Background: The use of feed grade amino acids can reduce the cost of lactation feed. With changing genetics,increasing feed costs, and higher number of pigs weaned with heavier wean weights further evaluation of higher inclusion levels of feed-grade amino acid in lactation diets than previously published is warranted. Two experiments(Exp.) were conducted to determine the optimal inclusion level of L-lysine HCl to be included in swine lactation diets while digestible lysine levels remain constant across dietary treatments and allowing feed grade amino acids to be added to the diet to maintain dietary ratios relative to lysine to maximize litter growth rate and sow reproductive performance. Furthermore, the studies were to evaluate minimal amino acid ratios relative to lysine that allows for optimal litter growth rate and sow reproductive ***: Exp. 1: Increasing L-lysine HCl resulted in similar gilt feed intake, litter, and reproductive *** litter gain from birth to weaning was 2.51, 2.49, 2.59, 2.43, and 2.65 kg/d when gilts were fed 0.00, 0.075,0.150, 0.225, and 0.30% L-lysine HCl, respectively. Exp. 2: The average litter gain from birth to weaning was 2.68,2.73, 2.67, 2.70, and 2.64 kg/d(P < 0.70) when sows were fed 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.4% L-lysine HCl plus valine,respectively. No other differences among dietary treatments were ***: Collectively, these studies demonstrate corn-soybean meal based lactation diets formulated with a constant SID lysine content for all parities containing up to 0.40% L-lysine HCl with only supplemental feed grade threonine and a methionine source have no detrimental effect on litter growth rate and subsequent total born.

This research builds upon the authors’ previous work that introduced and modeled a novel Gallium-Arsenide, Emitterless, Back-surface Alternating Contact (GaAs-EBAC) thin-film solar cell to achieve >30% power conversion efficiency. Key design parameters are optimized under an Air-Mass (AM) 1.5 spectrum to improve performance and approach the 33.5% theoretical efficiency limit. A second optimization is performed under an AM0 spectrum to examine the cell’s potential for space applications. This research demonstrates the feasibility and potential of a new thin-film solar cell design for terrestrial and space applications. Results suggest that the straight-forward design may be an inexpensive alternative to multi-junction solar cells.

Prevalence and clinical risk factors for esophageal candidiasis in non-human immunodeficiency virus patients:A multicenter retrospective case-control study

China’s new chemical management regulation, MEE Order No. 12, requires a holistic health and environmental risk assessment on all new chemical substances in the Chinese market based on substance volume and hazard. A tiered data requirement on specific human health and environmental(fate and ecotoxicity) endpoints has been mandated for hazard identification in the guidance of the new chemical substance registration. Historically, the registration of a new chemical substance in China relies heavily on data generated from in vivo studies. Notably, according to the new guidance, in vitro data can now be used for skin irritation, eye irritation and skin sensitization endpoints, provided a clear conclusion can be drawn for hazard identification i.e. unambiguous UN GHS classification. While many in vitro methods have been used for chemical registration across the globe, their use in China is limited. Among others, one barrier is how data generated from an in vitro testing battery can be integrated and interpreted to address regulatory requirements. The defined approaches(DA), consisting of a fixed data interpretation procedure(DIP) used to interpret data generated with a defined set of information sources, can be practically applied to fulfill requirements under new chemical registration. The OECD guideline on DA for skin sensitisation(GL 497) published in 2021 provides the first example of using a set of in silico, in chemico and in vitro data to address hazard identification(sensitizer/non-sensitizer) and potency categories(Cat. 1A/1B). More recently, the OECD guideline on DA for serious eye damage and eye irritation(GL 467) describes approaches to identify eye irritation hazard, specifically for non-surfactant chemicals. The merit of GL 467 is its ability to predict the middle the middle category(GHS Cat. 2), thus providing a complete hazard identification for regulatory purpose(note that the subcategory of eye irritation Cat. 2 is optional under GHS).
