BACKGROUND In the spring of 2020,residency programs across the country experienced rapid and drastic changes to their application process as a result of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** response,residency programs shifted to virtual events and began harnessing social media to communicate with *** To analyze the changes in social media usage by orthopaedic surgery programs in response to the COVID-19 *** Based on the 2019 residency and fellowship electronic database,accredited Us orthopaedic surgery programs were reviewed for social media presence on Instagram and *** 47000 tweets from 2011-2021 were extracted through the Twitter application programming *** extracted:Total number of followers,accounts following,tweets,likes,date of account creation,hashtags,and *** language processing was utilized for tweet sentiment analysis and classified as positive,neutral,or *** data was collected and deemed current as of August 11,*** account foundation date analysis was based on the date recognized as the start of the COVID-19 outbreak in the United states,before or after March 1,*** A total of 85(42.3%)orthopaedic surgery residency program Twitter handles were ***-five(41.2%)programs joined Twitter in the nine months after the 2020 covid *** 2020,there was a 126.6%increase in volume of tweets by orthopaedic surgery residency accounts as compared to *** median number of followers was 474.5(interquartile range 205.0-796.5).The account with the highest number of tweets was Hospital for special surgery(@Hspecialsurgery)with 13776 tweets followed by University of Virginia(@UVA_Ortho)with 5063 and Yale(@OrthoAtYale)with *** analysis before 2020 revealed 30.4%positive,60.8%neutral,and 8.8%negative sentiments across ***,the positive sentiment percentage increased in 2020 from 30.4%to 34.5%.Of the 201 ACGME-accredited ortho

Nonlinear and non-CP gates for Bloch vector amplification

Any state r=(x,y,z)of a qubit,written in the Pauli basis and initialized in the pure state r=(0,0,1),can be prepared by composing three quantum operations:two unitary rotation gates to reach a pure state r=(x^(2)+y^(2)+z^(2))-1/2×(x,y,z)on the Bloch sphere,followed by a depolarization gate to decrease|r|.Here we discuss the complementary state-preparation protocol for qubits initialized at the center of the Bloch ball,r=0,based on increasing or amplifying|r|to its desired value,then *** vector amplification increases purity and decreases *** can be achieved with a linear Markovian completely positive trace-preserving(CPTP)channel by placing the channel’s fixed point away from r=0,making it nonunital,but the resulting gate suffers from a critical slowing down as that fixed point is *** we consider alternative designs based on linear and nonlinear Markovian PTP channels,which offer benefits relative to linear CPTP channels,namely fast Bloch vector amplification without *** gates simulate a reversal of the thermodynamic arrow of time for the qubit and would provide striking experimental demonstrations of non-CP dynamics.

Minimally invasive surgery has become the standard of care for many operations,and laparoscopic liver resections have rapidly expanded over the past decade(1,2).In 2014,an international panel of liver surgeons determined that laparoscopic minor hepatectomy is either superior or equivalent to traditional open surgery for when performed by trained experts,depending on the outcomes examined(3).In fact,laparoscopic liver surgery has been found to be cost-effective compared to open surgery,owing to shorter length of stay,quicker recovery and less postoperative morbidity(4,5).Indications and use of laparoscopic liver surgery have expanded in recent years from minor resections to major resection and living donor liver transplant,with safe and acceptable outcomes(3).

Isolated lateral compartment osteoarthritis of the knee is a rare condition affecting approximately 1%of the population,which is ten times less common than osteoarthritis affecting only the medial *** knee arthroplasty(UKA)has many potential advantages over total knee *** benefits of UKA include a smaller incision,preservation of more native tissue(including cruciate ligaments and bone),decreased blood loss,and better overall *** UKA was first introduced in the 1970s,the outcomes of medial UKA(MUKA)were poor,but the few cases of lateral UKA(LUKA)showed *** that time,there has been a relative paucity of literature focused specifically on LUKA given it is a rare *** in patient selection criteria,implant design,and surgical technique have been made leading to increased popularity.A review of the recent literature reveals that LUKA is associated with excellent long-term clinical outcomes and implant survivorship when performed in properly selected *** design options include fixed vs mobile bearing as well as metal backed vs all polyethylene tibial component,with improved outcomes noted with fixed bearing *** reasons cited for revision(i.e.,fracture of the femoral component,fracture of the tibial component,and valgus malalignment)had been reported in past literature but not ***,while rare,the most common cause of failure and need for revision are osteoarthritis progression and aseptic *** the need for an occasional revision procedure,the survivorship of LUKA is comparable to MUKA,although it should be noted that outcomes of MUKA have been notably *** pursuit of improved techniques and implant designs will continue to show LUKA to be an excellent procedure for appropriately indicated patients.

