The Internet of Moving Things(IoMT)takes a step further with respect to traditional static IoT deployments.In this line,the integration of new eco-friendly mobility devices such as scooters or bicycles within the Cooperative-Intelligent Transportation Systems(C-ITS)and smart city ecosystems is crucial to provide novel services.To this end,a range of communication technologies is available,such as cellular,vehicular WiFi or Low-Power Wide-Area Network(LPWAN);however,none of them can fully cover energy consumption and Quality of Service(QoS)requirements.Thus,we propose a Decision Support System(DSS),based on supervised Machine Learning(ML)classification,for selecting the most adequate transmission interface to send a certain message in a multi-Radio Access Technology(RAT)set up.Different ML algorithms have been explored taking into account computing and energy constraints of IoMT enddevices and traffic type.Besides,a real implementation of a decision tree-based DSS for micro-controller units is presented and evaluated.The attained results demonstrate the validity of the proposal,saving energy in communication tasks as well as satisfying QoS requirements of certain urgent messages.The footprint of the real implementation on an Arduino Uno is 444 bytes and it can be executed in around 50µs.

The study of the recent colonization of a symbiont and its interaction with host communities in new locations is an opportunity to understand how they interact.The use of isotopic ratios in trophic ecology can provide measurements of a species'isotopic niche,as well as knowledge about how the isotopic niches between symbiont and host species overlap.Stable isotope measurements were used to assess the sources of carbon assimilated by the host species(the bivalves Mytilus galloprovincialis and Scrobicularia plana)and their associated symbiont pea crab Afropinnotheres monodi,which occurs within these bivalves'mantle cavities.The mixing model estimates suggest that all of them assimilate carbon from similar sources,particularly from pseudofaeces and particulate organic matter in this symbiotic system based on filter feeding.The symbiotic species occupy comparable trophic levels and its association seems to be commensal or parasitic depending on the duration of such association.The pea crab A.monodi reflects a sex-specific diet,where males are more generalist than the soft females because the latter's habitat is restricted to the host bivalve.The high isotopic overlap between soft females and M.galloprovincialis may reflect a good commensal relationship with the host.

Environmental monitoring of small,rural watersheds was one of the components of the Natural Re-sources Management and Rural Poverty Alleviation Program(RS-Rural)in southern Brazil.The purpose of the monitoring was to assess the impact of promoting soil conservation and environment manage-ment practices adopted by farmers and funded by the Program.In four small monitored watersheds,in a total of 95 plots representing distinct land use and soil management,surface soil was collected to characterize ground-zero of the Program by determining several soil physical,chemical and microbio-logical properties.Principal component analysis(PCA)shows soil physical,chemical and biological properties were decisive in defining the agricultural soils in the rural watersheds with family farming.The sensitivity to chemical properties provides an opportunity to improve soil quality if soil management focuses on altering those properties.Soil management practiced by tobacco farmers leads to rapid,intense degradation of some natural soil properties,especially those related to the dynamics of soil organic matter,compared with more conservationist uses(forest,regrowth,and grassland).Thus,soil management must be reoriented to avoid the progress of degradation and recover soil physical and biological quality.Cover crops and by land-abandonment to allow natural vegetation are important management strategies for the degraded soils used for tobacco production,increasing soil organic matter,nutrients and microbial activity and thus allowing further crop production.In conclusion,wa-tersheds with tobacco cropping have soils with lower quality than when under no-tillage grain pro-duction,requiring changes in land use and soil management.

BACKGROUND Infection at the pin tract is a frequent and feared complication of external fixators(EF).The type of pin material and coatings have been regarded as possibly influencing infection rates.Over the last 20 years,few prospective clinical studies and systematic reviews addressed the role of coated pins on the rate of pin site infection in human clinical studies.AIM To assess the EF literature over the past 20 years on the clinical benefits of pins manufactured from varied materials and coating systems and their possible role in pin tract infection rates.METHODS We performed a systematic review according to the PRISMA and PICOS guidelines using four scientific platforms:PubMed,LiLacs,SciELO,and Cochrane.We searched the literature for related publications over the past 20 years.RESULTS A literature search yielded 29 articles,among which seven met the inclusion criteria.These studies compared stainless-steel pins and pins coated with hydroxyapatite(HA),titanium and silver.The pin tract infection definitions were arbitrary and not standardized among studies.Most studies included a low number of patients in the analysis and used a short follow-up time.Three metaanalyses were carried out,comparing stainless steel vs silver pins,stainless steel vs HA-coated pins,and titanium vs HA-coated pins.None of this analysis resulted in statistically significant differences in pin tract infection rates.CONCLUSION Currently,no clinical evidence supports the advantage of EF pins manufactured with materials other than stainless steel or coated over uncoated pins in reducing the rates of pin tract infections.A standardized definition of pin tract infection in external fixation is still lacking.

The aim of this study was to evaluate injectable,in situ cross-linkable elastin-like recombinamers(ELRs)for osteochondral repair.Both the ELR-based hydrogel alone and the ELR-based hydrogel embedded with rabbit mesenchymal stromal cells(rMSCs)were tested for the regeneration of critical subchondral defects in 10 New Zealand rabbits.Thus,cylindrical osteochondral defects were filled with an aqueous solution of ELRs and the animals sacrificed at 4months for histological and gross evaluation of features of biomaterial performance,including integration,cellular infiltration,surrounding matrix quality and the new matrix in the defects.Although both approaches helped cartilage regeneration,the results suggest that the specific composition of the rMSC-containing hydrogel permitted adequate bone regeneration,whereas the ELR-based hydrogel alone led to an excellent regeneration of hyaline cartilage.In conclusion,the ELR cross-linker solution can be easily delivered and forms a stable well-integrated hydrogel that supports infiltration and de novo matrix synthesis.

