Cryptomelane has been widely applied as catalyst in oxidation reactions due to its excellent redox properties and low ***,a novel one-pot hydrothermal synthesis using a potassium permanganate aqueous solution as precursor and ethanol as reducing agent has successfully been developed to obtain cryptomelane *** synthetic route makes it possible to control the amount of potassium incorporated into the structure of the cryptomelane by selecting the appropriate synthesis temperature and ethanol initial *** advantage of this approach,the effect of potassium concentration on the structural stability and reducibility of the cryptomelane,which are poorly discussed in the literature,has been *** have observed that samples with low content of potassium(~11%)show high conversions of CO to CO2 especially at low *** lower activity of the samples with high K contents(~16%)can be ascribed to the beneficial effect of K on the structural stability of cryptomelane in detriment of labile oxygen on cryptomelane surface.

Effects of antibiotics on hydrogen production and gut symbionts in the Formosan subterranean termite Coptotermes formosanus （Isoptera： Rhinotermitidae）

Symbiotic microorganisms that inhabit the gut of Coptotermes formosanus enable this termite to degrade lignocelluloses and further produce hydrogen as an important intermediate to be recycled in its hindgut or as a byproduct to be emitted to the atmosphere. Both symbiotic protists and prokaryotes in the guts of termites demonstrated some different roles with respect to hydrogen production. In this study, the effects of two antibiotics, ampicillin and tetracycline, on hydrogen emission and the gut symbionts of C. formosanus were investigated. Hydrogen emission from termite guts was significantly enhanced when termites fed on wood diets treated with either ampicillin or tetracycline. The greatest H2 emission rates, 2 519 4- 74 and 2 080 ＋ 377 nmol/h/g body weight, were recorded with the treatments of ampicillin and tetracycline, respectively, which showed 6-7 times more H2 production than that of controls. Antibiotic-treated diets negatively affected the prokaryotic communities and reduced their abundances, particularly on those ectosymbionts inhabiting the gut walls or in the gut fluid of C. formosanus, such as spirochetes. However, no signif- icant reductions in the cotmts of gut cellulolytic protists, Pseudotrichonympha grassii and Holomastigotoids hartmanni, were recorded; and with a further observation by confocal laser scanning microscopy, the endosymbionts inhabiting P. grassii generally survived the antibiotic treatments. These results suggest that some prokaryotes may serve as the main hydrogen consumers, while P. grassii, together with its endosymbionts, may function as the main contributors for hydrogen production in the hindgut of C. formosanus.

Objective:To examine the effect of anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)reconstruction on spinal-reflex and corticospinal excitability of the quadriceps ***:A comprehensive electronic database search was performed to identify studies that objectively measured Hoffmann reflex to muscle response ratio,motor threshold,and motor evoked potentials after ACL *** standardized mean differences(SmDs)were computed using a random effects meta-analysis ***:A total of 13 studies were eligible for *** Hoffmann reflex to muscle response ratio was significantly higher on both the reconstructed and non-reconstructed legs when compared with the healthy control leg(SmD=0.28,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.08-0.49,p=0.006 and SmD=0.22,95%CI:0.04-0.40,p=0.016,respectively)but did not differ between legs(SmD=0.10,95%CI:-0.01 to 0.21,p=0.078).The motor threshold was significantly higher on both the reconstructed(SmD=0.76,95%CI:0.40-1.12,pmD=0.47,95%CI:0.00-0.95,p=0.049)when compared with the legs of healthy *** reconstructed leg also had a higher motor threshold when compared with the non-reconstructed leg(SmD=0.20,95%CI:0.06-0.34,p=0.005).These changes were paralleled by bilateral reductions in quadriceps strength(ACL reconstructed:SmD=-0.78,95%CI:-1.07 to-0.49,pmD=-0.32,95%CI:-0.63 to-0.01,p=0.042)and quadriceps voluntary activation(ACL reconstructed:SmD=-0.73,95%CI:-0.97 to-0.50,pmD=-0.55,95%CI:-0.82 to-0.27,pmpared with healthy ***:There is increased excitability of the spinal-reflex pathways and reduced excitability of the corticospinal pathways following ACL *** changes are paralleled by reductions in quadriceps strength and voluntary activation,suggesting that rehabilitation interventions should focus on normalizing the excitability of neural pathways to effectively address quadriceps dysfunction aft

The main aim of this paper is to study whether the Gromov hyperbolicity is preserved under some transformations on Riemann surfaces （with their Poincare metrics）. We prove that quasiconformal maps between Riemann surfaces preserve hyperbolicity; however, we also show that arbitrary twists along simple closed geodesics do not preserve it, in general.

