shape Deformation

Ordered arrays of colloidal submicrometer-sized silica particles deposited onto silicon wafers were irradiated with MeV Si ions. The spherical silica particles turned into oblate particles as a result of the increase of the particle dimension perpendicular to the ion beam direction and the decrease in the parallel direction. Pulsed laser photoacoustic spectroscopy was used to study the structural changes of the silica particles after the ion-induced shape deformation. Our purpose is to correlate the mechanical vibrations generated by the pulsed laser as a function of the Si irradiation parameters: ion energy and fluence. Fast Fourier transform analysis of the photoacoustic signal was carried out in order to obtain the normal vibration modes of the system. The size, size distribution and shape of the silica particles were determined by scanning electron microscopy. Our results revealed significant structural differences between the spherical and the deformed silica particles.

氢气是炼油厂加工烃类和提高油品质量的重要原料气,但是在工业上氢气的制备成本高,其主要来源于化石资源。在石油炼制过程中,会产生大量富含氢气和烃类等高价值组分的炼厂气,常被作为燃料气直接燃烧,造成了严重的资源浪费。因此,利用高效的分离方法和工艺设计,从炼厂气中回收氢气是近年来重要的提高氢气利用效率的方法。但是,炼厂尾气存在来源复杂、多组分、分离方法多等特点,确定合适的分离方法和优化的分离序列十分困难,因此存在“组合爆炸”的问题。基于以上问题,本论文基于三角坐标-矢量分析的图形设计法,得到了10股炼厂气综合回收的优化分离序列流程和设计方案,基于流程模拟,结合灵敏度分析和响应面法,对其过程参数进行优化,以及对整个过程系统进行技术经济评价,实现了氢气、轻烃等资源组分的高效回收。首先,在三角坐标系下,以组分的产品归属及分离性质相似程度为合并法则,将原料简化为燃料气、氢气和轻烃构成的三元体系,将来自中国某石化公司的10种股不同成分的炼厂尾气标注在三角坐标体系中。根据炼厂气组成的特点,将位于三角坐标系同一分离单元优势区域的原料气进行合并,得到两个混合物流,分别落在变压吸附(PSA)分离区的F1和浅冷(SC)分离区的F2。基于该两个混合原料物流,通过绘制对应的分离单元矢量对,依次确定对应的分离方法,得到最终的包含浅冷(SC)、氢气膜分离(GPM)、轻烃膜分离(RPM)和变压吸附(PSA)四种技术的梯级耦合回收工艺。最后采用多塔精馏工艺对冷凝轻烃进行分离,得到液化石油气(LPG)、轻石脑油(C+)和乙烷(CH)等产品。然后,利用Uni Sim Design对整个过程进行模拟,通过灵敏度分析初步确定了膜面积(GPM和RPM)切割比、膜渗透侧压力、精馏塔回流比和塔板数等过程参数适宜值,充分利用分离过程的“双向富集”效应。结果表明,当GPM和RPM的面积分别为3772.6m和600 m时,GPM和RPM的级切割分别为0.51和0.80。最后,利用响应面方法(RSM)对过程参数进行优化。根据所建立的流程模型,首先通过基于(Central Composite Design,CCD)的实验设计方法筛选出对年度总收益(TAP)具有显著性影响的因素:GPM膜面积、RPM膜面积和压缩机K-2的出口压力,然后通过最陡爬坡法确定响应面分析的中心点,最后根据Box-Behnken中心组合实验设计原理,拟合了TAP与三个关键因素的关联方程并进行响应面分析,得出冷凝-膜-PSA-精馏耦合系统的最优操作参数使TAP最大。通过对工艺方案进行经济评估,确定了年度运营费用和总投资,结果表明优化方案的年生产总利润为38.62×10美元,投资回收期小于4个月,氢气和轻烃回收率分别达到96%和99%,氢气生产单耗仅0.227 k Wh·Nm,与国外专利技术相比,能耗减少幅度达27%。

Minimally Invasive Surgical Approach for Spinal Canal Tumors—Technique Description and Experience from a Reference Center

