Ecological and hydrological impacts are expected when watersheds are under commercial *** this study we evaluated event-based hydrology and sedimentation in paired watersheds under commercial eucalyptus and grasslands ***,suspended sediment concentration,and sediment production were measured and simulated with the Limburg Soil Erosion Model(LISEM)in paired hydrographic watersheds located in southern Brazil;one occupied with 7-years old Eucalyptus saligna plantation(forest watershed-FW;0.83 km^(2))and another Pampa biome with native and exotic grasses used for beef cattle production(grassland watershed-GW;1.10 km^(2)).The effect of rainfall on hydrological and sedimentological variables was more evident in GW compared with *** shape of the hydrograph was steepest in GW,with rapid,marked increase and decrease in flow during *** parameters changed for model calibration in FW and GW were soil saturated hydraulic conductivity,initial soil moisture,and Manning roughness coefficient,whereby the statistical performance was classified as good(NSE>0.75).Fourteen events different from those used in the calibration process were validated for FW and GW,with NSE index classified as“good”and“very good”for *** study shows limitations of LISEM in calibrating and validating the sediment yield for individual events due to the spatial variability of factors controlling soil *** validated modeling results of this study may be applied in simulating soil and crop scenarios in watersheds cultivated with commercial forest and grassland for grazing.

Discogenic pain: Who cares?

Chronic low back pain has a huge impact on daily living and a negative economic and professional effect. It is a matter of debate and concern for all health professionals involved, particularly spine surgeons. Recent discoveries on the innervation and biochemical properties of the intervertebral disc clarify the role of this structure as a possible cause of chronic low back pain. However, multiple causes may be present in the same patient making the diagnosis a challenging process. Discogenic pain is defined as a chronic low back pain induced by a degenerative disc disease. There are no specific characteristics of discogenic pain, although it has a higher incidence in younger age, it is usually localized medially in the back, worsens with axial loading and improves with recumbence. In the last decades we have assisted the emergence of multiple treatment techniques. However, neither the conservative treatment nor the interventional management has strong evidence in treating discogenic pain. Randomized control clinical trials are sought to improve patient outcome. Meanwhile, we believe each patient should be approached on an individual base. Discogenic pain: we care.

In Vitro Propagation of Echeveria elegans, a Species of the Flora Endangered Mexican

The genus Echeveria has about 143 species that are unique to the Americas, 117 of which are presented in the Mexican Republic, mainly in the states of Hidalgo, Puebla and Oaxaca. Propagation can be done by cuttings, leaf cuttings or seeds, but these methods are insufficient to avoid the predation of many species. NOM-059-ECOL-2001 shows Echeveria elegans as species reported endangered. The objectives in this study were achieved in vitro propagation from axillary buds, as an alternative to multiplication and preservation species. We evaluated different concentrations and combinations of two growth regulators, 6-BAP （2.22, 4.44, 6.66 and 8.88 μM） and u-NAA （1.35 and 2.70 μM） on shoot formation from axillary buds and two culture media with different concentrations of MS salts, to achieve root plants grown in vitro. It was found by combining 6.66 μM of 6-BAP and 1.35μM of α-NAA favored the formation and development of new shoots. In the rooting stage, the best results are achieved with the treatment containing 50% of MS salts. Then the plants were transplanted into greenhouses and achieved a successful acclimatization. During this last phase of development, there were no phenotypic changes or presence of somaclonal variants.

Efficacy and Tolerability of Thermocoagulation Treatment of High-Grade Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia

Purpose: Cervical cancer is still one of the main causes of cancer and mortality in women, especially in low- and middle-income countries, although it is a completely preventable disease through the detection and treatment of pre-cancer lesions. We evaluated the efficacy and tolerability of thermocoagulation treatment of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN 2 and 3). Methods: We evaluated 115 women with high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, 54 with CIN 2 and 61 with CIN 3, confirmed by biopsy and without previous treatment, from January 2016 to December 2018, undergoing thermocoagulation treatment at the Lower Genital Tract Pathology and Colposcopy Service of the Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre, Porto Alegre, Brazil. Results: The mean age was 33.11 years (SD = 9.83) for CIN 2 and 35.28 years (SD = 7.97) for CIN 3 patients. Treatment efficacy was 90.8% in CIN 2 and 94.9% in CIN 3 cases. Pain was the main symptom reported at the time of treatment, occurring more frequently in the CIN 3 group (49.1% versus 27.8% in the CIN 2 group). As the more important long-term complication, there were 3 cases of pelvic inflammatory disease in CIN 2 (5.6%) and 3 in CIN 3 group (5.0%). Can Peripheral Venous Gases Replace Arterial Gases in a Patient with Chronic Kidney Disease?

Introduction: Metabolic acidosis (MA) is a frequent alteration in chronic kidney disease (CKD) that is associated with numerous complications, which is why its correction is recommended. Oral sodium bicarbonate is currently the treatment of choice. Objective: The objective is to determine if venous bicarbonate is equal to arterial bicarbonate in the follow-up of a patient with chronic kidney disease. Materials Methods: Single-center Cross-sectional studies in a cohort of adult patients with stage 4 - 5 CKD. Samples were taken between January 2022 and January 2023, in a Clinic in the city of Ibague/ Colombia obtained from the radial artery. The inclusion criteria were: not being treated with alkaline at the time of inclusion. Results: A total of 71 patients were included, 73.2% male (52) and 26.8% female (19), with different stages: stage 3 with 5.6% (4), stage 4 with 60.6% (43), stage 5 with 33.8% (23). 66.2% were diabetic, 88.7% had arterial hypertension, and 15.5% of the patients presented hematoma as a complication and pain associated with arterial puncture. The result of mean venous bicarbonate was 18.8 with a standard deviation of 2.3, arterial bicarbonate a mean of 19.4 with a standard deviation of 2.1 with a value of P 0.46, venous pH with a mean of 7.37 with a standard deviation of 0.48 and a mean arterial pH of 7.38 with a standard deviation of 0.48 with a P value of 0.01. Values of venous bicarbonate compared to arterial bicarbonate showed no statistically significant difference in patients with chronic kidney disease, but there were more complications such as hematoma and pain in patients in the arterial puncture cohort, because of this result venous bicarbonate corresponds to arterial bicarbonate, but has less risk of complications associated with the procedure. Conclusion: Metabolic acidosis is a frequent alteration in advanced chronic kidney disease, these results showed that the values of arterial and venous bicarbonate have no statistically significa
