Concordance between bio-impedance analysis and clinical score in fluid-status assessment of maintenance haemodialysis patients: A single centre experience

In vitro activity and in vivo efficacy of a combination therapy of diminazene and chloroquine against murine visceral leishmaniasis

The present study evaluated the in vitro activity and in vivo efficacy of diminazene combined with chloroquine as a potential drug against Leishmania donovani. Amphotericin B was used as a positive control drug. In vitro activity involved incubation of various drug concentrations with promastigotes or vero cells in culture before determination of parasite growth inhibition or cell death while in vivo evaluations involved infection of various mice groups with virulent L. donovani parasites and treatment with test drug compounds following disease establishment. Weight changes in experimental mice were also evaluated before infection and throughout the experiment. The results indicated that the diminazene-chloroquine combination was at least nine times more efficacious than individual drugs in killing promastigotes in culture. The diminazene-chloroquine combination was safer （Ld50=0.03±0.04） than Amphotericin B （Ld50=0.02±0.01）. Body weight in infected mice increased significantly （P=0.0007） from day 7 to day 37 following infection （P=0.026）. However, body weight remained comparable in all mice groups during treatment （P=0.16）. The diminazene-chloroquine combination significantly reduced splenic parasite numbers as compared to individual drug therapies （P=0.0001） although Amphotericin B was still more efficacious than any other treatment （P=0.0001）. Amongst the test compounds, the diminazene-chloroquine combination showed the lowest level of IgG antibody responses with results indicating significant negative correlation between antileishmanial antibody responses and protection against disease. These findings demonstrate the positive advantage and the potential use of a combined therapy of diminazene-chloroquine over the constituent drugs. Further evaluation is recommended to determine the most efficacious combination ratio of the two compounds.

Heat Propagation of Eyring-Prandtl Double Reaction and Pressure Driven Hydromagnetic Viscous Heating Fluid in a Device

The effect toxic industrial discharge on the environment and ecosystem cannot be overlooked. This is owing to a partial combustion of hydrocarbon arising from industrial activities and human endeavours. As such, this investigation focuses on the pressure driven flow and heat propagation of combustible Prandtl-Eyring viscous heating fluid in a horizontal device. The combustion-reaction of the viscoplastic material is considered to be inspired by two-step exothermic reaction. With negligible reactant consumption, the flowing fluid is influenced by a chemical kinetic, activation energy and electromagnetic force. An invariant transformation of the partial derivative model to an ordinary derivative model is obtained through an applied dimensionless variable. The solutions to the unsteady thermal fluid flow model are obtained via a semi-implicit difference scheme, and the outputs of the solution are displayed in plots and tables. As revealed, an enhanced heat propagation is obtained that in turn encourages the combustion process of the system. Also, increasing material dilatant simulated fluid molecular bond and viscosity. Therefore, the outcomes of this study are treasured to the thermal and chemical engineering, and the environmental management.

Preformation probability and kinematics of cluster emission yielding Pb-daughters

In the present study,the newly established preformation formula is applied for the first time to study the kinematics of the cluster emission from various radioactive nuclei,especially those that decay to the double shell closure^(208)Pb nucleus and its neighbors as *** recently proposed universal cluster preformation formula has been established based on the concepts that underscore the influence of mass and charge asymmetry(η_(A)andη_(Z)),cluster mass A_(c),and the Q-value,paving the way to quantify the energy contribution during preformation as well as during the tunneling process *** cluster-daughter interaction potential is obtained by folding the relativistic mean-field(RMF)densities with the recently developed microscopic R3Y using the NL 3^(*)and the phenomenological M3Y NN potentials to compare their *** penetration probabilities are calculated from the WKB *** the inclusion of the new preformation probability P_(0),the predicted half-lives of the R3Y and M3Y interactions are in good agreement with the experimental ***,a careful inspection reflects slight differences in the decay half-lives,which arise from their respective barrier *** P_(0)for systems with double magic shell closure^(208)Pb daughter are found to be an order of≈10^(2)higher than those with neighboring Pb daughter *** exploring the contributions of the decay energy,the recoil effect of the daughter nucleus is evaluated,in contrast to several other ***,the centrality of the Q-value in the decay process is demonstrated and redefined within the preformed cluster-decay ***,we have introduced a simple and intuitive set of criteria that governs the estimation of recoil energy in the cluster radioactivity.