Background:Accurate quantification of voluntary activation is important for understanding the extent of quadriceps dysfunction in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction(ACLR).Voluntary activation has been quantified using both percent activation derived from the interpolated twitch technique and central activation ratio(CAR)derived from the burst superimposition technique,as well as by using different types of electrical stimulators and pulse train ***,it is unclear how these parameters affect voluntary activation estimates in individuals with *** study was performed to fill this important knowledge gap in the anterior cruciate ligament ***:Quadriceps strength and voluntary activation were examined in 18 ACLR participants(12 quadriceps/patellartendon graft,6 hamstring tendon graft;time since ACLR:1.06±0.82 years,mean±SD)at 90°of knee flexion using 2 stimulators(Digitimer and Grass)and pulse train conditions(3-pulse and 10-pulse).Voluntary activation was quantified by calculating both CAR and percent ***:Results indicated that voluntary activation was significantly overestimated by CAR when compared with percent activation(pmates were not affected by pulse train conditions when using percent activation;however,3-pulse stimuli resulted in greater overestimation than 10-pulse stimuli when using CAR(p=0.003).Voluntary activation did not differ between stimulators(p>0.05);however,the Digitimer evoked greater torque at rest than the Grass(pm the interpolated twitch technique provides superior estimates of voluntary activation than CAR derived from burst superimposition and is less affected by pulse train conditions or stimulators in individuals with ACLR.

In this work, we obtain good upper bounds for the diameter of any graph in terms of its minimum degree and its order, improving a classical theorem due to Erdos, Pach, Pollack and Tuza. We use these bounds in order to study hyperbolic graphs （in the Gromov sense）. To compute the hyperbolicity constant is an almost intractable problem, thus it is natural to try to bound it in terms of some parameters of the graph. Let H（n, δ0） be the set of graphs G with n vertices and minimum degree 50, and J（n, Δ） be the set of graphs G with n vertices and maximum degree A. We study the four following extremal problems on graphs： a（n,δ0） = min{δ（G）｜ G ∈H（n, δ0）}, b（n, δ0） =- max{δ（G）｜ e ∈H（n, δ0）}, α（n, Δ） = min{δ（G） [ G ∈ J（n, Δ）} and β（n,Δ） = max{δ（G） ] G∈Π（n,Δ）}. In particular, we obtain bounds for b（n, δ0） and we compute the precise value of a（n, δ0）, α（n, Δ） and w（n, Δ） for all values of n, r0 and A, respectively.

Predicting the properties of two-dimensional （2D） materials as graphene and hexagonal boron nitride （h-BN） monolayers after their growth on any given substrate is a major challenge. While the influence of the electron configuration of the atoms of the underlying surface is well-understood, the effect of substrate geometry still remains unclear. The structural properties of h-BN monolayers grown on a rectangularly packed Rh（110） surface were characterized in situ by ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy and were compared to those that this material exhibits when grown on substrates showing different crystallographic orientations. Although the h-BN monolayer grown on Rh（110） was dominated by a unique quasiunidimensional moir6 pattern, suggesting considerable interface interaction, the moir6 corrugation was unexpectedly smaller than those reported for strongly interacting interfaces with hexagonal-terminated substrates, owing to differences in the possible binding landscapes at interfaces with differently oriented substrates. moreover, a rule was derived for predicting how interface corrugation and the existence and extent of subregions within moir6 supercells containing favorable sites for orbital mixing between h-BN monolayers and their supports depend on substrate symmetry. These general symmetry considerations can be applied to numerous 2D materials, including graphene, thereby enabling the prediction of how substrate choice determines the properties of these materials. Furthermore, they could also provide new routes for tuning 2D material properties and for developing nanotemplates showing different geometries for Krowing adsorbate superlattices.

HSLA steels constitute one of the main types of steels produced worldwide by Thin Slab Direct Rolling technologies (TSDR).Among microalloying elements,the most widely used are V,Nb and *** elements play different roles during the austenite evolution in *** austenite conditioning before transformation,the limitations in the total reduction that can be applied in TSDR technologies need to be considered when composition/process parameters are *** this context,whereas an important number of studies have been focused on Nb microalloyed grades,a less systematic analysis has been performed concerning the role of vanadium on austenite *** paper analyzes these singularities taking into account different process parameter conditions,such as total reduction and initial rolling temperature.
