Land use and land cover change,perhaps the most significant anthropogenic disturbance to the environment,mainly due to rapid urbanization/industrialization and large scale agricultural *** this paper,an attempt has been made to appraise land use/land cover changes over a century(19142007)in the Neyyar River Basin(L56 km;Area483.4 km2)in southern Keralaa biodiversity hot spot in Peninsular *** this study,digital remote sensing data of the Indian Remote Sensing satellite series I-D(LISS III,20062007)on 1:50,000 scale,Survey of India(SOI)toposheet of 1914(1:63,360)and 1967(1:50,000)have been utilized to map various land use/land cover *** of different periods have been registered and resampled to similar geographic coordinates using ERDAS Imagine *** most notable changes include decreases in areas of paddy cultivation,mixed crops,scrub lands and evergreen forests,and increases in built-up areas,rubber plantations,dense mixed forests,and water ***,large scale exploitation of flood plain mud and river sand have reached menacing proportions leading to bank caving and cut offs at channel *** of land and water resources forms an important aspect of ecosystem management in the basin.

Algae are one of the major groups of soil microflora in agricultural lands. Among algae, the bluegreens are considered to be very valuable in agriculture. The role of them in soil fertility enhancement has been extensively studied worldwide. Sustainable utilization of an organism for any human purpose depends on how successfully the ecology of the same is thoroughly understood. Kuttanadu is a unique tropical paddy-wetland. Ecology of blue-green-algae and the exact diversity of the same in the zone remained unexplored. This is the first report of the blue-green-algal community of Kuttanadu in relation to different soil-regions, seasons, and crop-growth-stages. A rich blue-green-algal diversity of 64 species, with Oscillatoriales as the dominants (38%), is observed in these paddy-fields. The highest values for all the ecological parameters analyzed were found in the Lower Kuttanadu soil region, during Virippu season, at panicle stage of the crop whereas the lowest values for most of the parameters were observed in Upper Kuttanadu soils during puncha season at the seedling and panicle stages. The species richness and diversity index showed positive correlation to crop seasons. Apart from the specific soil and climatic factors, the total number of blue green algal isolates showed positive correlation to total nitrogen and phosphorus in the soils.

Rice is one of the staple crops in Burkina Faso. However, the local production covers only 47% of the population demands. One of the main reasons of the poor productivity in Burkina Faso is iron toxicity which is related mainly to the activity of Iron Reducing Bacteria in the rice field’s ecosystems. In order to control the harmful effects of Iron Reducing Bacterial populations and to improve rice productivity, a pots experiment was conducted at the experimental site of the University Ouaga I Pr. joseph KI-ZERBO. An iron toxic soil from Kou Valley (West of Burkina Faso) and two rice varieties, BOUAKE-189 and ROK-5, sensitive and tolerant to iron toxicity, respectively, were used for the experiment. The pots were drained for 14 days (D2) and amended with chemical fertilizers (NPK + Urea and NPK + Urea + Ca + Mg + Zn complexes). Control pots without drainage and fertilization (D0/NF) were prepared similarly. The kinetics of Iron Reducing Bacterial populations and ferrous iron content in soil near rice roots were monitored throughout the cultural cycle using MPN and colorimetric methods, respectively. The total iron content was evaluated in rice plant using a spectrometric method. Data obtained were analyzed in relation to drainage and fertilization mode, rice growth stage and rice yield using the Student’s t-test and XLSTAT 2014 statistical software. The experiment showed that the combined application of subsurface drainage and NPK + Urea + Ca + Mg + Zn fertilization, reduced significantly the number of IRB in the soil near rice roots for both rice varieties (p = 0.050 and p = 0.020) increased the leaf tissue tolerance to excess amounts of Fe, and rice yield.

本文选择了肯尼亚Mwea水稻种植区中Kangichiri、Kiuria和Rurumi3个村庄-农田交错地区为观察区,分析并比较了2种卫星数据对水稻种植区疟疾媒介分布的指示情况。首先运用2005年7月获取的Quickbird(分辨率0.6m)和Ikonos(分辨率4m)卫星数据在ErdasImagineV8.7中生成观察区的地面植被覆盖图;并于2005年的7月至2006的7月观察相应地区地面蚊虫消长情况。通过对观察区的卫星数据的最大似然法监测分类,并于分类后对每一田块与灌溉渠道都用Arc Info9.1进行栅格矢量化处理(每一栅格设置唯一的标识)。所有调查的蚊虫滋生点,依照水稻的生育期的不同分为6层进行分析。然后将经差分GPS定位的每一处水稻田及按蚊产卵点都叠加到该地区的卫星底层数据上,并对不同的水体、水稻生育期、调查地点的蚊虫滋生情况进行了方差分析。结果显示,由于Ikonos只有可见光和近红外光谱分辨能力,单一的Ikonos卫星数据难以区分不同样点和分层的生境,而QuickBird具有全光谱分辨能力,可区分所有的稻田生境。因此,可根据QuickBird0.6m卫星数据的土地利用和覆盖指数和阿拉伯按蚊滋生点幼虫的增殖特性,在当地建立和应用媒介综合防治系统(IVM-Integrated Vector Management)。