15 patients after the middle of 2018, during the initial onset of the epidemic of identified Nipah viral infection (fruits borne virus) in adjacent state, presented with fever, acute coma, delirium, movement disorders, required referral to district headquarters hospital, for virology confirmation, and management. 135 mostly afebrile patients, who refused referral to government hospital, for virology confirmation, presented with symptoms of mainly subacute pan encephalitis, over the past 14 months;90% presented with conglomeration of vertigo, staring, personality changes, imbalance in gait, difficulty to walk, bilateral drooling of saliva, tremors, confusion, altered sensorium, nausea, vomiting;83% presented with dysarthria, 28% presented with symptoms of raised intracranial pressure-mimicking accelerated, malignant hypertensive emergencies, bradycardia, vomiting;decreased vision in 4.6%, myoclonic jerks in 58%, choreoathetosis in 8%. All of them could not afford INR 10000 for virology confirmation. Fruits borne viral subacute pan encephalitis, can present as subacute neurovascular syndrome, simulating ischemic stroke, mediated by Hapten triggered autoimmune angiopathy (blood borne) with resultant bilateral, asymmetrical multifocal, infarcts, cerebritis with consequent edema, requiring recognition, successful treatment with acyclovir, antiedema, antiepileptic measures and not antiplatelets, since the etiology is inflammatory and not degenerative. Promoting awareness to steam cook, pressure cook, cook with coconut oil (pie) fruits, steaming fresh fruit juices, before consumption will prevent incidence of fruits borne, tobacco leaves borne, and endemic viral infection. Economical screening card tests for Nipah fruits borne virus, will enable early detection, authenticate notification, early recognition treatment of subacute pan encephalitis presenting as neurovascular syndrome, mimicking ischemic stroke Global aborted blood pollution, contraceptive menstrual blood poll

Multi-Residue Levels of Persistent Organochlorine Pesticides in Edible Vegetables: A Human Health Risk Assessment

Background: This study evaluates the quantitative assessment of persistent organochorine pesticide (OCPs) residues in vegetables (Senecio biafrae) from four selected cocoa plantations in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Methods: The pesticides were extracted from the vegetable samples by using USEPA 3500C method and later clean-up on activated silica gel. The pesticides residues in the samples were determined using Gas Chromatography coupled with Electron Capture Detector (GC-ECD). Results: The results showed that the analyzed samples were contaminated with ten OCPs. The mean OCPs concentration ranged from ND—0.399 mg/kg to ND—0.379 mg/kg during the wet and dry seasons respectively. α-BHC, β-BHC, p, p’-DDE, dieldrin, endrin, endosulfan sulphate and methoxychlor were not detected in the samples. Pesticides such as aldrin, endosulfan II, endrin aldehyde and heptachlor slightly exceeded their maximum residue limit. Conclusion: The hazard indices (HI) of heptachlor, endosulfan I, endosulfan II, aldrin, heptachlor-epoxide and p, p’-DDT exceeded 1 and thus pose likely potential non-carcinogenic health risk.