Novel WDM-PON architecture for simultaneous transmission of unicast data and multicast services

We propose a novel wavelength-division multiplexed passive optical network （WDM-PON） to simultaneously transmit unicast data and multicast services with upstream data re-modulation in optical network units （ONUs）. For each wavelength channel in the optical line terminal （OLT）, the downstream unicast data are applied to one arm of a dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator （DPMZM） to generate baseband unicast non-return-to-zero （NRZ） signal. A radio frequency （RF） control signal is applied to the other arm to present two un-modulated sidebands for multicast data modulation in a differential phase-shift keying （DPsK） format. The flexible and dynamic multicast services are realized by simply switching the RF control signal on or off. The proposed scheme is experimentally demonstrated with 1.25-Gb/s downstream unicast, multicast, and upstream data.

In two recently published papers in Nature,^(1,2)Logan Walsh and colleagues utilized imaging mass cytometry(IMC)to create comprehensive single-cell spatial landscapes of the tumor immune microenvironment(TIME)in lung tumors from 416 lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD)patients,as well as brain tumors from 139 high-grade glioma and 46 brain metastasis(BrM)*** conducting a thorough analysis to characterize cellular spatial interactions and neighborhood patterns,and correlating these spatial features with clinical outcomes(Fig.1),the researchers gained novel insights into the complexities of tumoral ***,they identified two sets of clinically relevant predictive immune markers that could be used to assist in guiding clinical decisions.

Unexpected Breg-NK crosstalk in sTING agonist therapy

In a recent paper published in Nature,Li et *** that resistance to stimulator of interferon genes(sTING)monotherapy in solid tumors is attributable to the unexpected surge of IL-35-producing regulatory B(Breg)cells that impair NK-cell cytotoxicity[1].They depict sTING-induced Breg-NK-cell crosstalk and propose that combining the sTING agonist 2'3'cyclic GMP-AMP(cGAMP)with anti-IL-35 blockade is a promising strategy to overcome tumor immunosuppression,especially in pancreatic cancers[1].

Identifying and Measuring Multilevel Influences on College-Aged Athletes’ Multiple Health Behavior: A Pilot study

The current study gathered preliminary data relative to the influences on intercollegiate athletes’ multiple health behavior. A secondary objective was to inform future measurement of identified factors. A sample of 20 intercollegiate athletes participated in an open-ended survey, followed by a corresponding focus groups (≈90-minute). Qualitative data were gathered relative to the factors impacting athletes’ excessive alcohol intake, fruit and vegetable consumption (FVC), and maintenance of physical activity after college. In general, participating athletes reported influences within their social and physical environments (friends, bar accessibility, etc.) as the leading enablers of their excessive alcohol intake, while individual level influences were the most salient reasons not to drink excessively (responsibilities, health, etc.). Individual characteristics (taste preference, health, and expense) and the physical environment (availability and accessibility) were reported as the most salient levels of influence on athletes’ FVC. And when anticipating future maintenance of physical activity, athletes mostly reported individual level influences (outcome expectation, intrinsic motivation, etc.), with mention of family and friend influences. An in-depth comparison of current outcomes to similar research among young adult and athlete populations is provided, including validated measurement scales and future research suggestions. Current results provide an essential foundation for progressive research examinations among similar populations.

Clustering of Multiple Risk Behaviors among Ethnically Diverse Adolescents Living in Hawaii

The current study examined the prevalence and clustering of 5 health-risk behaviors among adolescents in Hawaii, including physical inactivity, low fruit and vegetable consumption, junk food consumption, excessive television time, and inadequate sleep. High school students were recruited from 5 classrooms in Oahu Hawaii. Data were collected in the spring semester of 2011. Proportions were used to describe the prevalence of single and multiple health risk behaviors. significant health behavior clusters were revealed using an observed-to-expected (O/E) ratio method. Participating adolescents (n = 114) were 11th and 12th grade students with a mean age of 16.28 (sD = 0.62). Participants were predominantly female (75%) and Filipino-American (68%). seventy-seven percent of adolescents were physically inactive, 90% watched excessive TV, 66% consumed inadequate fruits and vegetables, 94% reported inadequate levels of sleep, and 80% consumed excessive junk food. Overall, 94% reported at least 3 risk factors, 73% reported at least 4 risk factors, and 37% reported all 5 risk factors. No significant clusters were found. Conclusion: Health-risk behaviors cluster and occur more often than expected among adolescents living in Hawaii. Non-significant clustering may be due to insufficient variability within the sample data;future examinations of this highly understudied population are necessary.