In rural territories, the communities use energy sources based on fossil fuels to supply themselves with electricity, which may address two main problems: greenhouse gas emissions and high fuel prices. Hence, there is an opportunity to include renewable resources in the energy mix. This paper develops an optimization model to determine the optimal sizing, the total annual investment cost in renewable generation, and other operating costs of the components of a hybrid microgrid. By running a k-means clustering algorithm on a meteorological dataset of the community under study, the hourly representative values become input parameters in the proposed optimization model. The method for the optimal design of hybrid microgrid is analyzed in six operating scenarios considering: (1) 24-hour continuous power supply; (2) load shedding percentage; (3) disel power generator (genset) curtailment; (4) the worst meteorological conditions; (5) the use of renewable energy sources including battery energy storage systems (BESSs); and (6) the use of genset. A mathematical programming language (AMPL) tool is used to find solutions of the proposed optimization model. Results show that the total costs of microgrid in the scenarios that cover 100% of the load demand (without considering the scenario with 100% renewables) increase by over 16% compared with the scenario with genset operation limitation. For the designs with power supply restrictions, the total cost of microgrid in the scenario with load shedding is reduced by over 27% compared with that without load shedding.

Clustered organization of biosynthetic non-homologous genes is emerging as a characteristic feature of plant genomes.The co-regulation of clustered genes seems to largely depend on epigenetic reprogram-ming and three-dimensional chromatin conformation.In this study,we identified the long non-coding RNA(lncRNA)MARneral Silencing(MARS),localized inside the Arabidopsis marneral cluster,which con-trols the local epigenetic activation of its surrounding region in response to abscisic acid(ABA).MARS modulates the POLYCOMB REPRESSIVE COMPLEX 1(PRC1)component LIKE HETEROCHROMATIN PROTEIN 1(LHP1)binding throughout the cluster in a dose-dependent manner,determining H3K27me3 deposition and chromatin condensation.In response to ABA,MARS decoys LHP1 away from the cluster and promotes the formation of a chromatin loop bringing together the MARNERAL SYNTHASE 1(MRN1)locus and a distal ABA-responsive enhancer.The enrichment of co-regulated lncRNAs in clustered meta-bolic genes in Arabidopsis suggests that the acquisition of novel non-coding transcriptional units may constitute an additional regulatory layer driving the evolution of biosynthetic pathways.

Transcriptional regulation,determined by the chromatin structure and regulatory elements interacting at pro-moter regions,is a key step in plant responses to environmental cues.Nitrate(NO3-)is a nutrient signal that regulates the expression of hundreds of genes in Arabidopsis thaliana.Here,we integrate mRNA sequencing,genome-wide RNA polymeraseⅡ(RNPⅡ),chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing,and DNase Sequencing datasets to establish the relationship between RNPⅡoccupancy and chromatin accessibility in response to NO3-treatments in Arabidopsis roots.Genomic footprinting allowed us to identify in vivo regula-tory elements controlling gene expression in response to NO3-treatments.NO3--modulated transcription factor(TF)footprints are important for a rapid increase in RNPⅡoccupancy and transcript accumulation over time.We mapped key TF regulatory interactions and functionally validated the role of NAP,an NAC-domain containing TF,as a new regulatory factor in NO3-transport.Taken together,our study provides a comprehensive view of transcriptional networks in response to a nutrient signal in Arabidopsis roots.

The last twenty million years(Maastrichtian–Santonian)of Southern Hemisphere plesiosaur history is especially well recorded in the Weddellian Province(Patagonia;Western Antarctica and New Zealand).The oldest Late Cretaceous plesiosaurs,two specimens referred to Polycotylidae indet.,come from the Santonian levels of the santa Marta Formation,while the oldest elasmosaurids come from the lower Campanian of the same formation.In the lower Maastrichtian of the Snow Hill Island Formation the non-aristonectine elasmosaurid Vegasaurus molyi is recorded together with other non-diagnosable elasmosaurid specimens,but no aristonectines are present.Aristonectines appears in the Antarctic record in the upper Maastrichtian of the López de Bertodano Formation and are represented by Morturneria and cf.Aristonectes.The specimens from the upper Campanian previously referred to Aristonectinae indet.are referred to Elasmosauridae indet.,shortening the temporal record of Aristonectinae in Antarctica.Therefore aristonectines appears in the Antarctic record in the upper Maastrichtian of the López de Bertodano Formation and are represented by Morturneria and cf.Aristonectes.The Antarctic Cretaceous elasmosaurids show a paleobiogeographic connection with South America and New Zealand(Weddellian Province).This connection is indicated by the shared presence of the Aristonectinae Kaiwhekea katiki(New Zealand)and Aristonectes(Argentina and Chile).Recent phylogenetic analysis recovered the aristonectines within the Weddellonectia clade,which includes the aristonectines and the non-aristonectines Vegasaurus molyi(Isla Vega,Antarctica);Kawanectes lafquenianum(Argentina);Morenosaurus stocki and Aphrosaurus furlongi(California).Among the Weddellonectia,the aristonectines show a relatively large body size and extremely derived features and probably occupied a trophic niche that differed from the trophic niche of other elasmosaurids.By way of contrast Kawanectes lafquenianum is an extremely small body-sized elasmosaurid restricted to marginal marine
