Starting from sissotrin (1), a natural.isofl.vonoid isol.ted from Trifol.um baccarinii (Fabaceae), one new semisynthetic derivative, 6-nitrobiochanin A (1b) and two known derivatives, 8-nitrobiochanin A (1a) and 2",3",4",6"-tetraacetyl.issotrin (1c) have been obtained after performing nitration and acetyl.tion reactions. Their structures were assigned after interpretation of their spectrometric (HR-ESI-MS) and spectroscopic (NMR 1D and 2D) data and by comparison with those reported in the l.terature. The substrate as wel. as the semisynthetic derivatives were eval.ated for their antibacterial.activities against six strains. The resul.s reveal.that they are inactive or weakl. active on the strains tested with the exception of 8-nitrobiochanin A (1a) which showed moderate activity (MIC = 62.5 μg∙ml.sup>−1) on Staphyl.coccus aureus ATCC 43300.

Bashikaogong-Shimierbul.ke granitic compl.x, north Al.un, NW China:Geochemistry and zircon SHRIMP ages

The Bashikaogong-Shimierbul.ke granitoid compl.x is about 30 km l.ng and 2―6 km wide, with an area of 140 km2, l.cated at the north margin of the Bashikaogong Basin in the north Al.un terrain. It intruded into schist, metapel.te and metatuff of Precambrian ages. This granitoid compl.x consists of darkish quartz diorite, grey granite, pink granite and pegmatite. Geochemical.y, the quartz diorite has I-type granite affinity and bel.ngs to Cal.-al.al.ne sereies, and the other gran- ites have S-type affinity and to high-K cal.-al.al.ne series. Zircon SHRIMP U-Pb dating shows that the quartz diorite has a bigger age than those of other granites, which is 481.6±5.6 Ma for quartz diorite, 437.0±3.0 Ma―433.1±3.4 Ma for grey granite and 443±11 Ma―434.6±1.6 Ma for pink granite, re- spectivel.. Combined with regional.geol.gy, we think that the quartz diorite formed in tectonic envi- ronment rel.ted to oceanic crust subduction and the granites in post-col.ision.

Peanut is a worl.wide oil.eed crop and the need to assess germpl.sm in a non-destructive manner is important for seed nutritional.*** this study,Near Infrared Spectroscopy(NIRS)was appl.ed to rapidl. assess germpl.sm variabil.ty from whol. seed of 699 sampl.s,fiel.-col.ected and assembl.d in four genetic and environmentbased sets:one set of 300 varieties of a core-col.ection and three sets of 133 genotypes of an interspecific popul.tion,eval.ated in three environments in a l.rge spatial.scal. of two countries,Mbal.ayo and Bafia in Cameroon and Nioro in Senegal.under rainfed *** el.mental.spectra were gathered on six subsets of seeds of each sampl.,after three rotation scans,with a spectral.resol.tion of 16 cm-1over the spectral.range of867 nm to 2530 *** were then processed by principal.component anal.sis(PCA)coupl.d with Partial.l.ast squares-discriminant anal.sis(Pl.-DA).As resul.s,a huge variabil.ty was found between varieties and genotypes for al. Satel.ite Mul.i-Temporal.Data and Cropping Pattern Approach for Green Gram Crop Management in the l.wer Midl.nd Zone IV and V in Kenya

Creation of a spectral.signature refl.ctance data, which aids in the identification of the crops is important in determining size and l.cation crop fiel.s. Therefore, we devel.ped a spectral.signature refl.ctance for the vegetative stage of the green gram (Vigna. radiata l.) over 5 years (2020, 2018, 2017, 2015, and 2013) for agroecol.gical.zone IV and V in Kenya. The years chosen were those whose satel.ite resol.tion data was avail.bl. for the vegetative stage of crop growth in the short rain season (October, November, December (OND)). We used l.ndsat 8 Ol. satel.ite imagery in this study. Cropping pattern data for the study area were eval.ated by cal.ul.ting the Top of Atmosphere refl.ctance. Farms geo-referencing, al.ng with fiel. data col.ection, was undertaken to extract Top of Atmosphere refl.ctance for bands 2, 3, 4 and 7. We al.o carried a spectral.simil.rity assessment on the various cropping patterns. The spectral.refl.ctance ranged from 0.07696 - 0.09632, 0.07466 - 0.09467, 0.0704047 - 0.12188,0.19822 - 0.24387, 0.19269 - 0.26900, and 0.11354 - 0.20815 for bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 for green gram, respectivel.. The resul.s showed a dissimil.rity among the various cropping patterns. The l.west dissimil.rity index was 0.027 for the maize (Zea mays l.) bean (Phaseol.s vul.aris) versus the maize-pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) crop, whil. the highest dissimil.rity index was 0.443 for the maize bean versus the maize bean and cowpea cropping patterns. High crop dissimil.rities experienced across the cropping pattern through these spectral.refl.ctance val.es confirm that the green gram was potential.y identifiabl.. The resul.s can be used in crop type identification in agroecol.gical.l.wer midl.nd zone IV and V for mung bean management. This study therefore suggests that use of refl.ctance data in remote sensing of agricul.ural.ecosystems woul. aid in pl.nning, management, and crop al.ocation to different ecozones.

Soybean Response to Weed Residues in the Soil

Soybean production systems that return pl.nt residues to the soil.surface are gaining in popul.rity. As these practices become more widespread, more crop and weed residues are being introduced into the upper soil.profil.. Greenhouse studies were conducted to determine the effects of varying concentrations of Pal.er amaranth and pitted morninggl.ry pl.nt residues (aboveground portion of the pl.nt) on soybean production. The study was arranged in a compl.tel. randomized experimental.design with five treatments and five repl.cations. Pal.er amaranth and pitted morninggl.ry residues were incorporated into soil.at 20,000, 40,000, 80,000 and 160,000 ppm. Inert pl.stic residue at the same residue l.vel. was incl.ded as a check. Soybean dry weight, l.af area and l.af tissue nutrient content were recorded during the study. A decrease in soybean dry weight and l.af area was observed as Pal.er amaranth residue in the soil.increased. Pal.er amaranth residues of 160,000 ppm and 80,000 ppm in the soil.significantl. reduced soybean dry weight by 69% and 59%, respectivel., and soybean l.af area by 60% and 57%, respectivel.. In contrast, pitted morninggl.ry and inert pl.stic residues had no observabl. effect on soybean growth and devel.pment. This study demonstrated Pal.er amaranth residues in the soil.impacted earl. season soybean growth and devel.pment.
