Evaluation of the string test for the detection of Helicobacter pylori

AIM: Helicobacter pylori can be diagnosed by invasive ornon-invasive tests but to obtain bacteria for culture andantibiotic susceptibility testing, an upper GI endoscopy isoften required. The string test may be a minimally-invasivealternative method of obtaining H. pylori samples. This studyevaluates the sensitivity and specificity of the string test inthe diagnosis of H. pylori in comparison with endoscopicmeans of ***: This was a prospective open comparative studyof patients with dyspepsia with endoscopy-based tests asgold standard (defined as a positive CLO test and antralhistology). Fasting patients swallowed the encapsulated-string(Entero-test Hp), which was withdrawn after 1 hour. Thegastric juice from the string was plated onto H. pylori-selectivemedia for culture. Helicobacter pylori was identified by typicalcolony morphology, gram stain and biochemical test ***: Thirty dyspeptic patients were recruited of whom21 (70 %) were positive for H. pylori according to the goldstandard. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value,and negative predictive value for the string test were 38 %,100 %, 100 % and 41% respectively, and for endoscopicbiopsies 81%, 100 %, 100 %, 69 % respectively (P=0.004).Logistic regression showed that only abundant growthdensity from endoscopic biopsy cultures to be a predictor ofa positive string test (P=0.018).CONCLUSION: The string test is an alternative method toendoscopy in obtaining H. pylori but has a low sensitivitycompared to endoscopic biopsies.

Somie-Ntem area of the Tikar plain belongs to the western Cameroon *** lithology of the plain has been characterized,and the mineral potential is still unclear despite previous reports on Sn deposit within one of the magmatic *** results show two groups of granitic rocks displaying oxidized and reduced character;(1)mesocratic(oxidized)granites including biotitebearing,hornblende-biotite-bearing,hornblende-epidotebearing and pyroxene-bearing;(2)leucogranites(reduced)that are generally amphibole-pyroxene *** granitoids are hosted by gneisses and metasedimentary rocks partially covered by *** element composition shows high-k calc-alkaline to shoshonite affinity,metaluminous to weakly peraluminous I-type *** granites show moderately negative Eu anomaly,depleted in Nb,P,Ti,and are related to syn-collisional *** are post-orogenic with strong negative Eu anomaly,depleted in Ba and Sr and enriched in Hf,Nb and *** are fertile in Sn and Zn,enriched through postmagmatic metasomatism and ***–Cu–Ni–V mineralization occurs in hornblende-bearing gneisses and their enrichment suggests a possible Ni–Cutype PGEs mineralization in this ***,their trace element shows high Ni/Cu,very low Rb/Sr,low LILE and LREE which indicates mantle fractionation at *** absence of olivine and pyroxene,and increased SiO_(2)and Al_(2)O_(3)in the Cr–Cu–Ni–V-bearing rocks show that the parent magma experienced fractional crystallization and crustal contamination during ***,the high Zr/Rb and k/Rb ratios show that hydrothermal activity was not intense to enhance mineralization in the *** in the direction of stress during shear deformation inhibited an effective hydrothermal activity and ore deposition in the region.

Statistical Safety Analysis of Maintenance Management Process of Excavator Units

Within this paper, the process of statistical safety analysis has been presented, which involves the following steps： formulation of basic principles of statistical safety analysis, initial events analysis, accident sceneries progress analysis, risk calculation, and risk calculation results analysis. On this basis, it has been concluded that the bucket wheel excavator SRs 1200×24/4×0（400 kw）＋VR safety criteria is the mechanism for the hoist of rotor＇s arrow failure modes, because in that case whole bucket wheel excavator failure would necessarily happen （excavator falling down on counterweight）. Therefore, excavator units statistical safety analysis is accomplished preventively to obtain its effective maintenance management.

Comparative Study of Exhaust Emissions from Diesel and Syngas Powered 3.5 kw Compression Ignition Engine with and without Load

Despite diesel engines being highly efficient, with low fuel consumption and reduced carbon dioxide emissions, they emit relatively high levels of particulate matter and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) due to high exhaust gas temperatures. Engine emissions show the quality and completeness of combustion. This paper aims to present the results of a study comparing exhaust emissions from a diesel and syngas powered engine. Syngas was produced from co-firing coal and biomass in a gasifier then cleaned, cooled and applied as an alternative fuel in an engine operated from 0 - 100% load. Exhaust-emissions were monitored at this load conditions. The exhaust-temperature was measured using thermocouples and the emission gases were analyzed using Testo 350. The emissions were lower and decreased as the engine load increased, except for sulphur dioxide and NOx. The study shows that levels of carbon monoxide, were higher in a range of 46.5 - 80.2%, while carbon dioxide was 3.3 - 18% higher compared to those from diesel. Hydrocarbon emissions were 480 and 1250 ppm for diesel and syngas respectively. The study reveals that the engine operates optimally at higher loads since hydrocarbons and oxides of carbon are low due to complete combustion at higher temperatures. Exhaust gas temperature was higher in the syngas fuel and increased as the engine load increased in the range of 455.83 - 480.03˚C which influenced the formation of NOx. NOx from diesel was found to be higher, ranging from 32.5 - 40.5%, compared to those from syngas with an engine load of 75%. The study observed that relative to diesel, the emissions of sulfur dioxide at 50% engine load were lower in a range of 23.7 - 57.1%. Emissions of hydrocarbons depended on the degree of substitution of diesel and engine load. The study therefore shows that, relative to diesel, emissions decreased when syngas was used with upgraded syngas from Prosporis juliflora presenting as the best alternative followed by Hyphanae compressa, and last
