BRCA1 and RAP80 are involved in chemotherapy response,and PIAS1 and PIAS4 are necessary for adequate DNA damage *** have examined the mRNA expression of BRCA1,RAP80,PIAS1 and PIAS4 by RT-QPCR in 133 advanced gastric cancer patients,59 of whom received docetaxel-based second-line *** survival time was 12.5 months *** the 59 patients receiving second-line docetaxel,median survival time was 25.8 months for patients with high BRCA1 levels vs 23.8 months for those with intermediate levels and 9.5 months for those with low levels (P=0.006).Hazard ratios for death were 2.49(P=0.04) for low BRCA1 levels and 2.84(P=0.02) for low PIAS4 levels. Customized chemotherapy based on the levels of BRCA1 and PIAS4 could help to optimize treatment.

Introduction: Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (CCTGA) is a rare heart disease that encompasses an atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial discordance and accounts for less than 1 percent of congenital heart diseases. Objective: To present an atypical case of a man with complex congenital heart disease and conduction anomalies. Case Presentation: This is a case of a 34-year-old patient who came to the hospital with 1 week of dyspnea on exertion and episodes of lipothymia. The patient was referred to our hospital after an electrocardiogram from his primary care with evidence of blocked atrial fibrillation. During the initial evaluation blocked atrial fibrillation was confirmed with a rescue ventricular rate of 38 bpm. A magnetic resonance confirmed the presence of the atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial discordance, the aorta had a left anterior position, perimembranous ventricular septal defect with a right to left shunt, biventricular systolic dysfunction, moderate tricuspid, and mitral regurgitation, interventricular septal intramyocardial and biatrial fibrosis, left atrial dilation, and dilation of the pulmonary artery. After pacemaker placement, the patient has an improvement in his clinical symptoms and quality of life. Conclusions: Cardiac arrhythmias are CCTGA’s leading cause of death, mostly ventricular tachycardia, and atrial fibrillation. Objective： Analysis of abstinence rates of smokers per gender at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months in a Smoking Cessation Unit from January 2008 to December 2009. Methods： Descriptive retrospective study. Analysis of socio-demographic variables, smoking patterns, associated comorbidities, continuous abstinence rates, success, relapses, failure and dropping out. Results： 278 smokers started treatment （33%）; 55.4% males and 44.6% females （mean age of 48.3 and 44.06 years, respectively）. The main associated comorbidities were： psychiatric （38.7%）, cardiovascular （dyslipemia 25%） and respiratory （COPD （chronic obstructive pulmonary disease） 9.7%） in females; cardiovascular （dyslipemia 34.4%）, psychiatric （34.4%） and respiratory （COPD 19.5%） in males. VRN （Varenicline） was prescribed in 40.2% males and 32.2% females; NRT （nicotine replacement therapy） was used in 46.6% and 38.7%, respectively; bupropion was employed in 6.5% and 21.8%, respectively. Psychological counseling was offered only to 7.8% males and 8.1% females. The continuous abstinence rates in males at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months were 51.3%, 37.7%, 32.5% and 30.5%, respectively, and were 45.2%, 29.8%, 25.0% and 24.2% for females. Failure was 9.7% for females and 18.8% for males. Success was more frequent for those on VRN （n = 41 males; n = 12 females）. No relapses were indicated for 42 females and 71 males. The percentage of relapses was higher at 3 months （29.0% females, 19.5% males）. Conclusions： The study observed differences in treating abstinence between genders （in the abstinence rates and failure index）. This implies having to consider incorporating the gender variable into the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of smoking.

An Autonomous Navigation Methodology for a Pioneer 3DX Robot

Autonomous navigation is a complex challenge that involves the interpretation and analysis of information about the scenario to facilitate the cognitive processes of a robot to perform free trajectories in dynamic environments. To solve this, the paper introduces a Case-Based Reasoning methodology to endow robots with an efficient decision structure aiming of selecting the best maneuver to avoid collisions. In particular, Manhattan Distance was implemented to perform the retrieval process in CBR method. Four scenarios were depicted to run a set of experiments in order to validate the functionality of the implemented work. Finally, conclusions emphasize the advantages of CBR methodology to perform autonomous navigation in unknown and uncertain environments.

Low prevalence of germline hMSH6 mutations in colorectal cancer families from Spain

AIM: To investigate the prevalence and penetrance of hMSH6 mutations in Spanish HNPCC families that was negative for mutation in hMLH1 or ***: We used PCR-based DGGE assay and direct Sequencing to screen for hMSH6 gene in 91 HNPCC ***: we have identified 10 families with germ-line mutations in the DNA sequence. These mutations included two intronic variation, three missense mutation, one nonsense mutation, and four silent mutations. Among the 10 germ-line mutations identified in the Spanish cohort,8 were novel, perhaps, suggesting different mutational spectra in the Spanish population. Detailed pedigrees were constructed for the three families with a possible pathogenic hMSH6 mutation. The two silent mutations H388H and L758L, detected in a person affected of colorectal cancer at age 29, produce loss of the wild-type allele in the tumor sample. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that expression of MSH6 protein was lost only in the tumors from the carriers of V878A and Q263X ***: Altogether, our results indicate that disease-causing germ-line mutations of hMSH6 are very less frequent in Spanish HNPCC families.

We analyzed the allelic and genotypic frequencies of the glutathione-S-transferase P1 （GSTPI） rs1695 single nucleotide polymorphism （SNP） in 290 patients with multiple sclerosis （MS） and in 310 healthy controls. We found no significant association between the rs1695 variant and MS. Among MS patients, there was no relationship between the rs1695 variant and either gender, clinical type of MS or the age of onset of MS.