Background: Spinal canal tumors are difficult to diagnose and treat. The traditional surgical approaches for attempting a complete excision of these lesions frequently involve big incisions and tissue dissection with high risk of postop instability and cerebrospinal fluid leakage. Also, there is a risk of neurological worsening, sometimes irreversible. Methods: We present our experience in a patient series with spinal canal tumors and describe the surgical approach with minimally invasive techniques (MIS). All of them were performed by the Neurosurgery team of the Hospital Universitario San Ignacio during the period of 2011-2016. Results: We reviewed forty patients with spinal canal tumors surgically treated with MIS techniques. 15 patients (37.5%) had Meningioma diagnosis (complete resection in 11 (73.3%), subtotal in 3 (20%) and biopsy in one patient), 10 patients (25%) with Schwannomas reached complete resection in 70% and subtotal in 30%. 5 patients had spinal cord metastasis, with complete resection in 4 patients (80%) and subtotal in 1 (20%). Other included ependymoma, astrocytoma, and miscellaneous. No patient has had cerebrospinal fluid leakage and no postoperative fusion has been required. Conclusions: The minimally invasive approach allowed complete tumors removal in a high number of patients and good postoperative results. These findings are similar and in some cases, better than the reported with traditional techniques. This MIS technique provides encouraging results. It requires a wide learning curve and a high degree of surgical experience.

AIM To assess the relationship between the presence of toll-like receptor 4(TLR4) polymorphisms and bacterial infections in cirrhotic patients with ascites. METHODS We prospectively included consecutive patients with cirrhosis and ascites hospitalized during a 6-year period. Patients with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) infection or any other immunodeficiency, patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(beyond Milan's criteria) or any other condition determining poor short-term prognosis, and patients with a permanent urinary catheter were excluded. The presence of D299 G and/or T399 I TLR4 polymorphisms was determined by sequencing and related to the incidence and probability of bacterial infections, other complications of cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and mortality during follow-up. A multivariate analysis to identify predictive variables of mortality in the whole series was performed. RESULTS We included 258 patients: 28(10.8%) were carriers of D299G and/or T399I TLR4 polymorphisms(polymorphism group) and 230 patients were not(wildtype group). The probability of developing any bacterial infection at one-year follow-up was 78% in the polymorphism group and 69% in the wild-type group(P = 0.54). The one-year probability of presenting infections caused by gram-negative bacilli(51% vs 44%, P = 0.68), infections caused by gram-positive cocci(49% vs 40%, P = 0.53), and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis(29% vs 34%, respectively, P = 0.99) did not differ between the two groups. The oneyear probability of transplant-free survival was 55% in the polymorphism group and 66% in the wild-type group(P = 0.15). Multivariate analysis confirmed that age, Child-Pugh score, active alcohol intake, previous hepatic encephalopathy, hepatocellular carcinoma and serum creatinine were associated with a higher risk of death during follow-up. Growth and development of komatsuna (<i>Brassica rapa</i>L. Nothovar) in NFT (nutrient film technique) system, as influenced by natural mineral

The cultivation of komatsuna (Brassica rapa L. Nothovar) was carried out hydroponically using a nutrient film technique (NFT) system inside a greenhouse, applying a quartz porphyry (QP) treated nutrient solution. Quartz porphyry is a natural mineral containing many substances that easily ionize with water to improve water quality. Different growth attributes of komatsuna such as leaf length, leaf width and plant fresh weight increased in plants that received QP treated nutrient solution. The coefficient of variation was smaller for QP treated nutrient solution plants when compared to the control. High light intensity, long duration of solar radiation and higher temperatures in the summer (July-Aug.) promoted plant growth compare to winter (Dec.-Feb.). In contrast, plants grown in the winter accumulated more fresh weight compare to plants grown in the summer. Results also showed that the rapid exchange of ion in the nutrient solution due to the QP treatment enabled the solution to maintain the ion balance, and thus plants grew uniformly and vigorously. The cations Na+ and Ca2+ and the anions Cl- and were dominant and made the media saline. There was a decrease of Na+ ion concentration in the recirculating nutrient solution (NFT) due to ion exchange by QP. Results suggest that water treatment with QP could be used for production of high quality vegetables.

Challenges and Needs of National Swimming Federations in the Promotion of Health

This study focuses on the current challenges faced by the National Swimming Federations （NFs） with respect to challenges and needs of their NFs in the promotion of health in their domestic population and elite athletes. A descriptive transversal survey was circulated among the FINA NFs requesting information regarding these challenges and needs. The response rate was 64.9% （135 of the 208 NFs）. A similarity study was conducted （pairing measures method of Rogers-Tanimoto） to obtain 8 groups of NFs organized according to the degree to which their responses were similar to those of the other NFs. The lack of financial resources （95%） was identified as the most significant barrier to health promotion among the NFs. The least common challenges faced by the NFs were the relative importance of swimming as a sport （52%） and the lack of evidence based and best practice guidelines （51%）. Conclusion： Although many NFs face some common barriers to promoting health, those barriers are more significant in some NFs. Therefore, the means to overcome them will vary from NF to NF.