EPW is an open-source software for ab initio calculations of electron–phonon interactions and related materials *** code combines density functional perturbation theory and maximally localized Wannier functions to efficiently compute electron–phonon coupling matrix elements,and to perform predictive calculations of temperature-dependent properties and phonon-assisted quantum processes in bulk solids and low-dimensional ***,we report on significant developments in the code since 2016,namely:a transport module for the calculation of charge carrier mobility under electric and magnetic fields using the Boltzmann transport equation;a superconductivity module for calculations of phonon-mediated superconductors using the anisotropic multi-band Eliashberg theory;an optics module for calculations of phonon-assisted indirect transitions;a module for the calculation of small and large polarons without supercells;and a module for calculating band structure renormalization and temperature-dependent optical spectra using the special displacement *** each capability,we outline the methodology and implementation and provide example calculations.

Empty Sella [Presenting as Hypopituitarism] and Platybasia Secondary to Essential Fatty Acids Deprived Diet. Proof of Basic Concept Study by Retrospective Analysis

Background: Universal concern is an increased prevalence of morbidity, mortality;with improper comprehension, the globe has implemented, non evidence-based medical practice, without therapeutic indication, therapeutic protocols, policies-contraception, abortion, annihilating human race by therapy, destroying germ cells with consecutive systemic inflammatory response syndrome, associated with decreased androgen oestrogen resulting in metabolic syndrome, increased neoplasms—due to lacuna of this comprehension—cholesterol was blamed, resulting in essential fatty acids deprived diet, promoting sunflower seed oil, refined oil, lipid-lowering agents prescription like water, for the past >40 years;the tragedy of this false concept of refined oil, essential fatty acids deprived diet, [against God-ordained marvelous cell metabolism, from cholesterol] resulting in degenerative diseases, defaulted genomic repertoire, as cause and effect phenomenon in the two following morbid, fatal case presentations;contraception, abortion is the culprit and not cholesterol which is the basic life moiety of cell membrane, cell metabolism governing steroid hormones-androgen oestrogen derived from cholesterol. Case 1: 76-year-old male, vegetarian, presented with lethargy, hypotension, unexplained hyponatremia, on fludrocortisone for 2 years. MRI detected empty sella;hence hypopituitarism with cortisol deficiency, resulting in hyponatremia was considered and with hydrocortisone replacement, patient improved. BACKGROUND The Black/African Ancestry(AA)population has a higher prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and a higher incidence and mortality rate for colorectal cancer(CRC)than all other races in the United States.T2DM has been shown to increase adenoma risk in predominantly white/European ancestry(EA)populations,but the effect of T2DM on adenoma risk in Black/AA individuals is less *** hypothesize that T2DM has a significant effect on adenoma risk in a predominantly Black/AA *** To investigate the effect of T2DM and race on the adenoma detection rate(ADR)in screening colonoscopies in two disparate *** A retrospective cohort study was conducted on ADR during index screening colonoscopies(age 45-75)performed at an urban public hospital serving a predominantly Black/AA population(92%)(2017-2018,n=1606).Clinical metadata collected included basic demographics,insurance,body mass index(BMI),family history of CRC,smoking,diabetes diagnosis,and aspirin *** dataset was combined with a recently reported parallel retrospective cohort data set collected at a suburban university hospital serving a predominantly White/EA population(87%)(2012-2015,n=2882).RESULTS The ADR was higher in T2DM patients than in patients without T2DM or prediabetes(35.2%vs 27.9%,P=0.0166,n=981)at the urban public *** analysis of the combined datasets showed that T2DM[odds ratio(OR)=1.29,95%confidence interval(CI):1.08-1.55,P=0.0049],smoking(current vs never OR=1.47,95%CI:1.18-1.82,current vs past OR=1.32,95%CI:1.02-1.70,P=0.0026),older age(OR=1.05 per year,95%CI:1.04-1.06,P<0.0001),higher BMI(OR=1.02 per unit,95%CI:1.01-1.03,P=0.0003),and male sex(OR=1.87,95%CI:1.62-2.15,P<0.0001)were associated with increased ADR in the combined datasets,but race,aspirin use and insurance were *** T2DM,but not race,is significantly associated with increased ADR on index screening colonoscopy while controlling for other factors.
